Proverbs 11
1 A false balance is an abomination to the LORD; but a perfect weight is His delight.
Netočna tehtnica je ogabnost Gospodu, toda pravično tehtanje je njegovo veselje.
2 When pride cometh, then cometh shame; but with the lowly is wisdom.
Ko prihaja ponos, zatem prihaja sramota, toda s ponižnim je modrost.
3 The integrity of the upright shall guide them; but the perverseness of the faithless shall destroy them.
Neokrnjenost iskrenih jih bo usmerjala, toda perverznost prestopnikov jih bo uničila.
4 Riches profit not in the day of wrath; but righteousness delivereth from death.
Bogastva ne koristijo na dan besa, toda pravičnost osvobaja pred smrtjo.
5 The righteousness of the sincere shall make straight his way; but the wicked shall fall by his own wickedness.
Pravičnost popolnega bo vodila njegovo pot, toda zlobni bo padel po svoji lastni zlobnosti.
6 The righteousness of the upright shall deliver them; but the faithless shall be trapped in their own crafty device.
Pravičnost iskrenega jih bo osvobodila, toda prestopniki bodo prevarani v svoji lastni porednosti.
7 When a wicked man dieth, his expectation shall perish, and the hope of strength perisheth.
Kadar zloben človek umre, bo njegovo pričakovanje propadlo, in upanje nepravičnih ljudi propada.
8 The righteous is delivered out of trouble, and the wicked cometh in his stead.
Pravični je osvobojen iz stiske, zlobni pa prihaja namesto njega.
9 With his mouth the impious man destroyeth his neighbour; but through knowledge shall the righteous be delivered.
Hinavec s svojimi usti uničuje svojega bližnjega, toda zaradi spoznanja bo pravični osvobojen.
10 When it goeth well with the righteous, the city rejoiceth; and when the wicked perish, there is joy.
Kadar gre dobro pravičnim, se mesto razveseljuje; kadar zlobni propadajo, pa je vriskanje.
11 By the blessing of the upright a city is exalted; but it is overthrown by the mouth of the wicked.
Z blagoslovom iskrenega je mesto povišano, toda premagano je z usti zlobnega.
12 He that despiseth his neighbour lacketh understanding; but a man of discernment holdeth his peace.
Kdor je brez modrosti, prezira svojega bližnjega, toda razumevajoč človek ohranja svoj mir.
13 He that goeth about as a talebearer revealeth secrets; but he that is of a faithful spirit concealeth a matter.
Tožljivec razodeva skrivnosti, toda kdor je zvestega duha, prikriva zadevo.
14 Where no wise direction is, a people falleth; but in the multitude of counsellors there is safety.
Kjer ni nasveta, ljudstvo pada, toda v množici svetovalcev je varnost.
15 He that is surety for a stranger shall smart for it; but he that hateth them that strike hands is secure.
Kdor je pôrok za tujca, se bo kesal za to in kdor sovraži poroštvo, je zanesljiv.
16 A gracious woman obtaineth honour; and strong men obtain riches.
Milostljiva ženska ohranja čast, močni ljudje ohranjajo bogastva.
17 The merciful man doeth good to his own soul; but he that is cruel troubleth his own flesh.
Usmiljen človek dela dobro svoji lastni duši, toda kdor je krut, nadleguje svoje lastno meso.
18 The wicked earneth deceitful wages; but he that soweth righteousness hath a sure reward.
Zlobnež počne varljivo delo, toda tistemu, ki seje pravičnost, bo plačilo zanesljivo.
19 Stedfast righteousness tendeth to life; but he that pursueth evil pursueth it to his own death.
Kakor se pravičnost nagiba k življenju, tako kdor zasleduje zlo, to zasleduje do svoje lastne smrti.
20 They that are perverse in heart are an abomination to the LORD; but such as are upright in their way are His delight.
Tisti, ki so kljubovalnega srca, so ogabnost Gospodu, toda tisti, ki so na svoji poti iskreni, so njegovo veselje.
21 My hand upon it! the evil man shall not be unpunished; but the seed of the righteous shall escape.
Čeprav se roka rokuje z roko, zlobni ne bodo nekaznovani, toda seme pravičnih bo osvobojeno.
22 As a ring of gold in a swine's snout, so is a fair woman that turneth aside from discretion.
Kakor dragocenost iz zlata v svinjskem rilcu, tako je lepa ženska brez preudarnosti.
23 The desire of the righteous is only good; but the expectation of the wicked is wrath.
Želja pravičnega je samo dobro, toda pričakovanje zlobnega je bes.
24 There is that scattereth, and yet increaseth; and there is that withholdeth more than is meet, but it tendeth only to want.
Tam je, ki razsipa in še povečuje in tam je, ki zadržuje več, kot je primerno, toda to nagiba k revščini.
25 The beneficent soul shall be made rich, and he that satisfieth abundantly shall be satisfied also himself.
Velikodušna duša bo postala premožna in kdor napaja, bo tudi sam napojen.
26 He that withholdeth corn, the people shall curse him; but blessing shall be upon the head of him that selleth it.
Kdor zadržuje žito, ga bo ljudstvo preklelo, toda blagoslov bo na glavi tistega, ki ga prodaja.
27 He that diligently seeketh good seeketh favour; but he that searcheth for evil, it shall come unto him.
Kdor marljivo išče dobro, dosega naklonjenost, toda kdor išče vragolijo, bo ta prišla k njemu.
28 He that trusteth in his riches shall fall; but the righteous shall flourish as foliage.
Kdor zaupa v svoja bogastva, bo padel, toda pravični bo cvetel kakor mladika.
29 He that troubleth his own house shall inherit the wind; and the foolish shall be servant to the wise of heart.
Kdor nadleguje svojo lastno hišo, bo podedoval veter in bedak bo služabnik modremu v srcu.
30 The fruit of the righteous is a tree of life; and he that is wise winneth souls.
Sad pravičnega je drevo življenja in kdor pridobiva duše, je moder.
31 Behold, the righteous shall be requited in the earth; how much more the wicked and the sinner!
Glej, pravični bo poplačan v zemlji, koliko bolj zlobni in grešnik.
