Proverbs 17
1 Better is a dry morsel and quietness therewith, than a house full of feasting with strife.
౧ఎంత రుచికరమైన భోజనం ఉన్నా కలహాలతో ఉన్న ఇంట్లో ఉండడం కంటే ప్రశాంతంగా వట్టి రొట్టెముక్క తినడం మంచిది.
2 A servant that dealeth wisely shall have rule over a son that dealeth shamefully, and shall have part of the inheritance among the brethren.
౨బుద్ధిమంతుడైన సేవకుడు సిగ్గు కలిగించే కొడుకు మీద అధికారం సంపాదించుకుంటాడు. అన్నదమ్ములతో పాటు వాడు పిత్రార్జితం పంచు కుంటాడు.
3 The refining pot is for silver, and the furnace for gold; but the LORD trieth the hearts.
౩వెండికి మూస, బంగారానికి కొలిమి కావాలి. హృదయాలను శుద్ధి చేసేది యెహోవాయే.
4 A evil-doer giveth heed to wicked lips; and a liar giveth ear to a mischievous tongue.
౪చెడు నడవడిక గలవాడు చెప్పుడు మాటలు వింటాడు. హానికరమైన మాటలు పలుకుతుంటే అబద్ధికుడు శ్రద్ధగా వింటాడు.
5 Whoso mocketh the poor blasphemeth his Maker; and he that is glad at calamity shall not be unpunished.
౫పేదలను వెక్కిరించేవాడు వారి సృష్టికర్తను నిందిస్తున్నాడు. ఆపద కలగడం చూసి సంతోషించేవాడికి శిక్ష తప్పదు.
6 Children's children are the crown of old men; and the glory of children are their fathers.
౬మనవలు ముసలివారికి కిరీటాలు. తమ పిల్లలకు ప్రతిష్ట తెచ్చేది తల్లి దండ్రులే.
7 Overbearing speech becometh not a churl; much less do lying lips a prince.
౭అతి వాగుడు బుద్ధిలేనివాడికి తగదు. అంతకన్నా ముఖ్యంగా అబద్ధమాడడం అధిపతికి పనికిరాదు.
8 A gift is as a precious stone in the eyes of him that hath it; whithersoever he turneth, he prospereth.
౮లంచం ఇచ్చేవాడికి అదొక మహిమగల మణి లాగా ఉంటుంది. అలాంటివాడు చేసేవన్నీ నెరవేరుతున్నట్టు ఉంటుంది.
9 He that covereth a transgression seeketh love; but he that harpeth on a matter estrangeth a familiar friend.
౯ప్రేమను కోరేవాడు జరిగిన తప్పును గుట్టుగా ఉంచుతాడు. జరిగిన సంగతి మాటిమాటికీ ఎత్తేవాడు దగ్గర స్నేహితులను కూడా పాడు చేసుకుంటాడు.
10 A rebuke entereth deeper into a man of understanding than a hundred stripes into a fool.
౧౦బుద్ధిహీనుడికి నూరుదెబ్బల కంటే బుద్ధిమంతుడికి ఒక గద్దింపు మాట మరింత లోతుగా నాటుతుంది.
11 A rebellious man seeketh only evil; therefore a cruel messenger shall be sent against him.
౧౧దుర్మార్గుడు ఎప్పుడూ తిరుగుబాటు చేయడానికే చూస్తాడు. అలాటి వాడికి వ్యతిరేకంగా క్రూరుడైన వార్తాహరుణ్ణి పంపిస్తారు.
12 Let a bear robbed of her whelps meet a man, rather than a fool in his folly.
౧౨మూర్ఖపు పనులు చేస్తున్న మూర్ఖుడికి ఎదురు పడడం కంటే పిల్లలను పోగొట్టుకున్న ఎలుగుబంటిని కలుసుకోవడమే క్షేమం.
13 Whoso rewardeth evil for good, evil shall not depart from his house.
౧౩మేలుకు ప్రతిగా కీడు చేసేవాడి లోగిలిలో నుండి కీడు ఎన్నటికీ తొలగిపోదు.
14 The beginning of strife is as when one letteth out water; therefore leave off contention, before the quarrel break out.
౧౪పోట్లాట మొదలు పెట్టడం నీటిని వదిలిపెట్టినట్టే. కాబట్టి వివాదం పెరగక ముందే దాన్ని వదిలెయ్యి.
15 He that justifieth the wicked, and he that condemneth the righteous, even they both are an abomination to the LORD.
౧౫దుర్మార్గులను నిర్దోషులుగా, మంచి చేసే వారిని దోషులుగా తీర్పు తీర్చేవాడు వీరిద్దరూ యెహోవాకు అసహ్యం.
16 Wherefore is there a price in the hand of a fool to buy wisdom, seeing he hath no understanding?
౧౬బుద్ధిహీనుడు జ్ఞానం సంపాదించడానికి డబ్బు ఇవ్వడం దేనికి? నేర్చుకునే సామర్థ్యం వాడికి లేదు గదా?
17 A friend loveth at all times, and a brother is born for adversity.
౧౭స్నేహితుడు ఎప్పుడూ ప్రేమిస్తూనే ఉంటాడు. కష్టకాలంలో ఆదుకోడానికే సోదరులు పుట్టేది.
18 A man void of understanding is he that striketh hands, and becometh surety in the presence of his neighbour.
౧౮తన పొరుగువాడికి జామీను ఉండి అతడి అప్పులకు హామీ ఉండే వాడు తెలివితక్కువ వాడు.
19 He loveth transgression that loveth strife; he that exalteth his gate seeketh destruction.
౧౯కలహాలంటే ఇష్టం ఉన్నవాడు పాపాన్ని ప్రేమించేవాడు. తన ఇంటి వాకిళ్ళు ఎత్తు పెంచేవాడు ఎముకలు విరగడానికి కారణం అవుతాడు.
20 He that hath a froward heart findeth no good; and he that hath a perverse tongue falleth into evil.
౨౦దుష్ట హృదయం గలవాడికి మేలు జరగదు. కుటిలంగా మాట్లాడే వాడు ప్రమాదంలో చిక్కుకుంటాడు.
21 He that begetteth a fool doeth it to his sorrow; and the father of a churl hath no joy.
౨౧బుద్ధిలేని వాడి తండ్రికి దుఃఖమే. తెలివిలేని వాణ్ణి కన్నవాడికి సంతోషం లేదు.
22 A merry heart is a good medicine; but a broken spirit drieth the bones.
౨౨ఆహ్లాదకరమైన మనస్సు మంచి ఔషధం. చితికిపోయిన మనస్సు వల్ల ఎముకలు ఎండిపోతాయి.
23 A wicked man taketh a gift out of the bosom, to pervert the ways of justice.
౨౩న్యాయాన్ని తారుమారు చేయడానికి దుష్టుడు రహస్యంగా లంచం తీసుకుంటాడు.
24 Wisdom is before him that hath understanding; but the eyes of a fool are in the ends of the earth.
౨౪వివేకం గలవాడు తన ముఖాన్ని జ్ఞానం కేసి తిప్పుకుంటాడు. బుద్ధిలేని వాడి కళ్ళు భూమి కొనల వైపు తిరిగి ఉంటాయి.
25 A foolish son is vexation to his father, and bitterness to her that bore him.
౨౫బుద్ధిలేని కొడుకు తన తండ్రికి దుఃఖం తెస్తాడు. కన్న తల్లికి వాడు వేదన కలిగిస్తాడు.
26 To punish also the righteous is not good, nor to strike the noble for their uprightness.
౨౬మంచి చేసే వారిని శిక్షించడం న్యాయం కాదు. యథార్థత గల ఉదాత్తులను కొరడాలతో కొట్టడం తగదు.
27 He that spareth his words hath knowledge; and he that husbandeth his spirit is a man of discernment.
౨౭జ్ఞానం గలవాడు తక్కువగా మాట్లాడతాడు. అవగాహన గలవాడు శాంత గుణం కలిగి ఉంటాడు.
28 Even a fool, when he holdeth his peace, is counted wise; and he that shutteth his lips is esteemed as a man of understanding.
౨౮మూర్ఖుడు సైతం మౌనంగా ఉంటే చాలు, అందరూ అతడు జ్ఞాని అనుకుంటారు. అలాటి వాడు నోరు మూసుకుని ఉంటే చాలు, అతడు తెలివి గలవాడని అందరూ అనుకుంటారు.
