Job 34
1 Moreover Elihu answered and said:
Elihu hob sodann wieder an und sprach:
2 Hear my words, ye wise men; and give ear unto me, ye that have knowledge.
Hört, ihr Weisen, meine Worte, und ihr Verständigen leiht mir euer Ohr.
3 For the ear trieth words, as the palate tasteth food.
Denn das Ohr prüft die Worte, wie der Gaumen die Speise kostet.
4 Let us choose for us that which is right; let us know among ourselves what is good.
Das Rechte wollen wir ausfindig machen, gemeinsam erkennen, was gut ist.
5 For Job hath said: 'I am righteous, and God hath taken away my right;
Denn Hiob hat gesagt: “Ich bin schuldlos, doch Gott hat mir mein Recht entzogen.
6 Notwithstanding my right I am accounted a liar; my wound is incurable, though I am without transgression.'
Trotz meines Rechtes soll ich lügen? Mich traf ein böser Pfeil, ohne mein Verschulden.”
7 What man is like Job, who drinketh up scorning like water?
Wo ist ein Mann wie Hiob, der Lästerung wie Wasser trinkt,
8 Who goeth in company with the workers of iniquity, and walketh with wicked men.
zur Genossenschaft mit Übelthätern schreitet und zum Umgang mit Frevlern?
9 For he hath said: 'It profiteth a man nothing that he should be in accord with God.'
Denn er hat gesagt: “Der Mensch hat keinen Nutzen davon, daß er mit Gott Freundschaft hält.”
10 Therefore hearken unto me, ye men of understanding: Far be it from God, that He should do wickedness; and from the Almighty, that He should commit iniquity.
Darum, ihr Einsichtigen, hört mir zu: Ferne sei es, daß Gott Frevel übte, und der Allmächtige Unrecht!
11 For the work of a man will He requite unto him, and cause every man to find according to his ways.
Nein, des Menschen Thun vergilt er ihm und nach des Mannes Wandel läßt er's ihm ergehen.
12 Yea, of a surety, God will not do wickedly, neither will the Almighty pervert justice.
Ja wahrlich, Gott handelt nicht ungerecht und der Allmächtige beugt nicht das Recht.
13 Who gave Him a charge over the earth? Or who hath disposed the whole world?
Wer hat ihm die Erde anvertraut? Und wer hat die ganze Welt gegründet?
14 If He set His heart upon man, if He gather unto Himself his spirit and his breath;
Wenn er auf sich nur achtete, seinen Geist und Odem an sich zöge,
15 All flesh shall perish together, and man shall return unto dust.
so würde alles Fleisch miteinander vergehen, und der Mensch würde wieder zu Staub.
16 If now thou hast understanding, hear this; hearken to the voice of my words.
Hast du Verstand, so höre dies, leihe dein Ohr dem Laute meiner Worte.
17 Shall even one that hateth right govern? And wilt thou condemn Him that is just and mighty —
Kann auch, wer das Recht haßt, die Zügel führen? Oder willst du den Gerechten, Gewaltigen ins Unrecht setzen?
18 Is it fit to say to a king: 'Thou art base'? Or to nobles: 'Ye are wicked'? —
Ihn, der zum König spricht: “Du Nichtswürdiger!” “du Gottloser” zu Edlen?
19 That respecteth not the persons of princes, nor regardeth the rich more than the poor? For they all are the work of His hands.
Der nicht Partei für Fürsten nimmt, noch den Reichen vor dem Armen bevorzugt; denn seiner Hände Werk sind sie alle.
20 In a moment they die, even at midnight; the people are shaken and pass away, and the mighty are taken away without hand.
Augenblicklich sterben sie und mitten in der Nacht: das Volk wird aufgerüttelt, und sie fahren dahin; und den Starken beseitigt man, ohne eine Hand zu rühren.
21 For His eyes are upon the ways of a man, and He seeth all his goings.
Denn seine Augen schauen auf eines jeden Wege, und alle seine Schritte sieht er.
22 There is no darkness, nor shadow of death, where the workers of iniquity may hide themselves.
Keine Finsternis giebts und kein so tiefes Dunkel, da sich die Übelthäter bergen könnten.
23 For He doth not appoint a time unto any man, when he should go before God in judgment.
Denn er braucht nicht erst auf einen Mann zu achten, damit er vor Gott zum Gericht erscheine.
24 He breaketh in pieces mighty men without inquisition, and setteth others in their stead.
Er zerschmettert Starke ohne Untersuchung und läßt andre an ihre Stelle treten.
25 Therefore He taketh knowledge of their works; and He overturneth them in the night, so that they are crushed.
Somit kennt er ihre Thaten und stürzt sie über Nacht, und sie werden zermalmt.
26 He striketh them as wicked men in the open sight of others;
Ihre Missethat geißelt er, da, wo alle es sehen,
27 Because they turned aside from following Him, and would not have regard to any of His ways;
darum, weil sie von ihm abgefallen sind und alle seine Wege außer acht gelassen haben,
28 So that they cause the cry of the poor to come unto Him, and He heareth the cry of the afflicted.
damit sie das Geschrei des Armen vor ihn brächten, und er das Schreien der Elenden hörte.
29 When He giveth quietness, who then can condemn? And when He hideth His face, who then can behold Him? whether it be done unto a nation, or unto a man, alike;
Und wenn er Ruhe schaft, wer will ihn verurteilen? Wenn er das Antlitz verbirgt, wer kann ihn schauen? Und dennoch wacht er über Volk und Menschen,
30 That the godless man reign not, that there be none to ensnare the people.
daß nicht ein ruchloser Mensch herrsche, nicht Fallstricke des Volks.
31 For hath any said unto God: 'I have borne chastisement, though I offend not;
Denn hat man etwa zu Gotte gesagt: “Ich trage, will nicht Übles thun!
32 That which I see not teach Thou me; if I have done iniquity, I will do it no more'?
“Über das, was ich nicht sehe, belehre du mich; wenn ich Unrecht gethan habe, will ich's nicht wieder thun”.
33 Shall His recompense be as thou wilt? For thou loathest it, so that thou must choose, and not I; therefore speak what thou knowest.
Soll er es nach deinem Sinne vergelten, weil du verschmähst? Denn du mußt bestimmen und nicht ich! Und was du weißt sprich aus!
34 Men of understanding will say unto me, yea, every wise man that heareth me:
Einsichtige Leute werden mir sagen, und ein weiser Mann, der mir zuhört:
35 'Job speaketh without knowledge, and his words are without discernment.'
“Hiob redet ohne Einsicht, und seine Worte sind ohne Überlegung.”
36 Would that Job were tried unto the end, because of his answering like wicked men.
O, möchte doch Hiob fort und fort geprüft werden wegen seiner Einwände nach Sünderart!
37 For he addeth rebellion unto his sin, he clappeth his hands among us, and multiplieth his words against God.
Denn zu seiner Sünde fügt er Frevel; in unserer Mitte höhnt er und macht viel Redens gegen Gott.
