Proverbs 12
1 Whoso loveth knowledge loveth correction; but he that is brutish hateth reproof.
Wer Zucht will, will Erkenntnis, wer aber die Rüge haßt, ist dumm.
2 A good man shall obtain favour of the LORD; but a man of wicked devices will He condemn.
Ein Guter erlangt von Jahwe Wohlgefallen, aber den tückischen Mann verdammt er.
3 A man shall not be established by wickedness; but the root of the righteous shall never be moved.
Niemand gelangt durch gottloses Wesen zu festem Bestand, aber die Wurzel der Frommen wird nicht wanken.
4 A virtuous woman is a crown to her husband; but she that doeth shamefully is as rottenness in his bones.
Ein wackeres Weib ist die Krone ihres Gemahls, aber wie Wurmfraß in seinen Gebeinen ist eine schandbare.
5 The thoughts of the righteous are right; but the counsels of the wicked are deceit.
Die Gedanken der Frommen sind auf Recht aus, die Anschläge der Gottlosen auf Betrug.
6 The words of the wicked are to lie in wait for blood; but the mouth of the upright shall deliver them.
Der Gottlosen Reden bedrohen mit Lebensgefahr, aber der Mund der Rechtschaffenen errettet sie.
7 The wicked are overthrown, and are not; but the house of the righteous shall stand.
Die Gottlosen werden umgestürzt und sind nicht mehr, aber das Haus der Frommen bleibt stehen.
8 A man shall be commended according to his intelligence; but he that is of a distorted understanding shall be despised.
Nach dem Maße siener Klugheit wird ein Mann gelobt, wer aber verschrobenes Sinnes ist, fällt der Verachtung anheim.
9 Better is he that is lightly esteemed, and hath a servant, than he that playeth the man of rank, and lacketh bread.
Besser fährt, wer gering ist und dabei doch einen Diener hat, als wer vornehm tut und des Brots ermangelt.
10 A righteous man regardeth the life of his beast; but the tender mercies of the wicked are cruel.
Der Fromme weiß, wie seinem Vieh zu Mute ist, aber der Gottlosen Herz ist grausam.
11 He that tilleth his ground shall have plenty of bread; but he that followeth after vain things is void of understanding.
Wer seinen Acker baut, wird Brots die Fülle haben, wer aber nichtigen Dingen nachjagt, ist unverständig.
12 The wicked desireth the prey of evil men; but the root of the righteous yieldeth fruit.
Den Gottlosen gelüstet nach dem Fange der Bösen, aber die Wurzel des Frommen ist von Dauer.
13 In the transgression of the lips is a snare to the evil man; but the righteous cometh out of trouble.
Durch der Lippen Vergehung verstrickt sich der Böse, und so entgeht der Fromme der Not.
14 A man shall be satisfied with good by the fruit of his mouth, and the doings of a man's hands shall be rendered unto him.
Von der Frucht seines Mundes hat einer Gutes in Fülle, und was die Hände des Menschen anderen anthun, das fällt auf ihn zurück.
15 The way of a fool is straight in his own eyes; but he that is wise hearkeneth unto counsel.
Dem Narren erscheint sein Weg als der rechte, aber der Weise hört auf Rat.
16 A fool's vexation is presently known; but a prudent man concealeth shame.
Des Narren Ärger giebt sich auf der Stelle kund, der Kluge aber verbirgt den Schimpf.
17 He that breatheth forth truth uttereth righteousness; but a false witness deceit.
Wer ohne Scheu die Wahrheit spricht, sagt aus, was recht ist, ein falscher Zeuge aber Trügerei.
18 There is that speaketh like the piercings of a sword; but the tongue of the wise is health.
Es giebt welche, die schwatzen, als wären's Schwertstiche, aber die Zunge der Weisen bringt Heilung.
19 The lip of truth shall be established for ever; but a lying tongue is but for a moment.
Wahrhaftige Lippe besteht für immer, aber eine falsche Zunge nur für den Augenblick.
20 Deceit is in the heart of them that devise evil; but to the counsellors of peace is joy.
Trug ist im Herzen derer, die böses ersinnen; aber die zum Frieden raten, stiften Freude.
21 There shall no mischief befall the righteous; but the wicked are filled with evil.
Dem Frommen stößt keinerlei Unheil zu, aber die Gottlosen sind voll Unglücks.
22 Lying lips are an abomination to the LORD; but they that deal truly are His delight.
Falsche Lippen sind Jahwe ein Greuel; die aber Treue erzeigen, gefallen ihm wohl.
23 A prudent man concealeth knowledge; but the heart of fools proclaimeth foolishness.
Ein kluger Mann hält zurück mit seiner Erkenntnis; aber der Thoren Herz schreit die eigne Narrheit aus.
24 The hand of the diligent shall bear rule; but the slothful shall be under tribute.
Die Hand der Fleißigen wird herrschen, die lässige aber wird fronpflichtig werden.
25 Care in the heart of a man boweth it down; but a good word maketh it glad.
Kummer in eines Mannes Herzen drückt es nieder, aber ein freundliches Wort erheitert es.
26 The righteous is guided by his friend; but the way of the wicked leadeth them astray.
Der Fromme erspäht sich seine Weide, aber die Gottlosen führt ihr Weg in die Irre.
27 The slothful man shall not hunt his prey; but the precious substance of men is to be diligent.
Der Lässige erjagt sein Wild nicht, aber ein köstliches Gut für den Menschen ist Fleißigsein.
28 In the way of righteousness is life, and in the pathway thereof there is no death.
Auf dem Pfade der Gerechtigkeit ist Leben, aber der Weg des Frevels führt zum Tode.
