Job 4
1 Then answered Eliphaz the Temanite, and said:
Então respondeu Eliphaz o temanita, e disse:
2 If one venture a word unto thee, wilt thou be weary? But who can withhold himself from speaking?
Se intentarmos fallar-te, enfadar-te-has? mas quem poderia conter as palavras?
3 Behold, thou hast instructed many, and thou hast strengthened the weak hands.
Eis que ensinaste a muitos, e esforçaste as mãos fracas.
4 Thy words have upholden him that was falling, and thou hast strengthened the feeble knees.
As tuas palavras levantaram os que tropeçavam e os joelhos desfallecentes fortificaste.
5 But now it is come upon thee, and thou art weary; it toucheth thee, and thou art affrighted.
Mas agora a ti te vem, e te enfadas: e, tocando-te a ti, te perturbas.
6 Is not thy fear of God thy confidence, and thy hope the integrity of thy ways?
Porventura não era o teu temor de Deus a tua confiança, e a tua esperança a sinceridade dos teus caminhos?
7 Remember, I pray thee, who ever perished, being innocent? Or where were the upright cut off?
Lembra-te agora qual é o innocente que jamais perecesse? e onde foram os sinceros destruidos?
8 According as I have seen, they that plow iniquity, and sow mischief, reap the same.
Como eu tenho visto, os que lavram iniquidade, e semeam trabalho segam o mesmo.
9 By the breath of God they perish, and by the blast of His anger are they consumed.
Com o bafo de Deus perecem; e com o assopro da sua ira se consomem.
10 The lion roareth, and the fierce lion howleth — yet the teeth of the young lions are broken.
O bramido do leão, e a voz do leão feroz, e os dentes dos leõezinhos se quebrantam.
11 The old lion perisheth for lack of prey, and the whelps of the lioness are scattered abroad.
Perece o leão velho, porque não ha preza; e os filhos da leoa andam esparzidos.
12 Now a word was secretly brought to me, and mine ear received a whisper thereof.
Uma palavra se me disse em segredo; e os meus ouvidos perceberam um sussurro d'ella.
13 In thoughts from the visions of the night, when deep sleep falleth on men,
Entre imaginações de visões da noite, quando cae sobre os homens o somno profundo;
14 Fear came upon me, and trembling, and all my bones were made to shake.
Sobreveiu-me o espanto e o tremor, e todos os meus ossos estremeceram.
15 Then a spirit passed before my face, that made the hair of my flesh to stand up.
Então um espirito passou por diante de mim; fez-me arrepiar os cabellos da minha carne;
16 It stood still, but I could not discern the appearance thereof; a form was before mine eyes; I heard a still voice:
Parou elle, porém não conheci a sua feição; um vulto estava diante dos meus olhos: e, calando-me, ouvi uma voz que dizia:
17 'Shall mortal man be just before God? Shall a man be pure before his Maker?
Seria porventura o homem mais justo do que Deus? seria porventura o varão mais puro do que o seu Creador?
18 Behold, He putteth no trust in His servants, and His angels He chargeth with folly;
Eis-que nos seus servos não confiaria, e aos seus anjos imputaria loucura:
19 How much more them that dwell in houses of clay, whose foundation is in the dust, who are crushed before the moth!
Quanto menos n'aquelles que habitam em casas de lodo, cujo fundamento está no pó, e são machucados como a traça!
20 Betwixt morning and evening they are shattered; they perish for ever without any regarding it.
Desde a manhã até á tarde são despedaçados: e eternamente perecem sem que d'isso se faça caso.
21 Is not their tent-cord plucked up within them? They die, and that without wisdom.'
Porventura se não passa com elles a sua excellencia? morrem, porém sem sabedoria.
