Proverbs 13

1 A wise son is instructed of his father; but a scorner heareth not rebuke.

فرزند عاقل تأدیب پدر خود را می‌پذیرد، ولی کسی که همه چیز را به باد مسخره می‌گیرد از پذیرفتن توبیخ سر باز می‌زند.

2 A man shall eat good from the fruit of his mouth; but the desire of the faithless is violence.

سخنان مرد نیک حتی برای خود او نیکوست و جانش را سیر می‌کند، اما شخص بداندیش فقط تشنهٔ ظلم است.

3 He that guardeth his mouth keepeth his life; but for him that openeth wide his lips there shall be ruin.

هر که زبان خود را نگه دارد جان خود را حفظ می‌کند، اما کسی که نسنجیده سخن بگوید خود را هلاک خواهد کرد.

4 The soul of the sluggard desireth, and hath nothing; but the soul of the diligent shall be abundantly gratified.

آدم تنبل آنچه را که آرزو می‌کند به دست نمی‌آورد، اما شخص کوشا کامیاب می‌شود.

5 A righteous man hateth lying; but a wicked man behaveth vilely and shamefully.

درستکار از دروغ گفتن نفرت دارد، اما شرور رسوا و خوار می‌شود.

6 Righteousness guardeth him that is upright in the way; but wickedness overthroweth the sinner.

صداقت درستکاران آنها را حفظ می‌کند، اما شرارت بدکاران آنها را به نابودی می‌کشاند.

7 There is that pretendeth himself rich, yet hath nothing; there is that pretendeth himself poor, yet hath great wealth.

هستند کسانی که وانمود می‌کنند ثروتمندند در حالی که چیزی ندارند، و هستند کسانی که خود را فقیر نشان می‌دهند اما صاحب ثروت هنگفتی می‌باشند.

8 The ransom of a man's life are his riches; but the poor heareth no threatening.

ثروت شخص پولدار صرف حفاظت جان او می‌شود، اما جان آدم فقیر را خطری تهدید نمی‌کند.

9 The light of the righteous rejoiceth; but the lamp of the wicked shall be put out.

زندگی شخص نیک مانند چراغی نورانی می‌درخشد، ولی زندگی شریران مثل چراغی است که در حال خاموشی است.

10 By pride cometh only contention; but with the well-advised is wisdom.

تکبر باعث نزاع می‌شود، ولی شخص دانا نصیحت را می‌پذیرد.

11 Wealth gotten by vanity shall be diminished; but he that gathereth little by little shall increase.

ثروتی که از راه نادرست به دست بیاید طولی نمی‌کشد که از دست می‌رود؛ اما دارایی که با کار و کوشش جمع شود، به تدریج زیاد می‌گردد.

12 Hope deferred maketh the heart sick; but desire fulfilled is a tree of life.

آرزویی که انجام آن به تعویق افتاده باشد دل را بیمار می‌کند، اما برآورده شدن مراد، درخت حیات است.

13 Whoso despiseth the word shall suffer thereby; but he that feareth the commandment shall be rewarded.

هر که دستوری را که به او داده‌اند خوار بشمارد بی‌سزا نخواهد ماند، اما کسی که آن را اطاعت کند پاداش خواهد یافت.

14 The teaching of the wise is a fountain of life, to depart from the snares of death.

تعلیم مرد دانا چشمهٔ حیات است و شخص را از دامهای مرگ می‌رهاند.

15 Good understanding giveth grace; but the way of the faithless is harsh.

دانایی، احترام می‌آورد ولی خیانت به هلاکت منتهی می‌شود.

16 Every prudent man dealeth with forethought; but a fool unfoldeth folly.

مرد دانا سنجیده عمل می‌کند، اما جاهل حماقت خود را بروز می‌دهد.

17 A wicked messenger falleth into evil; but a faithful ambassador is health.

قاصدی که قابل اعتماد نباشد باعث گرفتاری می‌شود، اما پیک امین شفا به ارمغان می‌آورد.

18 Poverty and shame shall be to him that refuseth instruction; but he that regardeth reproof shall be honoured.

فقر و رسوایی دامنگیر کسی می‌شود که تأدیب را نمی‌پذیرد، اما شخصی که آن را بپذیرد مورد احترام واقع خواهد شد.

19 The desire accomplished is sweet to the soul; and it is an abomination to fools to depart from evil.

برآورده شدن آرزوها لذتبخش است، اما افراد نادان در پی آرزوهای ناپاک خود هستند و نمی‌خواهند از آنها دست بردارند.

20 He that walketh with wise men shall be wise; but the companion of fools shall smart for it.

با اشخاص دانا معاشرت کن و دانا خواهی شد، با احمقان بنشین و زیان خواهی دید.

21 Evil pursueth sinners; but to the righteous good shall be repaid.

بلا دامنگیر گناهکاران می‌شود، اما چیزهای خوب نصیب نیکان می‌گردد.

22 A good man leaveth an inheritance to his children's children; and the wealth of the sinner is laid up for the righteous.

شخص نیک حتی برای نوه‌هایش میراث باقی می‌گذارد، اما ثروتی که گناهکاران اندوخته‌اند به درستکاران می‌رسد.

23 Much food is in the tillage of the poor; but there is that is swept away by want of righteousness.

مزرعۀ شخص فقیر ممکن است محصول فراوان بدهد، ولی ظالمان آن را از چنگ او در می‌آورند.

24 He that spareth his rod hateth his son; but he that loveth him chasteneth him betimes.

کسی که فرزند خود را تنبیه نمی‌کند او را دوست ندارد، اما کسی که فرزندش را دوست دارد از تأدیب او کوتاهی نمی‌کند.

25 The righteous eateth to the satisfying of his desire; but the belly of the wicked shall want.

شخص درستکار از خوراکی که دارد می‌خورد و سیر می‌شود، ولی آدم بدکار گرسنگی می‌کشد.
