Job 17
1 My spirit is consumed, my days are extinct, the grave is ready for me.
« Mon esprit est consumé. Mes jours sont éteints et la tombe est prête pour moi.
2 Surely there are mockers with me, and mine eye abideth in their provocation.
Il y a certainement des moqueurs avec moi. Mon regard s'attarde sur leur provocation.
3 Give now a pledge, be surety for me with Thyself; who else is there that will strike hands with me?
« Maintenant, donnez un gage. Sers-toi de toi-même comme garantie pour moi. Qui est là pour me donner la main?
4 For Thou hast hid their heart from understanding; therefore shalt Thou not exalt them.
Car tu as caché leur cœur à l'intelligence, c'est pourquoi vous ne les exalterez pas.
5 He that denounceth his friends for the sake of flattery, even the eyes of his children shall fail.
Celui qui dénonce ses amis pour le pillage, même les yeux de ses enfants seront défaillants.
6 He hath made me also a byword of the people; and I am become one in whose face they spit.
« Mais il a fait de moi la risée du peuple. Ils me crachent au visage.
7 Mine eye also is dimmed by reason of vexation, and all my members are as a shadow.
Mon œil aussi est obscurci par la tristesse. Tous mes membres sont comme une ombre.
8 Upright men are astonished at this, and the innocent stirreth up himself against the godless.
Les hommes droits s'étonneront de cela. L'innocent se soulèvera contre l'impie.
9 Yet the righteous holdeth on his way, and he that hath clean hands waxeth stronger and stronger.
Mais le juste s'en tiendra à sa voie. Celui qui a les mains propres deviendra de plus en plus fort.
10 But as for you all, do ye return, and come now; and I shall not find a wise man among you.
Mais quant à vous tous, revenez. Je ne trouverai pas d'homme sage parmi vous.
11 My days are past, my purposes are broken off, even the thoughts of my heart.
Mes jours sont passés. Mes plans sont rompus, comme les pensées de mon cœur.
12 They change the night into day; the light is short because of darkness.
Ils changent la nuit en jour, dire « La lumière est proche » en présence de l'obscurité.
13 If I look for the nether-world as my house; if I have spread my couch in the darkness; (Sheol h7585)
Si je considère le séjour des morts comme ma maison, si j'ai étendu ma couche dans l'obscurité, (Sheol h7585)
14 If I have said to corruption: 'Thou art my father', to the worm: 'Thou art my mother, and my sister';
si j'ai dit à la corruption: « Tu es mon père ». et au ver: « Ma mère » et « Ma sœur ».
15 Where then is my hope? And as for my hope, who shall see it?
Où est donc mon espoir? Quant à mon espoir, qui le verra?
