Judges 20
1 Then all the children of Israel went out, and the congregation was assembled as one man, from Dan even to Beer-sheba, with the land of Gilead, unto the LORD at Mizpah.
१नंतर दान प्रदेशापासून बैर-शेबा शहरापर्यंतचे व गिलाद देशातले सर्व इस्राएली लोक बाहेर आले आणि ते एक मनाचे होऊन परमेश्वराजवळ मिस्पा येथे एकत्र जमा झाले.
2 And the chiefs of all the people, even of all the tribes of Israel, presented themselves in the assembly of the people of God, four hundred thousand footmen that drew sword. —
२इस्राएलाच्या सर्व वंशांच्या लोकांचे पुढारी, यांनी देवाच्या लोकांच्या मंडळीत आपले स्थान घेतले, सुमारे चार लाख पायदळ, जे तलवारीने लढण्यास तयार होते.
3 Now the children of Benjamin heard that the children of Israel were gone up to Mizpah. — And the children of Israel said: 'Tell us, how was this wickedness brought to pass?'
३आता बन्यामिनी लोकांनी ऐकले की, इस्राएल लोक मिस्पात नगरात जमले आहेत. तेव्हा इस्राएलाचे लोक म्हणाले, “आम्हांला सांगा, ही वाईट गोष्ट कशी घडली?”
4 And the Levite, the husband of the woman that was murdered, answered and said: 'I came into Gibeah that belongeth to Benjamin, I and my concubine, to lodge.
४तो लेवी, ज्याच्या पत्नीचा खून झाला होता तिच्या पतीने उत्तर देऊन म्हटले, “मी आणि माझी उपपत्नी बन्यामिनाच्या प्रदेशातील गिबा येथे रात्र घालवण्यासाठी येऊन उतरलो.
5 And the men of Gibeah rose against me, and beset the house round about upon me by night; me they thought to have slain, and my concubine they forced, and she is dead.
५गिबातल्या लोकांनी रात्री माझ्यावर हल्ला करण्यासाठी घराच्या सभोवताली वेढा दिला आणि मला मारण्याचा त्यांचा हेतू होता. त्यांनी माझ्या उपपत्नीवर बलात्कार केला आणि ती मरण पावली.
6 And I took my concubine, and cut her in pieces, and sent her throughout all the country of the inheritance of Israel; for they have committed lewdness and wantonness in Israel.
६मी आपल्या उपपत्नीला घेऊन तिच्या शरीराचे तुकडे तुकडे केले, आणि ते इस्राएलाच्या वतन भागातील सर्व प्रांतांत पाठवले. कारण, त्यांनी इस्राएलात दुष्टपणा आणि बलात्कार केला आहे.
7 Behold, ye are all here, children of Israel, give here your advice and council.'

8 And all the people arose as one man, saying: 'We will not any of us go to his tent, neither will we any of us turn unto his house.

9 But now this is the thing which we will do to Gibeah: we will go up against it by lot;

10 and we will take ten men of a hundred throughout all the tribes of Israel, and a hundred of a thousand, and a thousand out of ten thousand, to fetch victuals for the people, that they may do, when they come to Gibeah of Benjamin, according to all the wantonness that they have wrought in Israel.'
१०आम्ही इस्राएलाच्या सर्व वंशांतून शंभरातली दहा माणसे व हजारातून शंभर, व दहा हजारातून एक हजार, इतकी माणसे निवडू. ती या लोकांसाठी अन्नसामग्री आणतील, म्हणजे मग ते जाऊन बन्यामिनाच्या गिब्याने इस्राएलात जे दुष्टपण केले, त्यानुसार त्यांना शिक्षा करतील.”
11 So all the men of Israel were gathered against the city, knit together as one man.
११मग इस्राएलातले सर्व सैन्य एका उद्देशाने एकत्र येऊन त्या नगराविरुद्ध जमले.
12 And the tribes of Israel sent men through all the tribe of Benjamin, saying: 'What wickedness is this that is come to pass among you?
१२तेव्हा इस्राएल लोकांनी बन्यामिनाच्या सर्व वंशांत माणसे पाठवून विचारले, “तुमच्यामध्ये हे काय दुष्टपण घडले आहे?
13 Now therefore deliver up the men, the base fellows that are in Gibeah, that we may put them to death, and put away evil from Israel.' But the children of Benjamin would not hearken to the voice of their brethren the children of Israel.
१३तर आता तुम्ही गिब्यांतली जे दुष्ट लोक आहेत ते आम्हांला काढून द्या, म्हणजे आम्ही त्यांना जीवे मारू आणि इस्राएलातून दुष्टाई पूर्णपणे काढून टाकू.” परंतु बन्यामिनी लोकांनी आपले भाऊबंद इस्राएली लोक यांचे ऐकले नाही.
14 And the children of Benjamin gathered themselves together out of their cities unto Gibeah, to go out to battle against the children of Israel.
१४आणि बन्यामिनी लोक इस्राएली लोकांविरुद्ध लढावयास आपल्या नगरांतून गिब्याजवळ जमा झाले.
15 And the children of Benjamin numbered on that day out of the cities twenty and six thousand men that drew sword, besides the inhabitants of Gibeah, who numbered seven hundred chosen men.
१५त्या दिवशी बन्यामिनी लोकांनी आपल्या नगरांतून तलवारीने लढाई करण्याचे शिक्षण घेऊन तयार झालेले सव्वीस हजार सैन्य बरोबर घेतले; त्यामध्ये गिब्यात राहणाऱ्या त्या सातशे निवडक पुरुषांची भर घातली.
16 All this people, even seven hundred chosen men, were left-handed; every one could sling stones at a hair-breadth, and not miss.
१६त्या सर्व लोकांतले हे सातशे निवडलेले पुरुष डावखुरे होते; त्यांच्या प्रत्येकाचा गोफणीच्या गोट्याचा नेम एक केसभर देखील चुकत नसे.
17 And the men of Israel, beside Benjamin, numbered four hundred thousand men that drew sword; all these were men of war.
१७बन्यामिनी सोडून, एकंदर इस्राएली सैन्य चार लाख माणसे, तलवारीने लढण्याचे शिक्षण घेऊन तयार झालेले होते. ते सर्व लढाऊ पुरुष होते.
18 And the children of Israel arose, and went up to Beth-el, and asked counsel of God; and they said: 'Who shall go up for us first to battle against the children of Benjamin?' And the LORD said: 'Judah first.'
१८मग इस्राएल लोक उठून बेथेलापर्यंत गेले, आणि त्यांनी देवापासून सल्ला विचारला. त्यांनी विचारले, “बन्यामिनी लोकांशी लढायला आमच्यातून पहिल्याने कोणी जावे?” परमेश्वर देवाने सांगितले, “यहूदाने पहिल्याने जावे.”
19 And the children of Israel rose up in the morning, and encamped against Gibeah.
१९इस्राएली लोक सकाळी उठले आणि त्यांनी गिब्यासमोर लढाईची तयारी केली.
20 And the men of Israel went out to battle against Benjamin; and the men of Israel set the battle in array against them at Gibeah.
२०मग इस्राएली सैन्य बन्यामिन्यांविरुद्ध लढायला बाहेर गेले, त्यांनी त्यांच्या विरुद्ध गिबा या ठिकाणी लढाईची व्यूहरचना केली.
21 And the children of Benjamin came forth out of Gibeah, and destroyed down to the ground of the Israelites on that day twenty and two thousand men.
२१तेव्हा बन्यामिनी सैन्याने गिब्यातून निघून आणि त्या दिवशी इस्राएली सैन्यातील बावीस हजार मनुष्यांना मारले.
22 And the people, the men of Israel, encouraged themselves, and set the battle again in array in the place where they set themselves in array the first day.
२२तथापि इस्राएली सैन्याने पुन्हा शक्तीशाली होऊन जेथे त्यांनी पहिल्या दिवशी लढाई लावली होती, त्या ठिकाणीच व्यूहरचना केली.
23 And the children of Israel went up and wept before the LORD until even; and they asked of the LORD, saying: 'Shall I again draw nigh to battle against the children of Benjamin my brother?' And the LORD said: 'Go up against him.'
२३आणि इस्राएली लोक वर गेले आणि परमेश्वरासमोर संध्याकाळपर्यंत रडले. आणि त्यांनी परमेश्वरास विचारले, “आमचा बंधू बन्यामीन याच्या लोकांशी लढण्यास मी पुन्हा जावे काय?” परमेश्वर म्हणाला, “त्यांच्यावर हल्ला करा.”
24 And the children of Israel came near against the children of Benjamin the second day.
२४म्हणून दुसऱ्या दिवशी इस्राएली सैन्य बन्यामिनी सैन्याविरुद्ध चालून गेले.
25 And Benjamin went forth against them out of Gibeah the second day, and destroyed down to the ground of the children of Israel again eighteen thousand men; all these drew the sword.
२५दुसऱ्या दिवशी, बन्यामिनी लोक गिब्यातून त्यांच्याविरुद्ध बाहेर आले, आणि त्यांनी इस्राएली सैन्यातील अठरा हजार मनुष्यांना मारले, हे सर्व तलवारीने लढाईचे शिक्षण घेतलेले होते.
26 Then all the children of Israel, and all the people, went up, and came unto Beth-el, and wept, and sat there before the LORD, and fasted that day until even; and they offered burnt-offerings and peace-offerings before the LORD.
२६नंतर सर्व इस्राएली सैन्य आणि सर्व लोक चढून बेथेल येथे गेले आणि रडले, आणि त्यांनी तेथे परमेश्वर देवासमोर बसले. त्यांनी त्या दिवशी संध्याकाळपर्यंत उपास केला, आणि परमेश्वरास होमार्पण व शांत्यर्पणे अर्पण केले.
27 And the children of Israel asked of the LORD — for the ark of the covenant of God was there in those days,
२७आणि इस्राएली लोकांनी परमेश्वर देवाला विचारले, कारण त्या दिवसात देवाच्या कराराचा कोश तेथे होता.
28 and Phinehas, the son of Eleazar, the son of Aaron, stood before it in those days — saying: 'Shall I yet again go out to battle against the children of Benjamin my brother, or shall I cease?' And the LORD said: 'Go up; for to-morrow I will deliver him into thy hand.'
२८आणि अहरोनाचा पुत्र एलाजार याचा पुत्र फिनहास त्या दिवसात त्याची सेवा करत होता. “आम्ही आपला बंधू बन्यामीन याच्या लोकांविरुद्ध लढण्यास परत जावे काय किंवा थांबावे?” तेव्हा परमेश्वर देव म्हणाला, “तुम्ही चढून जा; कारण उद्या मी तुम्हाला त्यांचा पराजय करण्यास मदत करीन.”
29 And Israel set liers-in-wait against Gibeah round about.
२९मग इस्राएल लोकांनी गिब्याच्या भोवताली गुप्तस्थळी माणसे ठेवली.
30 And the children of Israel went up against the children of Benjamin on the third day, and set themselves in array against Gibeah, as at other times.
३०मग तिसऱ्या दिवशी इस्राएली लोक बन्यामिनाच्या लोकांविरुद्ध लढले, आणि पूर्वीप्रमाणे त्यांनी गिब्याजवळ व्यूहरचना केली.
31 And the children of Benjamin went out against the people, and were drawn away from the city; and they began to smite and kill of the people, as at other times, in the field, in the highways, of which one goeth up to Beth-el, and the other to Gibeah, about thirty men of Israel.
३१तेव्हा बन्यामीनी लोक गेले आणि इस्राएल लोकांविरूद्ध लढले आणि त्यांना नगरापासून काढून घेऊन दूर नेण्यात आले. त्यांनी काही लोकांस मारण्यास सुरवात केली. त्यातला एक रस्ता बेथेलास आणि दुसरा गिब्याकडे जातो, त्यामध्ये इस्राएलांपैकी सुमारे तीस पुरुष शेतात त्यांनी मारले;
32 And the children of Benjamin said: 'They are smitten down before us, as at the first.' But the children of Israel said: 'Let us flee, and draw them away from the city unto the highways.'
३२बन्यामिनी लोकांनी म्हटले, “त्यांचा पराजय झाला आहे, आणि पहिल्यासारखे ते आमच्यापुढून पळून जात आहेत.” परंतु इस्राएली सैन्य म्हणाले, “आपण मागे पळू आणि त्यांना नगरातल्या रस्त्या पासून दूर काढून आणू.”
33 And all the men of Israel rose up out of their place, and set themselves in array at Baal-tamar; and the liers-in-wait of Israel broke forth out of their place, even out of Maareh-geba.
३३सर्व इस्राएली सैन्य त्यांच्या जागेवरून उठले आणि त्यांनी बआल-तामार येथे लढाईसाठी व्यूहरचना केली. नंतर जे इस्राएली सैन्य गुप्तस्थळीं लपून बसले होते ते आपल्या जागेवरून, मारे गिबा येथून अचानक उठले.
34 And there came over against Gibeah ten thousand chosen men out of all Israel, and the battle was sore; but they knew not that evil was close upon them.
३४सर्व इस्राएलातले निवडलेले दहा हजार पुरुष गिब्यापुढे आले आणि भयंकर लढाई झाली, तथापि बन्यामिन्यांना समजले नव्हते की, आपत्ती आपल्याजवळ येऊन ठेपली आहे.
35 And the LORD smote Benjamin before Israel; and the children of Israel destroyed of Benjamin that day twenty and five thousand and a hundred men; all these drew the sword.
३५तेव्हा परमेश्वर देवाने बन्यामिनाला इस्राएलापुढे पराजित केले. त्या दिवशी बन्यामिन्यांचे पंचवीस हजार शंभर पुरुष मारले गेले. त्या सर्वांना तलवारीने लढण्याचे शिक्षण देण्यात आले होते.
36 So the children of Benjamin saw that they were smitten. And the men of Israel gave place to Benjamin, because they trusted unto the liers-in-wait whom they had set against Gibeah. —
३६बन्यामिनी लोकांनी पाहिले की आपण पराजित झालो आहोत. हे असे झाले की इस्राएली मनुष्यांनी गिब्यावर जे दबा धरून ठेवले होते, त्यांचा भरवसा धरला म्हणून ती बन्यामिनी मनुष्यांपुढून बाजूला झाली.
37 And the liers-in-wait hastened, and rushed upon Gibeah; and the liers-in-wait drew forth, and smote all the city with the edge of the sword.
३७नंतर दबा धरून बसणारे उठले आणि पटकन ते गिब्यात गेले आणि त्यांनी त्यांच्या तलवारीने नगरात राहणाऱ्या प्रत्येकाला ठार मारले.
38 Now there was an appointed sign between the men of Israel and the liers-in-wait, that they should make a great beacon of smoke rise up out of the city. —
३८आता दबा धरणारे आणि इस्राएली सैन्यात सांकेतिक खूण ठरली होती की त्यांनी नगरातून उंच धुराचा उंच लोळ चढवावा.
39 And the men of Israel turned in the battle, and Benjamin began to smite and kill of the men of Israel about thirty persons; for they said: 'Surely they are smitten down before us, as in the first battle.'
३९आणि इस्राएली सैन्य लढाईत मागे फिरू लागले; आता बन्यामिन्याने हल्ल्याला सुरवात केली आणि इस्राएलांतली सुमारे तीस माणसे मारली. आणि त्यांनी म्हटले, “खात्रीने पाहिल्या लढाईसारखे ते आमच्यापुढे पराजित झालेत.”
40 But when the beacon began to arise up out of the city in a pillar of smoke, the Benjamites looked behind them, and, behold, the whole of the city went up in smoke to heaven.
४०परंतु नगरातून धुराचा लोळ उंच चढू लागला, तेव्हा बन्यामिन्यांनी आपल्या पाठीमागे वळून पाहिले आणि संपूर्ण नगरातून धुराचा लोळ आकाशात चढत असल्याचे त्यांना दिसले.
41 And the men of Israel turned, and the men of Benjamin were amazed; for they saw that evil was come upon them.
४१नंतर इस्राएली सैन्य मागे उलटून त्यांच्यावर हल्ला चढवला. बन्यामिनी माणसे फार घाबरली, कारण त्यांनी पाहिले की, आपल्यावर अरिष्ट आले आहे, हे त्यांच्या लक्षात आले.
42 Therefore they turned their backs before the men of Israel unto the way of the wilderness; but the battle followed hard after them; and they that came out of the city destroyed them in the midst of the men of Israel.
४२यास्तव ते इस्राएलाच्या सैन्यापुढून रानाच्या वाटेने निसटून पळाले; तथापि लढाईने त्यांना गाठले. इस्राएलाच्या सैन्याने बाहेर येऊन, जेथे कोठे ते गावातून बाहेर निघाले होते तेथे त्यांना मारले.
43 They inclosed the Benjamites round about, and chased them, and overtook them at their resting-place, as far as over against Gibeah toward the sunrising.
४३त्यांनी बन्यामिन्यांना चोहोकडून वेढले आणि नोहा येथपासून ते त्यांच्या पाठीस लागले; त्यांनी गिब्यासमोर पूर्वेकडे त्यांना पायदळी तुडवून मारले.
44 And there fell of Benjamin eighteen thousand men; all these were men of valour.
४४बन्यामिनातले अठरा हजार सैनिक मारले गेले; ती सर्व माणसे लढाईत पटाईत होती.
45 And they turned and fled toward the wilderness unto the rock of Rimmon; and they gleaned of them in the highways five thousand men; and followed hard after them unto Gidom, and smote of them two thousand men.
४५जे मागे फिरले ते रानात रिम्मोन खडकाकडे पळून गेले. तथापि त्यांनी त्यातले पाच हजार पुरुष रस्त्यावर वेचून मारले, आणि गिदोमापर्यंत त्यांचा पाठलाग करून त्यातले दोन हजार पुरुष आणखी मारले.
46 So that all who fell that day of Benjamin were twenty and five thousand men that drew the sword; all these were men of valour.
४६त्या दिवशी बन्यामिनातले जे सर्व पडले ते तलवारीने लढाईचे शिक्षण घेतलेले आणि अनुभवी असे पंचवीस हजार पुरुष होते; ते सर्व लढाईत प्रसिद्ध शूर लोक होते.
47 But six hundred men turned and fled toward the wilderness unto the rock of Rimmon, and abode in the rock of Rimmon four months.
४७परंतु सहाशे पुरुष फिरून रानात रिम्मोन खडकावर पळून गेले. आणि ते रिम्मोन खडकावर चार महिने राहिले.
48 And the men of Israel turned back upon the children of Benjamin, and smote them with the edge of the sword, both the entire city, and the cattle, and all that they found; moreover all the cities which they found they set on fire.
४८नंतर इस्राएली सैन्यांनी मागे फिरून बन्यामिनी लोकांवर हल्ला केला आणि नगरातली सर्व माणसे व गुरेढोरे आणि जे काही त्यांना सापडले ती प्रत्येक गोष्ट त्यांनी तलवारीने मारली, आणि त्यांच्या मार्गातील प्रत्येक नगर त्यांनी आग लावून जाळून टाकले.
