Job 28
1 For there is a mine for silver, and a place for gold which they refine.
Mert van az ezüstnek eredete és helye az aranynak, ahol olvasztják;
2 Iron is taken out of the dust, and brass is molten out of the stone.
a vasat a porból veszik és rézzé öntik meg a követ.
3 Man setteth an end to darkness, and searcheth out to the furthest bound the stones of thick darkness and of the shadow of death.
Véget vetett a sötétségnek és végesvégig kutatja át a homálynak és vakhomálynak kövét.
4 He breaketh open a shaft away from where men sojourn; they are forgotten of the foot that passeth by; they hang afar from men, they swing to and fro.
Aknát tört távol a lakóktól; a kik elfelejtvék a lábtól, lebegtek, bolyongtak, távol a halandóktól.
5 As for the earth, out of it cometh bread, and underneath it is turned up as it were by fire.
A föld – belőle ered a kenyér, s alatta fel van dúlva, mint tűzzel.
6 The stones thereof are the place of sapphires, and it hath dust of gold.
Zafírnak helye az ő kövei, s aranyporai vannak.
7 That path no bird of prey knoweth, neither hath the falcon's eye seen it;
Ösvény az, melyet nem ismer ragadozó madár s nem villant rá a sólyom szeme;
8 The proud beasts have not trodden it, nor hath the lion passed thereby.
nem tiporták meg a büszke vadak, nem vonult el rajta oroszlán.
9 He putteth forth his hand upon the flinty rock; He overturneth the mountains by the roots.
A kovára nyújtotta ki kezét, feldúlta tövükből a hegyeket.
10 He cutteth out channels among the rocks; and his eye seeth every precious thing.
A sziklákban csatornákat hasított s minden drágaságot meglátott a szeme.
11 He bindeth the streams that they trickle not; and the thing that is hid bringeth he forth to light.
Hogy ne könnyezzenek, elkötötte a vízereket s a rejtelmet napvilágra hozza.
12 But wisdom, where shall it be found? And where is the place of understanding?
De a bölcsesség honnan található és merre van az értelem helye?
13 Man knoweth not the price thereof; neither is it found in the land of the living.
Halandó nem ismeri a becsét a nem található az élők országában.
14 The deep saith: 'It is not in me'; and the sea saith: 'It is not with me.'
A mélység mondta: nincs bennem, s a tenger mondta: nincsen nálam.
15 It cannot be gotten for gold, neither shall silver be weighed for the price thereof.
Finom arany nem adható helyébe s árául nem mérhető le ezüst;
16 It cannot be valued with the gold of Ophir, with the precious onyx, or the sapphire.
nem mérhető föl Ófir színaranyával, drága sóhammal és zafírral;
17 Gold and glass cannot equal it; neither shall the exchange thereof be vessels of fine gold.
nem ér fel vele arany és üveg, se nem cserében érte aranyedény;
18 No mention shall be made of coral or of crystal; yea, the price of wisdom is above rubies.
a korál és kristály nem is említhető, s a bölcsesség birtoka gyöngyöknél külőmb;
19 The topaz of Ethiopia shall not equal it, neither shall it be valued with pure gold.
nem ér fel vele Kús topáza, tiszta színarannyal nem mérhető fel.
20 Whence then cometh wisdom? And where is the place of understanding?
A bölcsesség tehát honnan jön, s merre van az értelem helye?
21 Seeing it is hid from the eyes of all living, and kept close from the fowls of the air.
El van az rejtve minden élőnek szeme elől, s az ég madarai elől eltakarva.
22 Destruction and Death say: 'We have heard a rumor thereof with our ears.'
Enyészet és halál mondták: füleinkkel hallottuk hírét.
23 God understandeth the way thereof, and He knoweth the place thereof.
Isten érti az útját és ő tudja helyét.
24 For He looketh to the ends of the earth, and seeth under the whole heaven;
Mert ő a föld széléig tekint, a mi az egész ég alatt van, látja,
25 When He maketh a weight for the wind, and meteth out the waters by measure.
hogy a szélnek súlyát szabja, s a vizet mérték szerint határozza meg.
26 When He made a decree for the rain, and a way for the storm of thunders;
Midőn az esőnek törvényt szabott és tat a mennydörgő villámnak:
27 Then did He see it, and declare it; He established it, yea, and searched it out.
akkor látta őt, számba foglalta, megállapította, át is kutatta;
28 And unto man He said: 'Behold, the fear of the Lord, that is wisdom; and to depart from evil is understanding.'
és mondta az embernek: lám, az Istenfélelem – az bölcsesség, s a rossztól távozni – értelem.
