Proverbs 13
1 A wise son is instructed of his father; but a scorner heareth not rebuke.
O filho sábio [ouve] a correção do pai; mas o zombador não escuta a repreensão.
2 A man shall eat good from the fruit of his mouth; but the desire of the faithless is violence.
Cada um comerá do bem pelo fruto de sua boca, mas a alma dos infiéis [deseja] a violência.
3 He that guardeth his mouth keepeth his life; but for him that openeth wide his lips there shall be ruin.
Quem toma cuidado com sua boca preserva sua alma; mas aquele que abre muito seus lábios será arruinado.
4 The soul of the sluggard desireth, and hath nothing; but the soul of the diligent shall be abundantly gratified.
A alma do preguiçoso deseja, mas nada [consegue]; porém a alma dos trabalham com empenho prosperará.
5 A righteous man hateth lying; but a wicked man behaveth vilely and shamefully.
O justo odeia a palavra mentirosa, mas o perverso age de forma repugnante e vergonhosa.
6 Righteousness guardeth him that is upright in the way; but wickedness overthroweth the sinner.
A justiça guarda aquele que tem um caminho íntegro; mas a perversidade transtornará ao pecador.
7 There is that pretendeth himself rich, yet hath nothing; there is that pretendeth himself poor, yet hath great wealth.
Há [alguns] que fingem ser ricos, mesmo nada tendo; e [outros] que fingem ser pobres, mesmo tendo muitos bens.
8 The ransom of a man's life are his riches; but the poor heareth no threatening.
O resgate da vida de cada um são suas riquezas; mas o pobre não ouve ameaças.
9 The light of the righteous rejoiceth; but the lamp of the wicked shall be put out.
A luz dos justos se alegra, mas a lâmpada dos perversos se apagará.
10 By pride cometh only contention; but with the well-advised is wisdom.
A arrogância só produz brigas; mas com os que aceitam conselhos [está] a sabedoria.
11 Wealth gotten by vanity shall be diminished; but he that gathereth little by little shall increase.
A riqueza [ganha] sem esforço será perdida; mas aquele que a obtém pelas próprias mãos terá cada vez mais.
12 Hope deferred maketh the heart sick; but desire fulfilled is a tree of life.
A esperança que demora enfraquece o coração, mas o desejo cumprido é [como] uma árvore de vida.
13 Whoso despiseth the word shall suffer thereby; but he that feareth the commandment shall be rewarded.
Quem despreza a [boa] palavra perecerá; mas aquele que teme ao mandamento será recompensado.
14 The teaching of the wise is a fountain of life, to depart from the snares of death.
A doutrina do sábio é manancial de vida, para se desviar das ciladas da morte.
15 Good understanding giveth grace; but the way of the faithless is harsh.
O bom entendimento alcança o favor, mas o caminho dos infiéis é áspero.
16 Every prudent man dealeth with forethought; but a fool unfoldeth folly.
Todo prudente age com conhecimento, mas o tolo espalha sua loucura.
17 A wicked messenger falleth into evil; but a faithful ambassador is health.
O mensageiro perverso cai no mal, mas o representante fiel é [como] um remédio.
18 Poverty and shame shall be to him that refuseth instruction; but he that regardeth reproof shall be honoured.
[Haverá] pobreza e vergonha ao que rejeita a correção; mas aquele que atende à repreensão será honrado.
19 The desire accomplished is sweet to the soul; and it is an abomination to fools to depart from evil.
O desejo realizado agrada a alma, mas os tolos abominam se afastar do mal.
20 He that walketh with wise men shall be wise; but the companion of fools shall smart for it.
Quem anda com os sábios se torna sábio; mas aquele que acompanha os tolos sofrerá.
21 Evil pursueth sinners; but to the righteous good shall be repaid.
O mal perseguirá os pecadores, mas os justos serão recompensados com o bem.
22 A good man leaveth an inheritance to his children's children; and the wealth of the sinner is laid up for the righteous.
O homem de bem deixará herança aos filhos de seus filhos; mas a riqueza do pecador está reservada para o justo.
23 Much food is in the tillage of the poor; but there is that is swept away by want of righteousness.
A lavoura dos pobres [gera] muita comida; mas há [alguns] que se destroem por falta de juízo.
24 He that spareth his rod hateth his son; but he that loveth him chasteneth him betimes.
Aquele que retém sua vara odeia a seu filho; porém aquele que o ama, desde cedo o castiga.
25 The righteous eateth to the satisfying of his desire; but the belly of the wicked shall want.
O justo come até sua alma estar saciada; mas o ventre dos perversos passará por necessidade.
