Job 15
1 Then answered Eliphaz the Temanite, and said:
Darauf erwidert Eliphaz von Teman also:
2 Should a wise man make answer with windy knowledge, and fill his belly with the east wind?
"Kann denn ein Weiser so unsinnige Beweise bringen und sich in solcher Hohlheit blähen?
3 Should he reason with unprofitable talk, or with speeches wherewith he can do no good?
Kann er Beweis mit Reden führen, die nichts taugen, mit Sprüchen, die nichts nütze sind?
4 Yea, thou doest away with fear, and impairest devotion before God.
Du machst die Gottesfurcht zunichte, zerstörst die Andacht vor der Gottheit,
5 For thine iniquity teacheth thy mouth, and thou choosest the tongue of the crafty.
wenn deine Schuld dich lehrt, also zu reden, und du Verschmitzter Redeweise wählst.
6 Thine own mouth condemneth thee, and not I; yea, thine own lips testify against thee.
Dein eigener Mund verdammt dich und nicht ich; die eigenen Lippen strafen dich.
7 Art thou the first man that was born? Or wast thou brought forth before the hills?
Warst du als Erstlingsmensch geboren und kamst du vor den Hügeln auf die Welt,
8 Dost thou hearken in the council of God? And dost thou restrain wisdom to thyself?
und hörtest du im Rate Gottes zu und holtest Weisheit dir allein?
9 What knowest thou, that we know not? What understandest thou, which is not in us?
Was weißt du, und wir wüßten's nicht, verstehst, was unbekannt uns wäre?
10 With us are both the gray-headed and the very aged men, much older than thy father.
Sind unter uns doch graue Häupter, mehr als betagt genug, um Vater dir zu sein.
11 Are the consolations of God too small for thee, and the word that dealeth gently with thee?
Ist dir die Gotteströstung zu gering, das Wort, das sanft an dich ergeht?
12 Why doth thy heart carry thee away? And why do thine eyes wink?
Warum reißt dich ein Unmut fort? Was blicken deine Augen finster,
13 That thou turnest thy spirit against God, and lettest such words go out of thy mouth.
daß deinen Geist du Gott zurückzugeben trachtest? Nur mit dem Munde freilich hast du das gesagt.
14 What is man, that he should be clean? And he that is born of a woman, that he should be righteous?
Was ist der Mensch, daß rein er wäre, gerecht der Weibgeborene?
15 Behold, He putteth no trust in His holy ones; yea, the heavens are not clean in His sight.
Selbst seinen Heiligen traut er nicht; der Himmel ist nicht rein in seinen Augen,
16 How much less one that is abominable and impure, man who drinketh iniquity like water!
geschweige der Abscheuliche, Verdorbene, der Mensch, der Sünde wie das Wasser trinkt.
17 I will tell thee, hear thou me; and that which I have seen I will declare —
Ich will dich lehren; hör mir zu. Was ich geschaut, will ich dir sagen,
18 Which wise men have told from their fathers, and have not hid it;
was Weise einst verkündet, was ihre Väter ihnen nicht verhehlt,
19 Unto whom alone the land was given, and no stranger passed among them.
die noch allein im Lande saßen, zu denen noch kein Fremder kam.
20 The wicked man travaileth with pain all his days, even the number of years that are laid up for the oppressor.
Des Bösen Leben ist voll Angst; nur wenig Jahre sind für den Gewaltmenschen bestimmt.
21 A sound of terrors is in his ears: in prosperity the destroyer shall come upon him.
Der Schrecken hallt in seinem Ohr; wiewohl in Sicherheit, wird er vom Räuber überfallen schon.
22 He believeth not that he shall return out of darkness, and he is waited for of the sword.
Er gibt den Glauben auf, dem Dunkel zu entrinnen; er ist bestimmt für blutigen Tod
23 He wandereth abroad for bread: 'Where is it?' He knoweth that the day of darkness is ready at his hand.
und wird ein Fraß der Geier. Er weiß, ihm ist ein finsterer Tag von ihm bestimmt.
24 Distress and anguish overwhelm him; they prevail against him, as a king ready to the battle.
Ihn schreckt die Not; ihn überfällt die Drangsalszeit gleich einem kampfbereiten Hahn.
25 Because he hath stretched out his hand against God, and behaveth himself proudly against the Almighty;
Weil gegen Gott die Hand er ausgestreckt und dem Allmächtigen er Trotz geboten,
26 He runneth upon him with a stiff neck, with the thick bosses of his bucklers.
so stürmt er gegen ihn, mit seines rauhen Schildes Wölbung.
27 Because he hath covered his face with his fatness, and made collops of fat on his loins;
Er deckt mit dem Visier sein Angesicht, legt einen Panzerschurz um seine Lenden.
28 And he hath dwelt in desolate cities, in houses which no man would inhabit, which were ready to become heaps.
Nur in verfemten Städten noch kann jener siedeln, in unbewohnbaren Gebäuden, die schon dem Abbruch sind verfallen.
29 He shall not be rich, neither shall his substance continue, neither shall their produce bend to the earth.
Er wird nicht wieder reich, noch hat Bestand je seine Habe; er schlägt im Boden nimmer Wurzel.
30 He shall not depart out of darkness; the flame shall dry up his branches, and by the breath of His mouth shall he go away.
Der Finsternis entgeht er nicht, es dörrt die Hitze seine Zweige, und seine Blüten fallen durch den Sturmwind ab.
31 Let him not trust in vanity, deceiving himself; for vanity shall be his recompense.
Zu denen, die auf Nichtiges vertrauen, irrt er hin; sein Entgelt ist das Nichts.
32 It shall be accomplished before his time, and his branch shall not be leafy.
Noch vor der Zeit verwelken sie, und seine Zweige grünen nimmer.
33 He shall shake off his unripe grape as the vine, and shall cast off his flower as the olive.
Er wirft gleich einem Weinstock seine Früchte ab, wirft wie der Ölbaum seine Blüte hin.
34 For the company of the godless shall be desolate, and fire shall consume the tents of bribery.
Des Frevlers Rotte ist ja unfruchtbar, und Feuer frißt des Unrechts Zelte.
35 They conceive mischief, and bring forth iniquity, and their belly prepareth deceit.
Sie brüten Unheil, hecken Ungemach, und ihres Leibes Frucht ist Trug."
