Proverbs 10

1 The proverbs of Solomon. A wise son maketh a glad father; but a foolish son is the grief of his mother.

امثال سلیمان: پسر عاقل پدرش را شاد می‌سازد، اما پسر نادان باعث غم مادرش می‌گردد.

2 Treasures of wickedness profit nothing; but righteousness delivereth from death.

ثروتی که از راه نادرست به دست آمده باشد نفعی به انسان نمی‌رساند، اما درستکاری به او سعادت دائمی می‌بخشد.

3 The LORD will not suffer the soul of the righteous to famish; but He thrusteth away the desire of the wicked.

خداوند نمی‌گذارد مرد درستکار گرسنگی بکشد و یا مرد شریر به آرزوی خود برسد.

4 He becometh poor that dealeth with a slack hand; but the hand of the diligent maketh rich.

آدمهای تنبل، فقیر می‌شوند، ولی اشخاص کوشا ثروتمند می‌گردند.

5 A wise son gathereth in summer; but a son that doeth shamefully sleepeth in harvest.

کسی که به موقع محصول خود را برداشت می‌کند عاقل است، اما کسی که موقع برداشت محصول می‌خوابد مایهٔ ننگ است.

6 Blessings are upon the head of the righteous; but the mouth of the wicked concealeth violence.

بر سر درستکاران برکت‌هاست، اما وجود بدکاران از ظلم و لعنت پوشیده است.

7 The memory of the righteous shall be for a blessing; but the name of the wicked shall rot.

نیکان خاطرهٔ خوبی از خود باقی می‌گذارند، اما نام بدکاران به فراموشی سپرده می‌شود.

8 The wise in heart will receive commandments; but a prating fool shall fall.

شخص عاقل پند و اندرز را می‌پذیرد، اما نادان یاوه‌گو هلاک می‌شود.

9 He that walketh uprightly walketh securely; but he that perverteth his ways shall be found out.

قدمهای شخص درستکار ثابت و استوار است، ولی شخص کجرو عاقبت می‌لغزد و می‌افتد.

10 He that winketh with the eye causeth sorrow; and a prating fool shall fall.

آن که با نیت بد چشمک می‌زند سبب رنجش می‌شود، اما آن که بی‌پرده نکوهش می‌کند باعث صلح می‌شود.

11 The mouth of the righteous is a fountain of life; but the mouth of the wicked concealeth violence.

دهان درستکاران چشمهٔ حیات است، اما دهان شخص بدکار پر از نفرین می‌باشد.

12 Hatred stirreth up strifes; but love covereth all transgressions.

کینه و نفرت باعث نزاع می‌شود، اما محبت گناه دیگران را می‌بخشد.

13 In the lips of him that hath discernment wisdom is found; but a rod is for the back of him that is void of understanding.

اشخاص دانا به خاطر سخنان حکیمانه‌شان مورد ستایش قرار می‌گیرند، اما اشخاص نادان چوب حماقت خود را می‌خورند.

14 Wise men lay up knowledge; but the mouth of the foolish is an imminent ruin.

در دهان شخص دانا سخنان سنجیده یافت می‌شود، اما آدم نادان نسنجیده سخن می‌گوید و خرابی به بار می‌آورد.

15 The rich man's wealth is his strong city; the ruin of the poor is their poverty.

ثروت شخص ثروتمند قلعۀ اوست، اما بینوایی شخص فقیر او را از پای درمی‌آورد.

16 The wages of the righteous is life; the increase of the wicked is sin.

درآمد شخص درستکار به زندگی او رونق می‌بخشد، اما شخص بدکار درآمد خود را در راههای گناه‌آلود بر باد می‌دهد.

17 He is in the way of life that heedeth instruction; but he that forsaketh reproof erreth.

کسی که تأدیب را می‌پذیرد در راه حیات گام برمی‌دارد، اما کسی که نمی‌خواهد اصلاح گردد، به گمراهی کشیده می‌شود.

18 He that hideth hatred is of lying lips; and he that uttereth a slander is a fool.

کسی که کینه‌اش را پنهان می‌کند آدم نادرستی است. شخصی که شایعات بی‌اساس را پخش می‌کند نادان است.

19 In the multitude of words there wanteth not transgression; but he that refraineth his lips is wise.

پرحرفی، انسان را به سوی گناه می‌کشاند. عاقل کسی است که زبانش را مهار کند.

20 The tongue of the righteous is as choice silver; the heart of the wicked is little worth.

سخنان عادلان مانند نقره گرانبهاست، اما سخنان بدکاران هیچ ارزشی ندارد.

21 The lips of the righteous feed many; but the foolish die for want of understanding.

سخنان خوب عادلان، دیگران را احیا می‌کند، اما حماقت نادانان باعث مرگ خودشان می‌شود.

22 The blessing of the LORD, it maketh rich, and toil addeth nothing thereto.

برکت خداوند انسان را ثروتمند می‌سازد بدون اینکه زحمتی برای وی به بار آورد.

23 It is as sport to a fool to do wickedness, and so is wisdom to a man of discernment.

آدم نادان از عمل بد لذت می‌برد و شخص دانا از حکمت.

24 The fear of the wicked, it shall come upon him; and the desire of the righteous shall be granted.

آنچه بدکاران از آن می‌ترسند بر سرشان می‌آید، اما نیکان به آرزوی خود می‌رسند.

25 When the whirlwind passeth, the wicked is no more; but the righteous is an everlasting foundation.

بلا و مصیبت چون گردباد از راه می‌رسد و بدکاران را با خود می‌برد، اما شخص درستکار مانند صخره، پا برجا می‌ماند.

26 As vinegar to the teeth, and as smoke to the eyes, so is the sluggard to them that send him.

هرگز از آدم تنبل نخواه برای تو کاری انجام دهد؛ او مثل دودی است که به چشم می‌رود و مانند سرکه‌ای است که دندان را کند می‌کند.

27 The fear of the LORD prolongeth days; but the years of the wicked shall be shortened.

خداترسی سالهای عمر انسان را زیاد می‌کند، اما شرارت از عمر او می‌کاهد.

28 The hope of the righteous is gladness; but the expectation of the wicked shall perish.

امید درستکاران به شادی می‌انجامد، اما امید بدکاران بر باد می‌رود.

29 The way of the LORD is a stronghold to the upright, but ruin to the workers of iniquity.

خدا برای نیکان قلعه‌ای محافظ است، اما او بدان را هلاک خواهد کرد.

30 The righteous shall never be moved; but the wicked shall not inhabit the land.

درستکاران همیشه از امنیت برخوردار خواهند بود، اما بدکاران بر زمین، زنده نخواهند ماند.

31 The mouth of the righteous buddeth with wisdom; but the froward tongue shall be cut off.

از دهان درستکاران غنچه‌های حکمت می‌شکفد، اما زبان دروغگویان از ریشه کنده خواهد شد.

32 The lips of the righteous know what is acceptable; but the mouth of the wicked is all frowardness.

عادلان همیشه سخنان خوشایند بر زبان می‌آورند، اما دهان بدکاران از سخنان نیشدار پر است.
