Job 34
1 Moreover Elihu answered and said:
Und wieder hob Elihu an und sprach:
2 Hear my words, ye wise men; and give ear unto me, ye that have knowledge.
"Ihr Weisen, höret meine Worte, und ihr Verständigen, leiht mir das Ohr!
3 For the ear trieth words, as the palate tasteth food.
Das Ohr prüft ja die Worte, gleichwie der Gaumen Essen kostet.
4 Let us choose for us that which is right; let us know among ourselves what is good.
Das Rechte laßt uns wählen und unter uns erkunden: Was ist richtig?
5 For Job hath said: 'I am righteous, and God hath taken away my right;
Gesagt hat Job: 'Ich bin schuldlos, und Gott hat mir mein Recht entzogen.
6 Notwithstanding my right I am accounted a liar; my wound is incurable, though I am without transgression.'
Ich werde um mein Recht betrogen, und meine Qual ist ganz entsetzlich.'
7 What man is like Job, who drinketh up scorning like water?
Wo ist ein solcher Mann wie Job, der Lästerung wie Wasser trinkt
8 Who goeth in company with the workers of iniquity, and walketh with wicked men.
und der Gemeinschaft hat mit Übeltätern, mit Frevlern Umgang?
9 For he hath said: 'It profiteth a man nothing that he should be in accord with God.'
Er spricht: 'Der Mann hat nichts davon, wenn er mit Gott in Freundschaft lebt.'
10 Therefore hearken unto me, ye men of understanding: Far be it from God, that He should do wickedness; and from the Almighty, that He should commit iniquity.
Drum hört mir zu, ihr klugen Leute! Fern sei's, daß Frevel Gott begeht und Unrecht der Allmächtige!
11 For the work of a man will He requite unto him, and cause every man to find according to his ways.
Nein, nur des Menschen Tun vergilt er ihm, und nach des Mannes Wandel läßt er's ihm ergehen.
12 Yea, of a surety, God will not do wickedly, neither will the Almighty pervert justice.
Wahrhaftig, Gott handelt nicht ungerecht, und der Allmächtige beugt nicht das Recht.
13 Who gave Him a charge over the earth? Or who hath disposed the whole world?
Wem nur auf Erden hat er aufgetragen, wem aufgebürdet irgendeinen Teil der Welt?
14 If He set His heart upon man, if He gather unto Himself his spirit and his breath;
Wenn er auf sich nur achtete und seinen Geist und Odem an sich zöge,
15 All flesh shall perish together, and man shall return unto dust.
verginge alles Fleisch zumal; zu Staube würde dann der Mensch.
16 If now thou hast understanding, hear this; hearken to the voice of my words.
Hast du Verstand, dann höre dies, leih meiner Worte Laut dein Ohr!
17 Shall even one that hateth right govern? And wilt thou condemn Him that is just and mighty —
Kann denn in Milde, wer das Recht haßt, herrschen? Willst du ihn denn beschuldigen, er sei zu sehr gerecht?
18 Is it fit to say to a king: 'Thou art base'? Or to nobles: 'Ye are wicked'? —
Ihn, der zu einem König sprechen kann: 'Verworfener!', 'Du Frevler!' zu dem Vornehmen,
19 That respecteth not the persons of princes, nor regardeth the rich more than the poor? For they all are the work of His hands.
der nicht Partei für Fürsten nimmt und nicht bevorzugt Reiche vor den Armen. Sie alle sind ja seiner Hände Werk.
20 In a moment they die, even at midnight; the people are shaken and pass away, and the mighty are taken away without hand.
In einem Augenblicke sterben sie, und mitten in der Nacht wird aufgestört ein Volk und muß davon; Tyrannen setzt man ohne alles Zutun ab.
21 For His eyes are upon the ways of a man, and He seeth all his goings.
Auf eines jeden Weg hinblicken seine Augen, und er sieht eines jeden Schritte.
22 There is no darkness, nor shadow of death, where the workers of iniquity may hide themselves.
Nicht Finsternis, nicht Dunkel ist, wo sich die Übeltäter bergen könnten.
23 For He doth not appoint a time unto any man, when he should go before God in judgment.
Denn er bestimmt, daß vor Gericht man nicht vor einem Menschen, vielmehr vor Gott erscheinen muß.
24 He breaketh in pieces mighty men without inquisition, and setteth others in their stead.
Er kann die Mächtigen zerschmettern ohne lange Untersuchung; an ihre Stelle setzt er andere.
25 Therefore He taketh knowledge of their works; and He overturneth them in the night, so that they are crushed.
Weil er sie unterscheiden kann von ihren Sklaven, drum stürzt er selbst sie mitten in der Nacht, daß sie vernichtet werden.
26 He striketh them as wicked men in the open sight of others;
Er geißelt sie wie Missetäter vor aller Augen,
27 Because they turned aside from following Him, and would not have regard to any of His ways;
weil sie von ihm gewichen, auf keinen seiner Wege Rücksicht nehmen.
28 So that they cause the cry of the poor to come unto Him, and He heareth the cry of the afflicted.
Sie lassen das Geschrei des Armen zu ihm kommen, daß er der Elenden Geschrei vernehmen muß.
29 When He giveth quietness, who then can condemn? And when He hideth His face, who then can behold Him? whether it be done unto a nation, or unto a man, alike;
Und ruht er einmal aus, wer möchte dies verdammen? Wenn er das Antlitz birgt, wer sieht ihn dann? Er ordnet an bei einem andern Volke und bei andern Leuten,
30 That the godless man reign not, that there be none to ensnare the people.
daß nicht ein frevelhafter Mensch darüber herrsche, daß der Zerstreuung nicht ein Volk verfalle.
31 For hath any said unto God: 'I have borne chastisement, though I offend not;
So sollte man zu Gott wohl sagen: 'Ich trage es und will nicht irre werden.
32 That which I see not teach Thou me; if I have done iniquity, I will do it no more'?
Belehre Du mich über das, was ich nicht sehe! Und tat ich Böses, will ich's nimmer tun!'
33 Shall His recompense be as thou wilt? For thou loathest it, so that thou must choose, and not I; therefore speak what thou knowest.
Soll etwa er nach deinem Sinn vergelten, weil da das 'Wähle du, nicht ich' so hassest, und du weißt selbst nicht das geringste?
34 Men of understanding will say unto me, yea, every wise man that heareth me:
Mir werden kluge Leute sagen und weise Männer, die mich hören:
35 'Job speaketh without knowledge, and his words are without discernment.'
'Ganz, ohne Einsicht redet Job, und seinen Worten fehlt die Überlegung.'
36 Would that Job were tried unto the end, because of his answering like wicked men.
Als Muster wird sich Job für alle Zeit bewähren bei Schlechten wegen seiner Art zu folgern.
37 For he addeth rebellion unto his sin, he clappeth his hands among us, and multiplieth his words against God.
Zu seiner schlechten Aufführung fügt er noch einen Frevel; auf uns hier schlägt er ein und redet Freches wider Gott."
