Numbers 24

1 And when Balaam saw that it pleased the LORD to bless Israel, he went not, as at the other times, to meet with enchantments, but he set his face toward the wilderness.

Cuando Balaam vio que era un placer del Señor dar su bendición a Israel, como en otras ocasiones, no usó las artes secretas, sino que volvió su rostro hacia él desierto.

2 And Balaam lifted up his eyes, and he saw Israel dwelling tribe by tribe; and the spirit of God came upon him.

Y alzando sus ojos, vio a Israel allí, con sus tiendas en el orden de sus tribus; y el espíritu de Dios vino sobre él.

3 And he took up his parable, and said: The saying of Balaam the son of Beor, and the saying of the man whose eye is opened;

Y conmovido por el espíritu, dijo: Estas son las palabras de Balaam, hijo de Beor, las palabras del hombre cuyos ojos están abiertos:

4 The saying of him who heareth the words of God, who seeth the vision of the Almighty, fallen down, yet with opened eyes:

Él dice, cuyos oídos están abiertos a las palabras de Dios, que ha visto la visión del Gobernante de todos, cayendo, pero con los ojos abiertos.

5 How goodly are thy tents, O Jacob, thy dwellings, O Israel!

¡Qué hermosas son tus tiendas, oh Jacob, tus habitaciones, oh Israel!

6 As valleys stretched out, as gardens by the river-side; as aloes planted of the LORD, as cedars beside the waters;

Se extienden como valles, como jardines a orillas del río, como árboles en flor plantados por el Señor, como árboles de cedro por las aguas.

7 Water shall flow from his branches, and his seed shall be in many waters; and his king shall be higher than Agag, and his kingdom shall be exalted.

De sus manos brotara agua, su simiente será en muchas aguas; su rey será más alto que Agag, y su reino se hará grande en honor.

8 God who brought him forth out of Egypt is for him like the lofty horns of the wild-ox; he shall eat up the nations that are his adversaries, and shall break their bones in pieces, and pierce them through with his arrows.

Es Dios quien lo sacó de Egipto; tiene fuerzas como de búfalo las naciones que luchan contra él serán su alimento, sus huesos serán quebrantados, serán heridos con sus flechas.

9 He couched, he lay down as a lion, and as a lioness; who shall rouse him up? Blessed be every one that blesseth thee, and cursed be every one that curseth thee.

Tomó su sueño extendido como un león, y como una leona: ¿por quién interrumpirá su descanso? Que una bendición sea para todos los que te dan la bendición, y una maldición para todos los que te maldijeron.

10 And Balak's anger was kindled against Balaam, and he smote his hands together; and Balak said unto Balaam: 'I called thee to curse mine enemies, and, behold, thou hast altogether blessed them these three times.

Entonces Balac se llenó de ira contra Balaam, y agitando sus manos airadamente, le dijo a Balaam: “Yo envié por ti para que los que están en mi contra puedan ser maldecidos, pero ahora, mira, tres veces les has dado una bendición.

11 Therefore now flee thou to thy place; I thought to promote thee unto great honour; but, lo, the LORD hath kept thee back from honour.'

Regresa rápidamente al lugar de donde viniste: era mi propósito darte un lugar de honor, pero ahora el Señor te ha alejado del honor.

12 And Balaam said unto Balak: 'Spoke I not also to thy messengers that thou didst send unto me, saying:

Entonces Balaam dijo a Balac: ¿No he dicho a los hombres que me enviaste, diciendo:

13 If Balak would give me his house full of silver and gold, I cannot go beyond the word of the LORD, to do either good or bad of mine own mind; what the LORD speaketh, that will I speak?

Aun si Balac me diera su casa llena de plata y oro, no me sería posible ir fuera de las órdenes del Señor, haciendo el bien o el mal por el impulso de mi mente; lo que diga el Señor, yo diré?

14 And now, behold, I go unto my people; come, and I will announce to thee what this people shall do to thy people in the end of days.'

Así que ahora volveré con mi gente; pero primero permítanme aclararles lo que esta gente hará a tu gente en los próximos días.

15 And he took up his parable, and said: The saying of Balaam the son of Beor, and the saying of the man whose eye is opened;

Luego continuó con su historia y dijo: Estas son las palabras de Balaam, el hijo de Beor, las palabras de aquel cuyos ojos están abiertos:

16 The saying of him who heareth the words of God, and knoweth the knowledge of the Most High, who seeth the vision of the Almighty, fallen down, yet with opened eyes:

Dijo él que oyó las palabras de Dios, que tiene conocimiento del Altísimo, que ha visto la visión del omnipotente, cayendo en éxtasis y con sus ojos abiertos.

17 I see him, but not now; I behold him, but not nigh; there shall step forth a star out of Jacob, and a scepter shall rise out of Israel, and shall smite through the corners of Moab, and break down all the sons of Seth.

Lo veo, pero no ahora: mirándolo, pero no cerca: saldrá una estrella de Jacob, y una vara de autoridad de Israel, enviando destrucción a los límites más lejanos de Moab y sobre la cabeza de todos los hijos de Set.

18 And Edom shall be a possession, Seir also, even his enemies, shall be a possession; while Israel doeth valiantly.

Edom será su herencia, y pondrá fin al último de los habitantes de Seir.

19 And out of Jacob shall one have dominion, and shall destroy the remnant from the city.

E Israel continuará con fuerza, y Jacob tendrá dominio sobre sus enemigos.

20 And he looked on Amalek, and took up his parable, and said: Amalek was the first of the nations; but his end shall come to destruction.

Luego, volviendo sus ojos a Amalec, continuó con su historia y dijo: Amalec fue la primera de las naciones, pero su parte será destrucción para siempre.

21 And he looked on the Kenite, and took up his parable, and said: Though firm be thy dwelling-place, and though thy nest be set in the rock;

Mirando al ceneo, continuó con su historia y dijo: Fuerte es tu lugar de vida, y tu lugar secreto está a salvo en la roca.

22 Nevertheless Kain shall be wasted; How long? Asshur shall carry thee away captive.

Pero aún así, los descendientes de Caín serán destruidos con fuego, cuando Asiria les lleve prisionero.

23 And he took up his parable, and said: Alas, who shall live after God hath appointed him?

Luego continuó con su historia y dijo: ¿Pero quién puede conservar su vida cuando Dios hace esto?

24 But ships shall come from the coast of Kittim, and they shall afflict Asshur, and shall afflict Eber, and he also shall come to destruction.

Pero los barcos vendrán de la dirección de Chipre, a Asiria y a Heber, y al igual que a los demás, su destino será la destrucción.

25 And Balaam rose up, and went and returned to his place; and Balak also went his way.

Entonces Balaam se levantó y volvió a su lugar, y Balac se fue.
