Job 12
1 Then Job answered and said:
Et Job reprenant dit:
2 No doubt but ye are the people, and wisdom shall die with you.
Après tout vous êtes des hommes; est-ce qu'avec vous la sagesse périra?
3 But I have understanding as well as you; I am not inferior to you; yea, who knoweth not such things as these?
Et moi, j'ai comme vous un cœur.
4 I am as one that is a laughing-stock to his neighbour, a man that called upon God, and He answered him; the just, the innocent man is a laughing-stock,
Oui, un homme juste et irréprochable a été livré à la raillerie.
5 A contemptible brand in the thought of him that is at ease, a thing ready for them whose foot slippeth.
Au temps marqué, il devait périr par des mains étrangères; des gens iniques étaient prêts à mettre sa maison au pillage;
6 The tents of robbers prosper, and they that provoke God are secure, in whatsoever God bringeth into their hand.
toutefois que personne ne croie pouvoir faire du mal, puis être rétribué comme l'innocent. Tous ceux qui irritent le Seigneur ne sont pas soudain recherchés.
7 But ask now the beasts, and they shall teach thee; and the fowls of the air, and they shall tell thee;
Interroge les bêtes des champs et elles te parleront; questionne les oiseaux du ciel et ils t'instruiront.
8 Or speak to the earth, and it shall teach thee; and the fishes of the sea shall declare unto thee;
Raconte tout à la terre, sans rien omettre, et elle te répondra; les poissons de la mer te mettront pareillement sur la voie.
9 Who knoweth not among all these, that the hand of the LORD hath wrought this?
Qui donc ne reconnaît en tous les êtres que la main du Seigneur les a créés?
10 In whose hand is the soul of every living thing, and the breath of all mankind. —
N'a-t-il pas en sa main la vie de tout ce qui existe et le souffle de tout homme?
11 Doth not the ear try words, even as the palate tasteth its food?
L'oreille discerne les paroles; le gosier goûte les aliments.
12 Is wisdom with aged men, and understanding in length of days? —
La sagesse est le fruit de bien du temps; la science est le fruit de bien des existences.
13 With Him is wisdom and might; He hath counsel and understanding.
Toute force, toute sagesse viennent de Dieu; lui seul a l'intelligence et la volonté.
14 Behold, He breaketh down, and it cannot be built again; He shutteth up a man, and there can be no opening.
S'il a démoli, qui rebâtira? S'il a enfermé les hommes qui ouvrira?
15 Behold, He withholdeth the waters, and they dry up; also He sendeth them out, and they overturn the earth.
S'il retient les eaux, la terre se dessèche; s'il les lance toutes à la fois, il la bouleverse et la perd.
16 With Him is strength and sound wisdom; the deceived and the deceiver are His.
Toute force, toute puissance viennent de Dieu; lui seul a l'intelligence et le savoir.
17 He leadeth counsellors away stripped, and judges maketh He fools.
C'est lui qui conduit en captivité les conseillers des peuples; et il trouble l'esprit des juges de la terre.
18 He looseth the bond of kings, and bindeth their loins with a girdle.
Il place les rois sur leurs trônes; il serre la ceinture de leurs reins.
19 He leadeth priests away stripped, and overthroweth the mighty.
Il fait d'un prêtre un captif; il renverse les grands des empires.
20 He removeth the speech of men of trust, and taketh away the sense of the elders.
Il modifie à propos le langage des fidèles; il connaît la pensée des anciens.
21 He poureth contempt upon princes, and looseth the belt of the strong.
Il répand la honte sur les chefs; il guérit les humbles.
22 He uncovereth deep things out of darkness, and bringeth out to light the shadow of death.
Il dévoile l'abîme des ténèbres; il amène à la lumière l'ombre de la mort.
23 He increaseth the nations, and destroyeth them; He enlargeth the nations, and leadeth them away.
Il égare les nations; il les détruit; il abat les peuples ou il les dirige.
24 He taketh away the heart of the chiefs of the people of the land, and causeth them to wander in a wilderness where there is no way.
Il change le cœur des chefs des peuples; il les fait errer en des chemins qu'ils ne connaissaient pas,
25 They grope in the dark without light, and He maketh them to stagger like a drunken man.
Où ils marchent à tâtons dans l'obscurité; où il n'y a pas de lumière; où ils sont incertains comme un homme ivre.
