Nahum 3
1 Woe to the bloody city! It is all full of lies and rapine; the prey departeth not.
Malheur à la ville sanglante! Elle n'est que mensonges et rapines, et la proie est sans fin.
2 Hark! the whip, and hark! the rattling of the wheels; and prancing horses, and bounding chariots;
Le bruit du fouet, le bruit des roues, des chevaux cabrés, des chars bondissants,
3 The horseman charging, and the flashing sword, and the glittering spear; and a multitude of slain, and a heap of carcases; and there is no end of the corpses, and they stumble upon their corpses;
des cavaliers qui chargent, l'épée étincelante, la lance étincelante, une multitude de morts, un grand monceau de cadavres, et les cadavres n'en finissent pas. Ils trébuchent sur leurs corps
4 Because of the multitude of the harlotries of the well-favoured harlot, the mistress of witchcrafts, that selleth nations through her harlotries, and families through her witchcrafts.
à cause de la multitude de la prostitution de la séduisante prostituée, la maîtresse de la sorcellerie, qui vend des nations par sa prostitution, et des familles par sa sorcellerie.
5 Behold, I am against thee, saith the LORD of hosts, and I will uncover thy skirts upon thy face, and I will shew the nations thy nakedness, and the kingdoms thy shame.
« Voici, je suis contre toi, dit Yahvé des armées, et je lèverai tes jupes au-dessus de ton visage. Je montrerai aux nations ta nudité, Et aux royaumes ta honte.
6 And I will cast detestable things upon thee, and make thee vile, and will make thee as dung.
Je jetterai sur toi des souillures abominables, je te rendrai infâme, et je ferai de toi un spectacle.
7 And it shall come to pass, that all they that look upon thee shall flee from thee, and say: 'Nineveh is laid waste; who will bemoan her? whence shall I seek comforters for thee?'
Tous ceux qui te regarderont s'enfuiront loin de toi, et diront: « Ninive est dévastée! Qui la pleurera? Où chercherai-je pour vous des consolateurs? »
8 Art thou better than No-amon, that was situate among the rivers, that had the waters round about her; whose rampart was the sea, and of the sea her wall?
Vaux-tu mieux que No-Amon, qui était située parmi les fleuves, qui était entourée par les eaux, dont le rempart était la mer, et dont la muraille était la mer?
9 Ethiopia and Egypt were thy strength, and it was infinite; Put and Lubim were thy helpers.
Cush et l'Égypte étaient sa force illimitée. Put et la Libye étaient ses soutiens.
10 Yet was she carried away, she went into captivity; her young children also were dashed in pieces at the head of all the streets; and they cast lots for her honourable men, and all her great men were bound in chains.
Mais elle a été emportée. Elle est allée en captivité. On a écrasé ses petits enfants à la tête de toutes les rues, On a tiré au sort ses grands, Et tous ses grands ont été enchaînés.
11 Thou also shalt be drunken, thou shalt swoon; thou also shalt seek a refuge because of the enemy.
Vous aussi, vous serez ivres. Vous vous cacherez. Toi aussi, tu chercheras une forteresse à cause de l'ennemi.
12 All thy fortresses shall be like fig-trees with the first-ripe figs: if they be shaken, they fall into the mouth of the eater.
Toutes vos forteresses seront comme des figuiers avec les premières figues mûres. Si on les secoue, elles tombent dans la bouche de celui qui les mange.
13 Behold, thy people in the midst of thee are women; the gates of thy land are set wide open unto thine enemies; the fire hath devoured thy bars.
Voici, tes troupes au milieu de toi sont des femmes. Les portes de ton pays sont grandes ouvertes à tes ennemis. Le feu a dévoré tes barres.
14 Draw thee water for the siege, strengthen thy fortresses; go into the clay, and tread the mortar, lay hold of the brickmould.
Tirez de l'eau pour le siège. Renforcez vos forteresses. Entrez dans l'argile, et foulez le mortier. Fortifiez le four à briques.
15 There shall the fire devour thee; the sword shall cut thee off, it shall devour thee like the canker-worm; make thyself many as the canker-worm, make thyself many as the locusts.
Là, le feu vous dévorera, l'épée vous tranchera. L'épée te tranchera. Elle vous dévorera comme la sauterelle. Multipliez comme les sauterelles. Multipliez comme les sauterelles, Multipliez comme les criquets.
16 Thou hast multiplied thy merchants above the stars of heaven; the canker-worm spreadeth itself, and flieth away.
Vous avez multiplié vos marchands plus que les étoiles des cieux. La sauterelle se dépouille et s'enfuit.
17 Thy crowned are as the locusts, and thy marshals as the swarms of grasshoppers, which camp in the walls in the cold day, but when the sun ariseth they flee away, and their place is not known where they are.
Tes gardes sont comme les sauterelles, et tes fonctionnaires comme les essaims de sauterelles, qui se posent sur les murs par un jour froid, mais dès que le soleil paraît, ils s'enfuient, et on ne sait pas où ils sont.
18 Thy shepherds slumber, O king of Assyria, thy worthies are at rest; thy people are scattered upon the mountains, and there is none to gather them.
Tes bergers sommeillent, roi d'Assyrie. Tes nobles se couchent. Ton peuple est dispersé sur les montagnes, et il n'y a personne pour le rassembler.
19 There is no assuaging of thy hurt, thy wound is grievous; all that hear the report of thee clap the hands over thee; for upon whom hath not thy wickedness passed continually?
On ne peut pas guérir ta blessure, car ta blessure est mortelle. Tous ceux qui entendent parler de toi battent des mains sur toi, car qui n'a pas ressenti ta cruauté sans fin?
