Proverbs 13
1 A wise son is instructed of his father; but a scorner heareth not rebuke.
Ein weiser Sohn läßt sich den Vater züchtigen; aber ein Spötter gehorchet der Strafe nicht.
2 A man shall eat good from the fruit of his mouth; but the desire of the faithless is violence.
Der Frucht des Mundes geneußt man; aber die Verächter denken nur zu freveln.
3 He that guardeth his mouth keepeth his life; but for him that openeth wide his lips there shall be ruin.
Wer seinen Mund bewahret, der bewahret sein Leben; wer aber mit seinem Maul herausfährt, der kommt in Schrecken.
4 The soul of the sluggard desireth, and hath nothing; but the soul of the diligent shall be abundantly gratified.
Der Faule begehrt und kriegt's doch nicht; aber die Fleißigen kriegen genug.
5 A righteous man hateth lying; but a wicked man behaveth vilely and shamefully.
Der Gerechte ist der Lüge feind; aber der Gottlose schändet und schmähet sich selbst.
6 Righteousness guardeth him that is upright in the way; but wickedness overthroweth the sinner.
Die Gerechtigkeit behütet den Unschuldigen; aber das gottlose Wesen bringet einen zu der Sünde.
7 There is that pretendeth himself rich, yet hath nothing; there is that pretendeth himself poor, yet hath great wealth.
Mancher ist arm bei großem Gut; und mancher ist reich bei seiner Armut.
8 The ransom of a man's life are his riches; but the poor heareth no threatening.
Mit Reichtum kann einer sein Leben erretten; aber ein Armer höret das Schelten nicht.
9 The light of the righteous rejoiceth; but the lamp of the wicked shall be put out.
Das Licht der Gerechten macht fröhlich; aber die Leuchte der Gottlosen wird auslöschen.
10 By pride cometh only contention; but with the well-advised is wisdom.
Unter den Stolzen ist immer Hader; aber Weisheit macht vernünftige Leute.
11 Wealth gotten by vanity shall be diminished; but he that gathereth little by little shall increase.
Reichtum wird wenig, wo man's vergeudet; was man aber zusammenhält, das wird groß.
12 Hope deferred maketh the heart sick; but desire fulfilled is a tree of life.
Die Hoffnung, die sich verzeucht, ängstet das Herz; wenn's aber kommt, das man begehret, das ist ein Baum des Lebens.
13 Whoso despiseth the word shall suffer thereby; but he that feareth the commandment shall be rewarded.
Wer das Wort verachtet, der verderbet sich selbst; wer aber das Gebot fürchtet, dem wird's vergolten.
14 The teaching of the wise is a fountain of life, to depart from the snares of death.
Die Lehre des Weisen ist eine lebendige Quelle, zu meiden die Stricke des Todes.
15 Good understanding giveth grace; but the way of the faithless is harsh.
Ein guter Rat tut sanft; aber der Verächter Weg bringt Wehe.
16 Every prudent man dealeth with forethought; but a fool unfoldeth folly.
Ein Kluger tut alles mit Vernunft; ein Narr aber breitet Narrheit aus.
17 A wicked messenger falleth into evil; but a faithful ambassador is health.
Ein gottloser Bote bringt Unglück; aber ein treuer Werber ist heilsam.
18 Poverty and shame shall be to him that refuseth instruction; but he that regardeth reproof shall be honoured.
Wer Zucht läßt fahren, der hat Armut und Schande; wer sich gerne strafen läßt, wird zu Ehren kommen.
19 The desire accomplished is sweet to the soul; and it is an abomination to fools to depart from evil.
Wenn's kommt, das man begehret, das tut dem Herzen wohl; aber der das Böse meidet, ist den Toren ein Greuel.
20 He that walketh with wise men shall be wise; but the companion of fools shall smart for it.
Wer mit den Weisen umgehet, der wird weise; wer aber der Narren Geselle ist, der wird Unglück haben.
21 Evil pursueth sinners; but to the righteous good shall be repaid.
Unglück verfolget die Sünder; aber den Gerechten wird Gutes vergolten.
22 A good man leaveth an inheritance to his children's children; and the wealth of the sinner is laid up for the righteous.
Der Gute wird erben auf Kindeskind aber des Sünders Gut wird dem Gerechten vorgesparet.
23 Much food is in the tillage of the poor; but there is that is swept away by want of righteousness.
Es ist viel Speise in den Furchen der Armen; aber die unrecht tun, verderben.
24 He that spareth his rod hateth his son; but he that loveth him chasteneth him betimes.
Wer seiner Rute schonet, der hasset seinen Sohn; wer ihn aber liebhat, der züchtiget ihn bald.
25 The righteous eateth to the satisfying of his desire; but the belly of the wicked shall want.
Der Gerechte isset, daß seine Seele satt wird; der Gottlosen Bauch aber hat nimmer genug.
