Judges 15
1 But it came to pass after a while, in the time of wheat harvest, that Samson visited his wife with a kid; and he said: 'I will go in to my wife into the chamber.' But her father would not suffer him to go in.
কিছুকাল পর, গম কাটার মরশুমে, শিম্শোন একটি ছাগশাবক নিয়ে তাঁর স্ত্রীর সঙ্গে দেখা করতে গেলেন। তিনি বললেন, “আমি আমার স্ত্রীর ঘরে যাচ্ছি।” কিন্তু তাঁর স্ত্রীর বাবা শিম্শোনকে ভিতরে ঢুকতে দিলেন না।
2 And her father said: 'I verily thought that thou hadst utterly hated her; therefore I gave her to thy companion; is not her younger sister fairer than she? take her, I pray thee, instead of her.'
“আমি এত নিশ্চিত ছিলাম যে তুমি তাকে ঘৃণা করো,” তিনি বললেন, “আমি তাকে তোমার সহচরের সঙ্গে বিয়ে দিয়েছি। তার ছোটো বোন কি তার চেয়েও বেশি সুন্দরী নয়? তার পরিবর্তে বরং তুমি তার বোনকেই বিয়ে করো।”
3 And Samson said unto them: 'This time shall I be quits with the Philistines, when I do them a mischief.'
শিম্শোন তাদের বললেন, “এবার আমি ফিলিস্তিনীদের বিরুদ্ধে প্রতিশোধ নেওয়ার সুযোগ পেয়েছি; আমি সত্যিই তাদের ক্ষতি করব।”
4 And Samson went and caught three hundred foxes, and took torches, and turned tail to tail, and put a torch in the midst between every two tails.
অতএব তিনি বাইরে গিয়ে 300-টি শিয়াল ধরলেন এবং জোড়ায় জোড়ায় সেগুলির লেজ বেঁধে দিলেন। এরপর তিনি প্রত্যেক জোড়া লেজে একটি করে মশাল বেঁধে দিলেন,
5 And when he had set the torches on fire, he let them go into the standing corn of the Philistines, and burnt up both the shocks and the standing corn, and also the oliveyards.
মশালগুলি জ্বালিয়ে দিলেন এবং শিয়ালগুলিকে ফিলিস্তিনীদের ফসলের ক্ষেতে ছেড়ে দিলেন। তিনি দ্রাক্ষাক্ষেত ও জলপাই বাগান সুদ্ধ আঁটি বাঁধা ফসল এবং না কাটা ফসল, সব পুড়িয়ে দিলেন।
6 Then the Philistines said: 'Who hath done this?' And they said: 'Samson, the son-in-law of the Timnite, because he hath taken his wife, and given her to his companion.' And the Philistines came up, and burnt her and her father with fire.
ফিলিস্তিনীরা যখন জিজ্ঞাসা করল, “কে এই কাজ করেছে?” তখন তাদের বলা হল, “সেই তিম্নীয় লোকটির জামাই শিম্শোন এ কাজ করেছে, কারণ তার স্ত্রীকে তার সহচরের হাতে তুলে দেওয়া হয়েছে।” তখন ফিলিস্তিনীরা গিয়ে সেই মহিলা ও তার বাবাকে আগুনে পুড়িয়ে মারল।
7 And Samson said unto them: 'If ye do after this manner, surely I will be avenged of you, and after that I will cease.'
শিম্শোন তাদের বললেন, “যেহেতু তোমরা এরকম কাজ করেছ, তাই আমি শপথ নিচ্ছি যে তোমাদের উপর প্রতিশোধ না নেওয়া পর্যন্ত আমি ক্ষান্ত হব না।”
8 And he smote them hip and thigh with a great slaughter; and he went down and dwelt in the cleft of the rock of Etam.
তিনি তাদের উপর ভয়ংকর আক্রমণ শানালেন এবং বহু মানুষজনকে হত্যা করলেন। পরে তিনি সেখান থেকে চলে গিয়ে ঐটম পাষাণ-পাথরের একটি গুহায় বসবাস করতে লাগলেন।
9 Then the Philistines went up, and pitched in Judah, and spread themselves against Lehi.
ফিলিস্তিনীরা গিয়ে যিহূদা দেশে শিবির স্থাপন করল এবং লিহীর কাছে ছড়িয়ে পড়ল।
10 And the men of Judah said: 'Why are ye come up against us?' And they said: 'To bind Samson are we come up, to do to him as he hath done to us.'
যিহূদা গোষ্ঠীভুক্ত লোকেরা তাদের জিজ্ঞাসা করল, “তোমরা কেন আমাদের সঙ্গে যুদ্ধ করতে এসেছ?” “আমরা শিম্শোনকে বন্দি করে নিয়ে যেতে এসেছি,” তারা উত্তর দিল, “সে আমাদের প্রতি যা করেছে, আমরাও তার প্রতি তেমনই করব।”
11 Then three thousand men of Judah went down to the cleft of the rock of Etam, and said to Samson: 'Knowest thou not that the Philistines are rulers over us? what then is this that thou hast done unto us?' And he said unto them: 'As they did unto me, so have I done unto them.'
পরে যিহূদা দেশ থেকে 3,000 লোক এসে ঐটমের পাষাণ-পাথরের গুহায় নেমে গিয়ে শিম্শোনকে বলল, “তুমি কি বুঝতে পারছ না যে ফিলিস্তিনীরা আমাদের উপরে রাজত্ব করছে? আমাদের প্রতি তুমি এ কী করলে?” শিম্শোন উত্তর দিলেন, “তারা আমার প্রতি যা করেছে, আমিও তাদের প্রতি শুধু সেরকমই করেছি।”
12 And they said unto him: 'We are come down to bind thee, that we may deliver thee into the hand of the Philistines.' And Samson said unto them: 'Swear unto me, that ye will not fall upon me yourselves.'
তারা তাঁকে বলল, “আমরা তোমাকে বেঁধে ফিলিস্তিনীদের হাতে সমর্পণ করে দিতে এসেছি।” শিম্শোন বললেন, “আমার কাছে শপথ করো যে তোমরা নিজেরাই আমাকে হত্যা করবে না?”
13 And they spoke unto him, saying: 'No; but we will bind thee fast, and deliver thee into their hand; but surely we will not kill thee.' And they bound him with two new ropes, and brought him up from the rock.
“ঠিক আছে,” তারা উত্তর দিল, “আমরা শুধু তোমাকে বেঁধে নিয়ে গিয়ে তাদের হাতে সমর্পণ করে দেব। আমরা তোমাকে হত্যা করব না।” অতএব তারা দুই গাছা নতুন দড়ি দিয়ে শিম্শোনকে বাঁধল এবং সেই পাষাণ-পাথর থেকে তাঁকে নিয়ে গেল।
14 When he came unto Lehi, the Philistines shouted as they met him; and the spirit of the LORD came mightily upon him, and the ropes that were upon his arms became as flax that was burnt with fire, and his bands dropped from off his hands.
তিনি লিহীর কাছাকাছি আসতে না আসতেই, ফিলিস্তিনীরা চিৎকার করতে করতে তাঁর দিকে ছুটে এল। সদাপ্রভুর আত্মা সপরাক্রমে তাঁর উপরে নেমে এলেন। তাঁর হাতের দড়ি পোড়া শণের মতো হয়ে গেল, এবং হাত দুটি থেকে বাঁধনগুলি খসে পড়ল।
15 And he found a new jawbone of an ass, and put forth his hand, and took it, and smote a thousand men therewith.
গাধার চোয়ালের একটি টাটকা হাড় পেয়ে, তিনি সেটি হাতে তুলে নিলেন এবং সেটি দিয়ে 1,000 লোককে আঘাত করে হত্যা করলেন।
16 And Samson said: With the jawbone of an ass, heaps upon heaps, with the jawbone of an ass have I smitten a thousand men.
পরে শিম্শোন বললেন, “গাধার চোয়ালের হাড় দিয়ে আমি তাদের গাধা বানালাম। গাধার চোয়ালের হাড় দিয়ে আমি 1,000 লোক মারলাম।”
17 And it came to pass, when he had made an end of speaking, that he cast away the jawbone out of his hand; and that place was called Ramath-lehi.
কথা বলা শেষ করে, তিনি গাধার চোয়ালের হাড়টি ছুঁড়ে ফেলে দিলেন; এবং সেই স্থানটির নাম রাখা হল রামৎ-লিহী।
18 And he was sore athirst, and called on the LORD, and said: 'Thou hast given this great deliverance by the hand of Thy servant; and now shall I die for thirst, and fall into the hand of the uncircumcised?'
যেহেতু তিনি খুব তৃষ্ণার্ত হয়ে পড়েছিলেন, তাই তিনি সদাপ্রভুকে ডেকে বললেন, “তুমি তোমার দাসকে এই মহাবিজয় দান করেছ। এখন কি আমাকে পিপাসায় মরতে হবে এবং ওই সুন্নতবিহীন লোকদের হাতে গিয়ে পড়তে হবে?”
19 But God cleaved the hollow place that is in Lehi, and there came water thereout; and when he had drunk, his spirit came back, and he revived; wherefore the name thereof was called En-hakkore, which is in Lehi unto this day.
তখন ঈশ্বর লিহীতে একটি গর্ত খুঁড়ে দিলেন, এবং সেখান থেকে জল বের হয়ে এল। শিম্শোন যখন সেই জলপান করলেন, তখন তাঁর শক্তি ফিরে এল এবং তিনি চাঙ্গা হয়ে গেলেন। তাই সেই জলের উৎসের নাম রাখা হল ঐন-হক্কোরী, এবং আজও পর্যন্ত লিহীতে সেটি অবস্থিত আছে।
20 And he judged Israel in the days of the Philistines twenty years.
ফিলিস্তিনীদের সময়কালে শিম্শোন কুড়ি বছর ইস্রায়েলীদের নেতৃত্ব দিলেন।
