Job 33
1 Howbeit, Job, I pray thee, hear my speech, and hearken to all my words.
« Cependant, Job, écoutez mon discours, et écoutez toutes mes paroles.
2 Behold now, I have opened my mouth, my tongue hath spoken in my mouth.
Voici, j'ai ouvert ma bouche. Ma langue a parlé dans ma bouche.
3 My words shall utter the uprightness of my heart; and that which my lips know they shall speak sincerely.
Mes paroles exprimeront la droiture de mon cœur. Ce que mes lèvres savent, elles le diront sincèrement.
4 The spirit of God hath made me, and the breath of the Almighty given me life.
L'Esprit de Dieu m'a fait, et le souffle du Tout-Puissant me donne la vie.
5 If thou canst, answer thou me, set thy words in order before me, stand forth.
Si tu peux, réponds-moi. Mettez de l'ordre dans vos paroles devant moi, et levez-vous.
6 Behold, I am toward God even as thou art; I also am formed out of the clay.
Voici, je suis envers Dieu comme vous l'êtes. Je suis aussi formé à partir de l'argile.
7 Behold, my terror shall not make thee afraid, neither shall my pressure be heavy upon thee.
Voici, ma terreur ne vous effraie pas, ma pression ne sera pas non plus lourde pour vous.
8 Surely thou hast spoken in my hearing, and I have heard the voice of thy words;
« Tu as parlé à mon oreille, J'ai entendu la voix de tes paroles, disant,
9 'I am clean, without transgression, I am innocent, neither is there iniquity in me;
Je suis pur, sans désobéissance. Je suis innocent, il n'y a pas d'iniquité en moi.
10 Behold, He findeth occasions against me, He counteth me for His enemy;
Voici, il trouve des occasions contre moi. Il me considère comme son ennemi.
11 He putteth my feet in the stocks, He marketh all my paths.'
Il met mes pieds dans les ceps. Il marque tous mes chemins.
12 Behold, I answer thee: In this thou art not right, that God is too great for man;
« Voici, je vais te répondre. En cela, tu n'es pas juste, car Dieu est plus grand que l'homme.
13 Why hast thou striven against Him? seeing that He will not answer any of his words.
Pourquoi vous battez-vous contre lui? parce qu'il ne rend compte d'aucune de ses affaires?
14 For God speaketh in one way, yea in two, though man perceiveth it not.
Car Dieu parle une fois, oui deux fois, bien que l'homme n'y prête pas attention.
15 In a dream, in a vision of the night, when deep sleep falleth upon men, in slumberings upon the bed;
Dans un rêve, dans une vision de la nuit, quand le sommeil profond tombe sur les hommes, en somnolant sur le lit,
16 Then He openeth the ears of men, and by their chastisement sealeth the decree,
alors il ouvre les oreilles des hommes, et scelle leur instruction,
17 That men may put away their purpose, and that He may hide pride from man;
afin qu'il retire l'homme de son dessein, et cacher l'orgueil de l'homme.
18 That He may keep back his soul from the pit, and his life from perishing by the sword.
Il préserve son âme de la fosse, et sa vie de périr par l'épée.
19 He is chastened also with pain upon his bed, and all his bones grow stiff;
« Il est aussi châtié par la douleur sur son lit, avec une lutte continuelle dans ses os,
20 So that his life maketh him to abhor bread, and his soul dainty food.
de sorte que sa vie a horreur du pain, et son âme une nourriture délicate.
21 His flesh is consumed away, that it cannot be seen; and his bones corrode to unsightliness.
Sa chair est tellement consumée qu'on ne la voit plus. Ses os qui n'ont pas été vus ressortent.
22 Yea, his soul draweth near unto the pit, and his life to the destroyers.
Oui, son âme s'approche de la fosse, et sa vie aux destructeurs.
23 If there be for him an angel, an intercessor, one among a thousand, to vouch for a man's uprightness;
« S'il y a à côté de lui un ange, un interprète, un parmi mille, pour montrer à l'homme ce qui est bon pour lui,
24 Then He is gracious unto him, and saith: 'Deliver him from going down to the pit, I have found a ransom.'
alors Dieu lui fait grâce, et dit, « Délivre-le de la descente dans la fosse. J'ai trouvé une rançon.
25 His flesh is tenderer than a child's; he returneth to the days of his youth;
Sa chair sera plus fraîche que celle d'un enfant. Il retourne aux jours de sa jeunesse.
26 He prayeth unto God, and He is favourable unto him; so that he seeth His face with joy; and He restoreth unto man his righteousness.
Il prie Dieu, et il lui est favorable, pour qu'il voie son visage avec joie. Il rend à l'homme sa justice.
27 He cometh before men, and saith: 'I have sinned, and perverted that which was right, and it profited me not.'
Il chante devant les hommes, et dit, J'ai péché, j'ai perverti ce qui était juste, et ça ne m'a pas profité.
28 So He redeemeth his soul from going into the pit, and his life beholdeth the light.
Il a racheté mon âme pour qu'elle n'entre pas dans la fosse. Ma vie va voir la lumière.
29 Lo, all these things doth God work, twice, yea thrice, with a man,
« Voici que Dieu fait toutes ces choses, deux fois, oui trois fois, avec un homme,
30 To bring back his soul from the pit, that he may be enlightened with the light of the living.
pour ramener son âme de la fosse, afin qu'il soit éclairé par la lumière des vivants.
31 Mark well, O Job, hearken unto me; hold thy peace, and I will speak.
Marque bien, Job, et écoute-moi. Gardez le silence, et je parlerai.
32 If thou hast any thing to say, answer me; speak, for I desire to justify thee.
Si tu as quelque chose à dire, réponds-moi. Parlez, car je désire vous justifier.
33 If not, hearken thou unto me; hold thy peace, and I will teach thee wisdom.
Si ce n'est pas le cas, écoutez-moi. Garde le silence, et je t'enseignerai la sagesse. »
