Job 38
1 Then the LORD answered Job out of the whirlwind, and said:
Depois d'isto o Senhor respondeu a Job d'um redemoinho, e disse:
2 Who is this that darkeneth counsel by words without knowledge?
Quem é este que escurece o conselho com palavras sem conhecimento?
3 Gird up now thy loins like a man; for I will demand of thee, and declare thou unto Me.
Agora cinge os teus lombos, como homem; e perguntar-te-hei, e tu me ensina.
4 Where wast thou when I laid the foundations of the earth? Declare, if thou hast the understanding.
Onde estavas tu, quando eu fundava a terra? faze-m'o saber, se tens intelligencia.
5 Who determined the measures thereof, if thou knowest? Or who stretched the line upon it?
Quem lhe poz as medidas? se tu o sabes; ou quem estendeu sobre ella o cordel?
6 Whereupon were the foundations thereof fastened? Or who laid the corner-stone thereof,
Sobre que estão fundadas as suas bases? ou quem assentou a sua pedra da esquina,
7 When the morning stars sang together, and all the sons of God shouted for joy?
Quando as estrellas da alva juntas alegremente cantavam, e todos os filhos de Deus jubilavam?
8 Or who shut up the sea with doors, when it broke forth, and issued out of the womb;
Ou quem encerrou o mar com portas, quando trasbordou e saiu da madre;
9 When I made the cloud the garment thereof, and thick darkness a swaddlingband for it,
Quando eu puz as nuvens por sua vestidura, e a escuridão por envolvedouro?
10 And prescribed for it My decree, and set bars and doors,
Quando passei sobre elle o meu decreto, e lhe puz portas e ferrolhos;
11 And said: 'Thus far shalt thou come, but no further; and here shall thy proud waves be stayed'?
E disse: Até aqui virás, e não mais adiante, e aqui se quebrarão as tuas ondas empolladas?
12 Hast thou commanded the morning since thy days began, and caused the dayspring to know its place;
Ou desde os teus dias déste ordem á madrugada? ou mostraste á alva o seu logar;
13 That it might take hold of the ends of the earth, and the wicked be shaken out of it?
Para que pegasse dos fins da terra, e os impios fossem sacudidos d'ella;
14 It is changed as clay under the seal; and they stand as a garment.
E se transformasse como o barro, sob o sello, e se pozessem como vestidos;
15 But from the wicked their light is withholden, and the high arm is broken.
E dos impios se desvie a sua luz, e o braço altivo se quebrante;
16 Hast thou entered into the springs of the sea? Or hast thou walked in the recesses of the deep?
Ou entraste tu até ás origens do mar? ou passeaste no mais profundo do abysmo?
17 Have the gates of death been revealed unto thee? Or hast thou seen the gates of the shadow of death?
Ou descobriram-se-te as portas da morte? ou viste as portas da sombra da morte?
18 Hast thou surveyed unto the breadths of the earth? Declare, if thou knowest it all.
Ou com o teu entendimento chegaste ás larguras da terra? faze-m'o saber, se sabes tudo isto.
19 Where is the way to the dwelling of light, and as for darkness, where is the place thereof;
Onde está o caminho para onde mora a luz? e, quanto ás trevas, onde está o seu logar;
20 That thou shouldest take it to the bound thereof, and that thou shouldest know the paths to the house thereof?
Para que as tragas aos seus limites, e para que saibas as veredas da sua casa?
21 Thou knowest it, for thou wast then born, and the number of thy days is great!
Acaso tu o sabes, porque já então eras nascido, e por ser grande o numero dos teus dias?
22 Hast thou entered the treasuries of the snow, or hast thou seen the treasuries of the hail,
Ou entraste tu até aos thesouros da neve? e viste os thesouros da saraiva,
23 Which I have reserved against the time of trouble, against the day of battle and war?
Que eu retenho até do tempo da angustia, até ao dia da peleja e da guerra?
24 By what way is the light parted, or the east wind scattered upon the earth?
Onde está o caminho em que se reparte a luz, e se espalha o vento oriental sobre a terra?
25 Who hath cleft a channel for the waterflood, or a way for the lightning of the thunder;
Quem abriu para a inundação um leito, e um caminho para os relampagos dos trovões;
26 To cause it to rain on a land where no man is, on the wilderness, wherein there is no man;
Para chover sobre a terra, onde não ha ninguem, e no deserto, em que não ha gente;
27 To satisfy the desolate and waste ground, and to cause the bud of the tender herb to spring forth?
Para fartar a terra deserta e assolada, e para fazer crescer os renovos da herva?
28 Hath the rain a father? Or who hath begotten the drops of dew?
A chuva porventura tem pae? ou quem géra as gottas do orvalho,
29 Out of whose womb came the ice? And the hoar-frost of heaven, who hath gendered it?
De cujo ventre procede o gelo? e quem gera a geada do céu?
30 The waters are congealed like stone, and the face of the deep is frozen.
Como debaixo de pedra as aguas se escondem: e a superficie do abysmo se coalha.
31 Canst thou bind the chains of the Pleiades, or loose the bands of Orion?
Ou poderás tu ajuntar as delicias das sete estrellas, ou soltar os atilhos do Orion?
32 Canst thou lead forth the Mazzaroth in their season? Or canst thou guide the Bear with her sons?
Ou produzir as constellações a seu tempo? e guiar a Ursa com seus filhos?
33 Knowest thou the ordinances of the heavens? Canst thou establish the dominion thereof in the earth?
Sabes tu as ordenanças dos céus? ou podes dispor do dominio d'elles sobre a terra?
34 Canst thou lift up thy voice to the clouds, that abundance of waters may cover thee?
Ou podes levantar a tua voz até ás nuvens, para que a abundancia das aguas te cubra?
35 Canst thou send forth lightnings, that they may go, and say unto thee: 'Here we are'?
Ou enviarás aos raios para que saiam, e te digam: Eis-nos aqui?
36 Who hath put wisdom in the inward parts? Or who hath given understanding to the mind?
Quem poz a sabedoria nas entranhas? ou quem deu ao sentido o entendimento?
37 Who can number the clouds by wisdom? Or who can pour out the bottles of heaven,
Quem numerará as nuvens pela sabedoria? ou os odres dos céus, quem os abaixará,
38 When the dust runneth into a mass, and the clods cleave fast together?
Quando se funde o pó n'uma massa, e se apegam os torrões uns aos outros?
39 Wilt thou hunt the prey for the lioness? Or satisfy the appetite of the young lions,
Porventura caçarás tu preza para a leôa? ou fartaras a fome dos filhos dos leões,
40 When they couch in their dens, and abide in the covert to lie in wait?
Quando se agacham nos covis, e estão á espreita nas covas?
41 Who provideth for the raven his prey, when his young ones cry unto God, and wander for lack of food?
Quem prepara aos corvos o seu alimento, quando os seus pintainhos gritam a Deus e andam vagueando, por não terem de comer?
