Leviticus 25
1 And the LORD spoke unto Moses in mount Sinai, saying:
L’Éternel parla à Moïse au mont Sinaï, en ces termes:
2 Speak unto the children of Israel, and say unto them: When ye come into the land which I give you, then shall the land keep a sabbath unto the LORD.
"Parle aux enfants d’Israël et dis-leur: Quand vous serez entrés dans le pays que je vous donne, la terre sera soumise à un chômage en l’honneur de l’Éternel.
3 Six years thou shalt sow thy field, and six years thou shalt prune thy vineyard, and gather in the produce thereof.
Six années tu ensemenceras ton champ, six années tu travailleras ta vigne, et tu en recueilleras le produit;
4 But in the seventh year shall be a sabbath of solemn rest for the land, a sabbath unto the LORD; thou shalt neither sow thy field, nor prune thy vineyard.
mais, la septième année, un chômage absolu sera accordé à la terre, un sabbat en l’honneur de l’Éternel. Tu n’ensemenceras ton champ ni ne tailleras ta vigne.
5 That which groweth of itself of thy harvest thou shalt not reap, and the grapes of thy undressed vine thou shalt not gather; it shall be a year of solemn rest for the land.
Le produit spontané de ta moisson, tu ne le couperas point, et les raisins de ta vigne intacte, tu ne les vendangeras point: ce sera une année de chômage pour le sol.
6 And the sabbath-produce of the land shall be for food for you: for thee, and for thy servant and for thy maid, and for thy hired servant and for the settler by thy side that sojourn with thee;
Ce solen repos vous appartiendra à tous pour la consommation: à toi, à ton esclave, à ta servante, au mercenaire et à l’étranger qui habitent avec toi;
7 and for thy cattle, and for the beasts that are in thy land, shall all the increase thereof be for food.
ton bétail même, ainsi que les bêtes sauvages de ton pays, pourront se nourrir de tous ces produits.
8 And thou shalt number seven sabbaths of years unto thee, seven times seven years; and there shall be unto thee the days of seven sabbaths of years, even forty and nine years.
Tu compteras chez toi sept années sabbatiques, sept fois sept années, de sorte que la période de ces sept années sabbatiques te fera quarante-neuf ans;
9 Then shalt thou make proclamation with the blast of the horn on the tenth day of the seventh month; in the day of atonement shall ye make proclamation with the horn throughout all your land.
puis tu feras circuler le retentissement du cor, dans le septième mois, le dixième jour du mois: au jour des expiations, vous ferez retentir le son du cor à travers tout votre pays.
10 And ye shall hallow the fiftieth year, and proclaim liberty throughout the land unto all the inhabitants thereof; it shall be a jubilee unto you; and ye shall return every man unto his possession, and ye shall return every man unto his family.
Vous sanctifierez cette cinquantième année, en proclamant, dans le pays, la liberté pour tous ceux qui l’habitent: cette année sera pour vous le Jubilé, où chacun de vous rentrera dans son bien, où chacun retournera à sa famille.
11 A jubilee shall that fiftieth year be unto you; ye shall not sow, neither reap that which groweth of itself in it, nor gather the grapes in it of the undressed vines.
La cinquantième année est le Jubilé, elle le sera pour vous: vous ne sèmerez point, vous n’en couperez point les produits, ni n’en vendangerez les vignes intactes,
12 For it is a jubilee; it shall be holy unto you; ye shall eat the increase thereof out of the field.
parce que cette année est le jubilé et doit vous être une chose sainte. C’Est à même le champ que vous en mangerez le produit.
13 In this year of jubilee ye shall return every man unto his possession.
En cette année jubilaire, vous rentrerez chacun dans votre possession.
14 And if thou sell aught unto thy neighbour, or buy of thy neighbour's hand, ye shall not wrong one another.
Si donc tu fais une vente à ton prochain, ou si tu acquiers de sa main quelque chose, ne vous lésez point l’un l’autre.
15 According to the number of years after the jubilee thou shalt buy of thy neighbour, and according unto the number of years of the crops he shall sell unto thee.
C’Est en tenant compte des années écoulées depuis le Jubilé, que tu feras cet achat à ton prochain; c’est en tenant compte des années de récolte, qu’il doit te vendre.
16 According to the multitude of the years thou shalt increase the price thereof, and according to the fewness of the years thou shalt diminish the price of it; for the number of crops doth he sell unto thee.
Selon que ces années seront plus ou moins nombreuses, tu paieras plus ou moins cher la chose acquise; car c’est un nombre de récoltes qu’il te vend.
17 And ye shall not wrong one another; but thou shalt fear thy God; for I am the LORD your God.
Ne vous lésez point l’un l’autre, mais redoute ton Dieu! Car je suis l’Éternel votre Dieu.
18 Wherefore ye shall do My statutes, and keep Mine ordinances and do them; and ye shall dwell in the land in safety.
Exécutez mes édits, observez et pratiquez mes lois, et vous demeurerez dans le pays en sécurité.
19 And the land shall yield her fruit, and ye shall eat until ye have enough, and dwell therein in safety.
La terre donnera ses fruits, dont vous vous nourrirez abondamment, et vous y résiderez en toute quiétude.
20 And if ye shall say: 'What shall we eat the seventh year? behold, we may not sow, nor gather in our increase';
Que si vous dites: "Qu’aurons-nous à manger la septième année, puisque nous ne pouvons ni semer, ni rentrer nos récoltes?"
21 then I will command My blessing upon you in the sixth year, and it shall bring forth produce for the three years.
Je vous octroierai ma bénédiction dans la sixième année, tellement qu’elle produira la récolte de trois années;
22 And ye shall sow the eighth year, and eat of the produce, the old store; until the ninth year, until her produce come in, ye shall eat the old store.
et quand vous sèmerez la huitième année, vous vivrez sur la récolte antérieure: jusqu’à la neuvième année, jusqu’à ce que s’effectue sa récolte, vous vivrez sur l’ancienne.
23 And the land shall not be sold in perpetuity; for the land is Mine; for ye are strangers and settlers with Me.
Nulle terre ne sera aliénée irrévocablement, car la terre est à moi, car vous n’êtes que des étrangers domiciliés chez moi.
24 And in all the land of your possession ye shall grant a redemption for the land.
Et dans tout le pays que vous posséderez, vous accorderez le droit de rachat sur les terres.
25 If thy brother be waxen poor, and sell some of his possession, then shall his kinsman that is next unto him come, and shall redeem that which his brother hath sold.
Si ton frère, se trouvant dans la gêne, a vendu une partie de sa propriété, son plus proche parent aura la faculté de racheter ce qu’a vendu son frère.
26 And if a man have no one to redeem it, and he be waxen rich and find sufficient means to redeem it;
Quelqu’un dont personne n’a racheté le bien, mais qui retrouve des ressources suffisantes pour le racheter lui-même,
27 then let him count the years of the sale thereof, and restore the overplus unto the man to whom he sold it; and he shall return unto his possession.
supputera les années de la vente, rendra l’excédent à celui à qui il avait vendu, et rentrera dans son bien.
28 But if he have not sufficient means to get it back for himself, then that which he hath sold shall remain in the hand of him that hath bought it until the year of jubilee; and in the jubilee it shall go out, and he shall return unto his possession.
Que s’il n’a point de ressources suffisantes pour cette restitution, la chose vendue restera entre les mains de l’acquéreur jusqu’à l’année jubilaire; elle en sortira à cette époque, et l’autre en reprendra possession.
29 And if a man sell a dwelling-house in a walled city, then he may redeem it within a whole year after it is sold; for a full year shall he have the right of redemption.
Si quelqu’un vend une maison d’habitation située dans une ville murée, le droit de rachat durera jusqu’à la fin de l’année de la vente: pendant une année pleine cette faculté subsistera.
30 And if it be not redeemed within the space of a full year, then the house that is in the walled city shall be made sure in perpetuity to him that bought it, throughout his generations; it shall not go out in the jubilee.
Et si elle n’a pas été rachetée dans l’espace d’une année entière, cette maison sise dans une ville close de murs sera acquise définitivement à l’acheteur, pour lui et sa descendance; le Jubilé ne la dégagera point.
31 But the houses of the villages which have no wall round about them shall be reckoned with the fields of the country; they may be redeemed, and they shall go out in the jubilee.
Mais les maisons des villages non entourés de murs seront réputées une dépendance de la campagne, laquelle sera rachetable, et dégagée au Jubilé.
32 But as for the cities of the Levites, the houses of the cities of their possession, the Levites shall have a perpetual right of redemption.
Quant aux villes des Lévites, aux maisons situées dans les villes qu’ils possèdent, les Lévites auront toujours le droit de les racheter.
33 And if a man purchase of the Levites, then the house that was sold in the city of his possession, shall go out in the jubilee; for the houses of the cities of the Levites are their possession among the children of Israel.
Si même quelqu’un des Lévites l’a rachetée, la vente de cette maison ou de cette ville qu’il possède sera résiliée par le Jubilé; car les maisons situées dans les villes des Lévites sont leur propriété parmi les enfants d’Israël.
34 But the fields of the open land about their cities may not be sold; for that is their perpetual possession.
Une terre située dans la banlieue de leurs villes ne peut être vendue: elle est leur propriété inaliénable.
35 And if thy brother be waxen poor, and his means fail with thee; then thou shalt uphold him: as a stranger and a settler shall he live with thee.
Si ton frère vient à déchoir, si tu vois chanceler sa fortune, soutiens-le, fût-il étranger et nouveau venu, et qu’Il vive avec toi.
36 Take thou no interest of him or increase; but fear thy God; that thy brother may live with thee.
N’Accepte de sa part ni intérêt ni profit, mais crains ton Dieu, et que ton frère vive avec toi.
37 Thou shalt not give him thy money upon interest, nor give him thy victuals for increase.
Ne lui donne point ton argent à intérêt, ni tes aliments pour en tirer profit.
38 I am the LORD your God, who brought you forth out of the land of Egypt, to give you the land of Canaan, to be your God.
Je suis l’Éternel votre Dieu, qui vous ai fait sortir du pays d’Egypte pour vous donner celui de Canaan, pour devenir votre Dieu.
39 And if thy brother be waxen poor with thee, and sell himself unto thee, thou shalt not make him to serve as a bondservant.
Si ton frère, près de toi, réduit à la misère, se vend à toi, ne lui impose point le travail d’un esclave.
40 As a hired servant, and as a settler, he shall be with thee; he shall serve with thee unto the year of jubilee.
C’Est comme un mercenaire, comme un hôte, qu’il sera avec toi; il servira chez toi jusqu’à l’année du Jubilé.
41 Then shall he go out from thee, he and his children with him, and shall return unto his own family, and unto the possession of his fathers shall he return.
Alors il sortira de chez toi, lui ainsi que ses enfants; il retournera dans sa famille, et recouvrera le bien de ses pères.
42 For they are My servants, whom I brought forth out of the land of Egypt; they shall not be sold as bondmen.
Car ils sont mes esclaves, à moi, qui les ai fait sortir du pays d’Egypte; ils ne doivent pas être vendus à la façon des esclaves.
43 Thou shalt not rule over him with rigour; but shalt fear thy God.
Ne le régente point avec rigueur, crains d’offenser ton Dieu!
44 And as for thy bondmen, and thy bondmaids, whom thou mayest have: of the nations that are round about you, of them shall ye buy bondmen and bondmaids.
Ton esclave ou ta servante, que tu veux avoir en propre, doit provenir des peuples qui vous entourent; à ceux-là vous pouvez acheter esclaves et servantes.
45 Moreover of the children of the strangers that do sojourn among you, of them may ye buy, and of their families that are with you, which they have begotten in your land; and they may be your possession.
Vous pourrez en acheter encore parmi les enfants des étrangers qui viennent s’établir chez vous, et parmi leurs familles qui sont avec vous, qu’ils ont engendrées dans votre pays: ils pourront devenir votre propriété.
46 And ye may make them an inheritance for your children after you, to hold for a possession: of them may ye take your bondmen for ever; but over your brethren the children of Israel ye shall not rule, one over another, with rigour.
Vous pourrez les léguer à vos enfants pour qu’ils en prennent possession après vous, et les traiter perpétuellement en esclaves; mais sur vos frères les enfants d’Israël un frère sur un autre! Tu n’exerceras point sur eux une domination rigoureuse.
47 And if a stranger who is a settler with thee be waxen rich, and thy brother be waxen poor beside him, and sell himself unto the stranger who is a settler with thee, or to the offshoot of a stranger's family,
Si l’étranger, celui qui s’est établi près de toi, acquiert des moyens, et que ton frère, près de lui, devenu pauvre, se soit vendu à l’étranger établi près de toi, ou au rejeton d’une famille étrangère,
48 after that he is sold he may be redeemed; one of his brethren may redeem him;
après qu’il s’est vendu, le droit de rachat existe pour lui; l’un de ses frères donc le rachètera.
49 or his uncle, or his uncle's son, may redeem him, or any that is nigh of kin unto him of his family may redeem him; or if he be waxen rich, he may redeem himself.
Il sera racheté ou par son oncle ou par le fils de son oncle, ou par quelque autre de sa parenté, de sa famille; ou, s’il a acquis des moyens, il se rachètera lui-même.
50 And he shall reckon with him that bought him from the year that he sold himself to him unto the year of jubilee; and the price of his sale shall be according unto the number of years; according to the time of a hired servant shall he be with him.
Il calculera, avec son acquéreur, l’intervalle entre l’année où il s’est vendu à lui et l’année du Jubilé; le prix de sa vente sera comparé au chiffre des années, qui seront considérées à son égard comme le temps d’un mercenaire.
51 If there be yet many years, according unto them he shall give back the price of his redemption out of the money that he was bought for.
S’Il y a encore un grand nombre d’années, il rendra pour son rachat, sur le prix de son acquisition, une somme équivalente;
52 And if there remain but few years unto the year of jubilee, then he shall reckon with him; according unto his years shall he give back the price of his redemption.
et de même, s’il reste un petit nombre d’années jusqu’à l’an jubilaire, il lui en tiendra compte: c’est à proportion des années qu’il paiera son rachat.
53 As a servant hired year by year shall he be with him; he shall not rule with rigour over him in thy sight.
Qu’il soit chez lui comme le mercenaire loué à l’année: qu’on ne le régente point avec dureté, toi présent.
54 And if he be not redeemed by any of these means, then he shall go out in the year of jubilee, he, and his children with him.
Et s’il n’a pas été racheté par ces voies, il sortira libre à l’époque du jubilé, lui, et ses enfants avec lui.
55 For unto Me the children of Israel are servants; they are My servants whom I brought forth out of the land of Egypt: I am the LORD your God.
Car c’est à moi que les Israélites appartiennent comme esclaves; ce sont mes serfs à moi, qui les ai tirés du pays d’Egypte, moi, l’Éternel, votre Dieu!"
