Job 18
1 Then answered Bildad the Shuhite, and said:
Et Bildad, le Shuhite, prit la parole,
2 How long will ye lay snares for words? Consider, and afterwards we will speak.
« Combien de temps allez-vous chercher les mots? Réfléchissez, et après nous parlerons.
3 Wherefore are we counted as beasts, and reputed dull in your sight?
Pourquoi sommes-nous comptés comme des animaux, qui sont devenus impurs à vos yeux?
4 Thou that tearest thyself in thine anger, shall the earth be forsaken for thee? Or shall the rock be removed out of its place?
Toi qui te déchires dans ta colère, la terre sera-t-elle abandonnée pour vous? Ou bien la pierre sera-t-elle retirée de son emplacement?
5 Yea, the light of the wicked shall be put out, and the spark of his fire shall not shine.
« Oui, la lumière des méchants sera éteinte. L'étincelle de son feu ne brillera pas.
6 The light shall be dark in his tent, and his lamp over him shall be put out.
La lumière sera sombre dans sa tente. Sa lampe au-dessus de lui sera éteinte.
7 The steps of his strength shall be straitened, and his own counsel shall cast him down.
Les pas de sa force seront abrégés. Son propre conseil le fera tomber.
8 For he is cast into a net by his own feet, and he walketh upon the toils.
Car il est jeté dans un filet par ses propres pieds, et il s'égare dans ses mailles.
9 A gin shall take him by the heel, and a snare shall lay hold on him.
Un piège le saisit par le talon. Un piège va l'attraper.
10 A noose is hid for him in the ground, and a trap for him in the way.
Un nœud coulant est caché pour lui dans le sol, un piège pour lui sur le chemin.
11 Terrors shall overwhelm him on every side, and shall entrap him at his feet.
Des terreurs l'effraieront de toutes parts, et le poursuivra sur ses talons.
12 His trouble shall be ravenous, and calamity shall be ready for his fall.
Sa force sera affamée. Calamity sera prêt à ses côtés.
13 It shall devour the members of his body, yea, the first-born of death shall devour his members.
Les membres de son corps seront dévorés. Le premier-né de la mort dévorera ses membres.
14 That wherein he trusteth shall be plucked out of his tent; and he shall be brought to the king of terrors.
Il sera déraciné de la sécurité de sa tente. Il sera amené au roi des terreurs.
15 There shall dwell in his tent that which is none of his; brimstone shall be scattered upon his habitation.
Dans sa tente habitera ce qui n'est pas à lui. Le soufre sera répandu sur sa demeure.
16 His roots shall dry up beneath, and above shall his branch wither.
Ses racines seront desséchées par-dessous. Sa branche sera coupée en haut.
17 His remembrance shall perish from the earth, and he shall have no name abroad.
Son souvenir disparaîtra de la terre. Il n'aura pas de nom dans la rue.
18 He shall be driven from light into darkness, and chased out of the world.
Il sera chassé de la lumière dans les ténèbres, et chassé du monde.
19 He shall have neither son nor son's son among his people, nor any remaining in his dwellings.
Il n'aura ni fils ni petit-fils parmi son peuple, et aucun ne reste là où il a vécu.
20 They that come after shall be astonished at his day, as they that went before are affrighted.
Ceux qui viendront après seront étonnés de son jour, comme ceux qui les ont précédés ont été effrayés.
21 Surely such are the dwellings of the wicked, and this is the place of him that knoweth not God.
Telles sont les demeures des injustes. C'est la place de celui qui ne connaît pas Dieu. »
