Nehemiah 4
1 But it came to pass that, when Sanballat heard that we builded the wall, he was wroth, and took great indignation, and mocked the Jews.
੧ਜਦ ਸਨਬੱਲਟ ਨੇ ਸੁਣਿਆ ਕਿ ਅਸੀਂ ਸ਼ਹਿਰਪਨਾਹ ਨੂੰ ਬਣਾ ਰਹੇ ਹਾਂ ਤਾਂ ਉਸ ਨੂੰ ਗੁੱਸਾ ਚੜ੍ਹਿਆ ਅਤੇ ਉਹ ਬਹੁਤ ਨਰਾਜ਼ ਹੋਇਆ ਅਤੇ ਯਹੂਦੀਆਂ ਦਾ ਮਖ਼ੌਲ ਉਡਾਉਣ ਲੱਗਾ।
2 And he spoke before his brethren and the army of Samaria, and said: 'What do these feeble Jews? will they restore at will? will they sacrifice? will they make an end this day? will they revive the stones out of the heaps of rubbish, seeing they are burned?'
੨ਉਸ ਨੇ ਆਪਣੇ ਭਰਾਵਾਂ ਅਤੇ ਸਾਮਰਿਯਾ ਦੀ ਫ਼ੌਜ ਦੇ ਸਾਹਮਣੇ ਕਿਹਾ, “ਇਹ ਨਿਰਬਲ ਯਹੂਦੀ ਕੀ ਕਰ ਰਹੇ ਹਨ? ਕੀ ਉਹ ਆਪਣੀਆਂ ਕੰਧਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਮਜ਼ਬੂਤ ਕਰਨਗੇ? ਕੀ ਉਹ ਬਲੀਆਂ ਚੜ੍ਹਾਉਣਗੇ? ਕੀ ਉਹ ਇੱਕ ਹੀ ਦਿਨ ਵਿੱਚ ਸਭ ਕੁਝ ਬਣਾ ਲੈਣਗੇ? ਕੀ ਉਹ ਪੱਥਰਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਕੂੜੇ ਦੇ ਸੜੇ ਹੋਏ ਢੇਰਾਂ ਵਿੱਚੋਂ ਚੁਗ ਕੇ ਫਿਰ ਨਵਾਂ ਬਣਾ ਲੈਣਗੇ?”
3 Now Tobiah the Ammonite was by him, and he said: 'Even that which they build, if a fox go up, he shall break down their stone wall.'
੩ਤਦ ਤੋਬਿਆਹ ਅੰਮੋਨੀ ਨੇ ਜਿਹੜਾ ਉਸ ਦੇ ਨਾਲ ਸੀ, ਕਹਿਣ ਲੱਗਾ, “ਜੋ ਕੁਝ ਇਹ ਬਣਾ ਰਹੇ ਹਨ ਜੇ ਇੱਕ ਲੂੰਬੜੀ ਵੀ ਇਹ ਦੇ ਉੱਤੇ ਚੜ੍ਹ ਜਾਵੇ ਤਾਂ ਪੱਥਰਾਂ ਦੀ ਇਸ ਕੰਧ ਨੂੰ ਢਾਹ ਦੇਵੇਗੀ!”
4 Hear, O our God; for we are despised; and turn back their reproach upon their own head, and give them up to spoiling in a land of captivity;
੪“ਹੇ ਸਾਡੇ ਪਰਮੇਸ਼ੁਰ, ਸਾਡੀ ਸੁਣ ਕਿਉਂ ਜੋ ਸਾਡਾ ਨਿਰਾਦਰ ਹੁੰਦਾ ਹੈ। ਉਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਦੀ ਇਸ ਨਿੰਦਿਆ ਨੂੰ ਮੁੜ ਉਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਦੇ ਸਿਰ ਉੱਤੇ ਮੋੜ ਦੇ, ਅਤੇ ਗ਼ੁਲਾਮੀ ਦੇ ਦੇਸ਼ ਵਿੱਚ ਉਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਲੁੱਟ ਦਾ ਮਾਲ ਬਣਾ ਦੇ।
5 and cover not their iniquity, and let not their sin be blotted out from before Thee; for they have vexed Thee before the builders.
੫ਉਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਦੀ ਬੁਰਿਆਈ ਨੂੰ ਨਾ ਢੱਕ ਅਤੇ ਉਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਦੇ ਪਾਪ ਤੇਰੇ ਸਾਹਮਣਿਓਂ ਨਾ ਮਿਟਣ, ਕਿਉਂ ਜੋ ਉਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਨੇ ਤੇਰੇ ਕ੍ਰੋਧ ਨੂੰ ਕਾਰੀਰਗਾਂ ਦੇ ਅੱਗੇ ਭੜਕਾਇਆ ਹੈ।”
6 So we built the wall; and all the wall was joined together unto half the height thereof; for the people had a mind to work.
੬ਸੋ ਅਸੀਂ ਸ਼ਹਿਰਪਨਾਹ ਨੂੰ ਬਣਾਉਂਦੇ ਗਏ ਅਤੇ ਸਾਰੀ ਸ਼ਹਿਰਪਨਾਹ ਅੱਧੀ ਉਚਾਈ ਤੱਕ ਜੁੜ ਗਈ ਕਿਉਂ ਜੋ ਲੋਕ ਪੂਰੇ ਦਿਲ ਨਾਲ ਕੰਮ ਕਰ ਰਹੇ ਸਨ।
7 But it came to pass that, when Sanballat, and Tobiah, and the Arabians, and the Ammonites, and the Ashdodites, heard that the repairing of the walls of Jerusalem went forward, and that the breaches began to be stopped, then they were very wroth;
੭ਫਿਰ ਅਜਿਹਾ ਹੋਇਆ ਕਿ ਸਨਬੱਲਟ, ਤੋਬਿਆਹ, ਅਰਬੀਆਂ, ਅੰਮੋਨੀਆਂ, ਅਤੇ ਅਸ਼ਦੋਦੀਆਂ ਨੇ ਸੁਣਿਆ ਕਿ ਯਰੂਸ਼ਲਮ ਦੀ ਸ਼ਹਿਰਪਨਾਹ ਦੀ ਮੁਰੰਮਤ ਹੁੰਦੀ ਜਾਂਦੀ ਹੈ ਅਤੇ ਉਸ ਦੀਆਂ ਦਰਾਰਾਂ ਭਰਦੀਆਂ ਜਾਂਦੀਆਂ ਹਨ ਤਾਂ ਉਹ ਬਹੁਤ ਹੀ ਗੁੱਸੇ ਹੋ ਗਏ।
8 and they conspired all of them together to come and fight against Jerusalem, and to cause confusion therein.
੮ਤਦ ਉਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਸਾਰਿਆਂ ਨੇ ਇੱਕ ਮਨ ਹੋ ਕੇ ਯੋਜਨਾ ਬਣਾਈ ਕਿ ਆਓ, ਯਰੂਸ਼ਲਮ ਨਾਲ ਲੜੀਏ ਅਤੇ ਉਸ ਵਿੱਚ ਗੜ੍ਹਬੜ ਪਾ ਦੇਈਏ।
9 But we made our prayer unto our God, and set a watch against them day and night, because of them.
੯ਪਰ ਅਸੀਂ ਆਪਣੇ ਪਰਮੇਸ਼ੁਰ ਅੱਗੇ ਪ੍ਰਾਰਥਨਾ ਕੀਤੀ ਅਤੇ ਉਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਦੇ ਡਰ ਕਾਰਨ ਉਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਦੇ ਵਿਰੁੱਧ ਦਿਨ ਰਾਤ ਪਹਿਰਾ ਖੜ੍ਹਾ ਕੀਤਾ।
10 And Judah said: 'The strength of the bearers of burdens is decayed, and there is much rubbish; so that we are not able to build the wall.'
੧੦ਤਦ ਯਹੂਦਾਹ ਦੇ ਲੋਕਾਂ ਨੇ ਕਿਹਾ, “ਭਾਰ ਚੁੱਕਣ ਵਾਲਿਆਂ ਦਾ ਬਲ ਘੱਟਦਾ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ ਅਤੇ ਮਲਬਾ ਬਹੁਤ ਪਿਆ ਹੋਇਆ ਹੈ, ਇਸ ਲਈ ਅਸੀਂ ਸ਼ਹਿਰਪਨਾਹ ਨੂੰ ਨਹੀਂ ਬਣਾ ਸਕਦੇ।”
11 And our adversaries said: 'They shall not know, neither see, till we come into the midst of them, and slay them, and cause the work to cease.'
੧੧ਅਤੇ ਸਾਡੇ ਵਿਰੋਧੀ ਕਹਿਣ ਲੱਗੇ, “ਜਦ ਤੱਕ ਅਸੀਂ ਉਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਦੇ ਵਿੱਚ ਜਾ ਕੇ ਉਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਮਾਰ ਨਾ ਦੇਈਏ ਅਤੇ ਉਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਦੇ ਕੰਮ ਨੂੰ ਬੰਦ ਨਾ ਕਰ ਦੇਈਏ, ਤਦ ਤੱਕ ਨਾ ਉਹ ਕੁਝ ਜਾਨਣਗੇ ਅਤੇ ਨਾ ਹੀ ਵੇਖਣਗੇ।”
12 And it came to pass that, when the Jews that dwelt by them came, they said unto us ten times: 'Ye must return unto us from all places.'
੧੨ਫਿਰ ਅਜਿਹਾ ਹੋਇਆ ਕਿ ਜੋ ਯਹੂਦੀ ਜਿਹੜੇ ਉਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਦੇ ਨੇੜੇ-ਤੇੜੇ ਵੱਸਦੇ ਸਨ, ਉਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਨੇ ਆ ਕੇ ਸਾਨੂੰ ਦਸ ਵਾਰੀ ਦੱਸਿਆ, ਉਹ ਸਾਰੀਆਂ ਥਾਵਾਂ ਵਿੱਚੋਂ ਸਾਡੇ ਉੱਤੇ ਹਮਲਾ ਕਰਨਗੇ।
13 Therefore set I in the lowest parts of the space behind the wall, in the open places, I even set the people after their families with their swords, their spears, and their bows.
੧੩ਇਸ ਕਰਕੇ ਮੈਂ ਲੋਕਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਉਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਦੇ ਘਰਾਣਿਆਂ ਦੇ ਅਨੁਸਾਰ ਤਲਵਾਰਾਂ, ਬਰਛੀਆਂ ਅਤੇ ਤੀਰ-ਕਮਾਨਾਂ ਨਾਲ ਸ਼ਹਿਰਪਨਾਹ ਦੇ ਪਿੱਛੇ ਸਭ ਤੋਂ ਨੀਵੇਂ ਸਥਾਨਾਂ ਵਿੱਚ ਖੁੱਲ੍ਹੇ ਸਥਾਨਾਂ ਤੇ ਖੜ੍ਹਾ ਕੀਤਾ।
14 And I looked, and rose up, and said unto the nobles, and to the rulers, and to the rest of the people: 'Be not ye afraid of them; remember the Lord, who is great and awful, and fight for your brethren, your sons and your daughters, your wives and your houses.'
੧੪ਤਦ ਮੈਂ ਸਭ ਕੁਝ ਵੇਖ ਕੇ ਉੱਠਿਆ ਅਤੇ ਸਾਮੰਤਾਂ ਅਤੇ ਹਾਕਮਾਂ ਅਤੇ ਬਾਕੀ ਸਾਰੇ ਲੋਕਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਕਿਹਾ, “ਉਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਤੋਂ ਨਾ ਡਰੋ, ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਨੂੰ ਜੋ ਮਹਾਨ ਅਤੇ ਭੈਅ ਯੋਗ ਹੈ, ਯਾਦ ਰੱਖੋ ਅਤੇ ਆਪਣੇ ਭਰਾਵਾਂ, ਆਪਣੇ ਪੁੱਤਰਾਂ, ਆਪਣੀਆਂ ਧੀਆਂ, ਆਪਣੀਆਂ ਪਤਨੀਆਂ ਅਤੇ ਆਪਣੇ ਘਰਾਂ ਲਈ ਲੜੋ!”
15 And it came to pass, when our enemies heard that it was known unto us, and God had brought their counsel to nought, that we returned all of us to the wall, every one unto his work.
੧੫ਫਿਰ ਅਜਿਹਾ ਹੋਇਆ ਕਿ ਜਦ ਸਾਡੇ ਵੈਰੀਆਂ ਨੇ ਸੁਣਿਆ ਕਿ ਇਸ ਗੱਲ ਦਾ ਸਾਨੂੰ ਪਤਾ ਲੱਗ ਗਿਆ ਹੈ ਅਤੇ ਪਰਮੇਸ਼ੁਰ ਨੇ ਉਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਦੀ ਯੋਜਨਾ ਨੂੰ ਅਸਫ਼ਲ ਕਰ ਦਿੱਤਾ ਹੈ ਤਾਂ ਅਸੀਂ ਸਾਰੇ ਸ਼ਹਿਰਪਨਾਹ ਵੱਲ ਮੁੜ ਆਏ ਅਤੇ ਹਰ ਇੱਕ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਆਪਣੇ-ਆਪਣੇ ਕੰਮ ਨੂੰ ਗਿਆ।
16 And it came to pass from that time forth, that half of my servants wrought in the work, and half of them held the spears, the shields, and the bows, and the coats of mail; and the rulers were behind all the house of Judah.
੧੬ਫਿਰ ਉਸ ਦਿਨ ਤੋਂ ਮੇਰੇ ਅੱਧੇ ਜੁਆਨ ਤਾਂ ਕੰਮ ਵਿੱਚ ਲੱਗੇ ਰਹਿੰਦੇ ਸਨ ਅਤੇ ਬਾਕੀ ਅੱਧੇ ਬਰਛੀਆਂ, ਢਾਲਾਂ ਤੇ ਕਮਾਨਾਂ ਲੈ ਕੇ ਅਤੇ ਸ਼ਸਤਰ ਪਾ ਕੇ ਰਹਿੰਦੇ ਸਨ ਅਤੇ ਹਾਕਮ ਯਹੂਦਾਹ ਦੇ ਸਾਰੇ ਘਰਾਣੇ ਦੇ ਪਿੱਛੇ ਰਹਿੰਦੇ ਸਨ।
17 They that builded the wall and they that bore burdens laded themselves, every one with one of his hands wrought in the work, and with the other held his weapon;
੧੭ਉਹ ਜਿਹੜੇ ਸ਼ਹਿਰਪਨਾਹ ਬਣਾਉਂਦੇ ਸਨ ਅਤੇ ਉਹ ਜਿਹੜੇ ਭਾਰ ਚੁੱਕਦੇ ਸਨ, ਇੱਕ ਹੱਥ ਨਾਲ ਕੰਮ ਕਰਦੇ ਸਨ ਅਤੇ ਦੂਜੇ ਹੱਥ ਨਾਲ ਹਥਿਆਰ ਫੜ੍ਹੀ ਰੱਖਦੇ ਸਨ,
18 and the builders, every one had his sword girded by his side, and so builded. And he that sounded the horn was by me.
੧੮ਅਤੇ ਰਾਜ ਮਿਸਤਰੀ ਆਪਣੇ-ਆਪਣੇ ਕਮਰ-ਕੱਸਿਆਂ ਵਿੱਚ ਆਪਣੀਆਂ ਤਲਵਾਰਾਂ ਬੰਨ੍ਹ ਕੇ ਕੰਮ ਕਰਦੇ ਸਨ ਪਰ ਨਰਸਿੰਗੇ ਦਾ ਫੂਕਣ ਵਾਲਾ ਮੇਰੇ ਕੋਲ ਰਹਿੰਦਾ ਸੀ।
19 And I said unto the nobles, and to the rulers and to the rest of the people: 'The work is great and large, and we are separated upon the wall, one far from another;
੧੯ਇਸ ਲਈ ਮੈਂ ਸਾਮੰਤਾਂ, ਹਾਕਮਾਂ ਅਤੇ ਬਾਕੀ ਦੇ ਸਾਰੇ ਲੋਕਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਕਿਹਾ, “ਕੰਮ ਬਹੁਤ ਹੈ ਅਤੇ ਫੈਲਿਆ ਹੋਇਆ ਹੈ ਅਤੇ ਅਸੀਂ ਸਾਰੇ ਸ਼ਹਿਰਪਨਾਹ ਉੱਤੇ ਖਿੱਲਰੇ ਹੋਏ ਹਾਂ ਅਤੇ ਇੱਕ ਦੂਜੇ ਤੋਂ ਦੂਰ ਹਾਂ,
20 in what place soever ye hear the sound of the horn, resort ye thither unto us; our God will fight for us.'
੨੦ਇਸ ਲਈ ਜਿੱਧਰੋਂ ਵੀ ਤੁਸੀਂ ਨਰਸਿੰਗੇ ਦੀ ਅਵਾਜ਼ ਸੁਣੋ ਉੱਥੇ ਹੀ ਸਾਡੇ ਕੋਲ ਇਕੱਠੇ ਹੋ ਜਾਇਓ। ਸਾਡਾ ਪਰਮੇਸ਼ੁਰ ਸਾਡੇ ਲਈ ਲੜੇਗਾ।”
21 So we wrought in the work; and half of them held the spears from the rising of the morning till the stars appeared.
੨੧ਇਸ ਤਰ੍ਹਾਂ ਅਸੀਂ ਕੰਮ ਕਰਦੇ ਰਹੇ, ਅਤੇ ਉਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਵਿੱਚੋਂ ਅੱਧੇ ਸੂਰਜ ਚੜ੍ਹਨ ਤੋਂ ਲੈ ਕੇ ਤਾਰਿਆਂ ਦੇ ਵਿਖਾਈ ਦੇਣ ਤੱਕ ਬਰਛੀਆਂ ਫੜ੍ਹੀ ਰੱਖਦੇ ਸਨ।
22 Likewise at the same time said I unto the people: 'Let every one with his servant lodge within Jerusalem, that in the night they may be a guard to us, and may labour in the day.'
੨੨ਫਿਰ ਉਸ ਸਮੇਂ ਮੈਂ ਲੋਕਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਇਹ ਵੀ ਕਿਹਾ, “ਹਰ ਇੱਕ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਆਪਣੇ ਸੇਵਕ ਸਮੇਤ ਯਰੂਸ਼ਲਮ ਵਿੱਚ ਰਾਤ ਕੱਟਿਆ ਕਰੇ ਤਾਂ ਜੋ ਉਹ ਰਾਤ ਨੂੰ ਸਾਡੇ ਲਈ ਪਹਿਰਾ ਦੇਣ ਅਤੇ ਦਿਨ ਨੂੰ ਕੰਮ ਕਰਨ।”
23 So neither I, nor my brethren, nor my servants, nor the men of the guard that followed me, none of us put off our clothes, every one that went to the water had his weapon.
੨੩ਇਸ ਤਰ੍ਹਾਂ ਨਾ ਤਾਂ ਮੈਂ ਆਪਣੇ ਕੱਪੜੇ ਲਾਹੁੰਦਾ ਸੀ, ਨਾ ਮੇਰੇ ਭਰਾ, ਨਾ ਮੇਰੇ ਜੁਆਨ ਅਤੇ ਨਾ ਉਹ ਲੋਕ ਜਿਹੜੇ ਰਾਖੀ ਕਰਨ ਲਈ ਮੇਰੇ ਨਾਲ ਸਨ, ਆਪਣੇ ਕੱਪੜੇ ਲਾਹੁੰਦੇ ਸਨ, ਇੱਥੋਂ ਤੱਕ ਕਿ ਹਰ ਇੱਕ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਪਾਣੀ ਲੈਣ ਲਈ ਵੀ ਆਪਣੇ ਹਥਿਆਰ ਨਾਲ ਰੱਖਦਾ ਸੀ।
