Job 17
1 My spirit is consumed, my days are extinct, the grave is ready for me.
"Dahin ist meine Lebenskraft, und meine Tage, die verflossen, sind für mich ebensoviel Gräber.
2 Surely there are mockers with me, and mine eye abideth in their provocation.
Wahrhaftig! Tadler sind bei mir; mein Auge muß auf ihrem Hader weilen. -
3 Give now a pledge, be surety for me with Thyself; who else is there that will strike hands with me?
Setz ein! Jedoch Du hast schon meinen Einsatz. Wer gäbe sonst mir Handschlag?
4 For Thou hast hid their heart from understanding; therefore shalt Thou not exalt them.
Ihr Herz verschlossest Du der Einsicht; drum darfst Du sie nicht triumphieren lassen.
5 He that denounceth his friends for the sake of flattery, even the eyes of his children shall fail.
Es hieße, Freunden einen Anteil zuerkennen, die eigenen Kinder aber darben lassen.
6 He hath made me also a byword of the people; and I am become one in whose face they spit.
Zum Sprichwort macht er mich für alle Welt; wie einer, dem man ins Gesicht speit, bin ich jetzt.
7 Mine eye also is dimmed by reason of vexation, and all my members are as a shadow.
Die Augen sind vor Kummer blind; wie Schatten schwindet hin mein Leib.
8 Upright men are astonished at this, and the innocent stirreth up himself against the godless.
Die 'Frommen' staunen drüber, 'Unschuldige' jubeln über den Verruchten.
9 Yet the righteous holdeth on his way, and he that hath clean hands waxeth stronger and stronger.
Recht fest an ihrem Wege halten die 'Gerechten', aufs neue schöpfen Kräfte diese 'Biederen'.
10 But as for you all, do ye return, and come now; and I shall not find a wise man among you.
Wenn ihr auch allesamt herbeikommt, ich finde keinen Weisen unter euch.
11 My days are past, my purposes are broken off, even the thoughts of my heart.
Hinschwinden meine Tage; dahin sind meine Pläne, die Herzenswünsche.
12 They change the night into day; the light is short because of darkness.
Nacht macht man mir für Tag, das Licht noch dunkler als die Finsternis.
13 If I look for the nether-world as my house; if I have spread my couch in the darkness; (Sheol h7585)
Muß ich schon in der Unterwelt auf eine Wohnung rechnen, erhalte ich mein Ruhbett in der Finsternis. (Sheol h7585)
14 If I have said to corruption: 'Thou art my father', to the worm: 'Thou art my mother, and my sister';
Und muß ich 'Vater!' zur Verwesung sagen und zum Gewürme 'Mutter!', 'Schwester!',
15 Where then is my hope? And as for my hope, who shall see it?
wo bleibt da meine Hoffnung? Wer kann noch Glück für mich erspähen?
