Jeremiah 6
1 Put yourselves under covert, ye children of Benjamin, away from the midst of Jerusalem, and blow the horn in Tekoa, and set up a signal on Beth-cherem; for evil looketh forth from the north, and a great destruction.
« Fuyez en sécurité, enfants de Benjamin, hors du centre de Jérusalem! Sonnez de la trompette à Tekoa et élevez un signal sur Beth Haccherem, car le malheur vient du nord avec une grande destruction.
2 The comely and delicate one, the daughter of Zion, will I cut off.
J'extermine la belle et la délicate, la fille de Sion.
3 Shepherds with their flocks come unto her; they pitch their tents against her round about; they feed bare every one what is nigh at hand.
Des bergers avec leurs troupeaux viendront vers elle. Ils dresseront leurs tentes tout autour d'elle. Ils feront paître chacun à sa place. »
4 'Prepare ye war against her; arise, and let us go up at noon!' 'Woe unto us! for the day declineth, for the shadows of the evening are stretched out!'
« Préparez la guerre contre elle! Levez-vous! Montons à midi. Malheur à nous! Car le jour décline, car les ombres du soir s'étendent.
5 'Arise, and let us go up by night, and let us destroy her palaces.'
Levez-vous! Montons de nuit, et détruisons ses palais. »
6 For thus hath the LORD of hosts said: hew ye down her trees, and cast up a mound against Jerusalem; this is the city to be punished; everywhere there is oppression in the midst of her.
Car Yahvé des armées a dit: « Abattez des arbres, et élevez un monticule contre Jérusalem. C'est la ville qu'il faut visiter. Elle est remplie d'oppression au-dedans d'elle-même.
7 As a cistern welleth with her waters, so she welleth with her wickedness; violence and spoil is heard in her; before Me continually is sickness and wounds.
Comme un puits produit ses eaux, ainsi elle produit sa méchanceté. On entend en elle la violence et la destruction. La maladie et les plaies sont continuellement devant moi.
8 Be thou corrected, O Jerusalem, lest My soul be alienated from thee, lest I make thee desolate, a land not inhabited.
Sois instruite, Jérusalem, de peur que mon âme ne se sépare de toi, que je ne fasse de toi une désolation, une terre inhabitée. »
9 Thus saith the LORD of hosts: They shall thoroughly glean as a vine the remnant of Israel; turn again thy hand as a grape-gatherer upon the shoots.
Yahvé des Armées dit: « Ils glaneront à fond le reste d'Israël comme une vigne. Tourne à nouveau ta main comme un vendangeur vers les paniers. »
10 To whom shall I speak and give warning, that they may hear? Behold, their ear is dull, and they cannot attend; behold, the word of the LORD is become unto them a reproach, they have no delight in it.
A qui devrais-je parler et rendre témoignage, pour qu'ils entendent? Voici, leur oreille est incirconcise, et ils ne peuvent pas écouter. Voici, la parole de Yahvé est devenue pour eux un opprobre. Ils n'y trouvent aucun plaisir.
11 Therefore I am full of the fury of the LORD, I am weary with holding in: pour it out upon the babes in the street, and upon the assembly of young men together; for even the husband with the wife shall be taken, the aged with him that is full of days.
C'est pourquoi je suis plein de la colère de Yahvé. Je suis fatigué de la retenir. « Versez-le sur les enfants dans la rue, et sur le rassemblement de jeunes hommes; car même le mari avec sa femme sera pris, le vieillard avec celui qui est plein de jours.
12 And their houses shall be turned unto others, their fields and their wives together; for I will stretch out My hand upon the inhabitants of the land, saith the LORD.
Leurs maisons seront confiées à d'autres, leurs champs et leurs femmes ensemble; car j'étendrai ma main sur les habitants du pays, dit Yahvé. »
13 For from the least of them even unto the greatest of them every one is greedy for gain; and from the prophet even unto the priest every one dealeth falsely.
« Car, depuis le plus petit jusqu'au plus grand, tous sont livrés à la convoitise. Depuis le prophète jusqu'au prêtre, tout le monde fait du faux.
14 They have healed also the hurt of My people lightly, saying: 'Peace, peace', when there is no peace.
Ils ont aussi guéri superficiellement la blessure de mon peuple, en disant « Paix, paix! » alors qu'il n'y a pas de paix.
15 They shall be put to shame because they have committed abomination; yea, they are not at all ashamed, neither know they how to blush; therefore they shall fall among them that fall, at the time that I punish them they shall stumble, saith the LORD.
N'ont-ils pas eu honte quand ils ont commis des abominations? Non, ils n'avaient pas du tout honte, ils ne pouvaient pas non plus rougir. Ils tomberont donc parmi ceux qui tombent. Quand je les visiterai, ils seront renversés », dit Yahvé.
16 Thus saith the LORD: Stand ye in the ways and see, and ask for the old paths, where is the good way, and walk therein, and ye shall find rest for your souls. But they said: 'We will not walk therein.'
Yahvé dit: « Tenez-vous sur les chemins et regardez, et demandez les anciens sentiers: « Où est le bon chemin? » et marchez-y, et vous trouverez le repos de vos âmes. Mais ils ont dit: « Nous n'y marcherons pas.
17 And I set watchmen over you: 'Attend to the sound of the horn', but they said: 'We will not attend.'
J'ai placé sur vous des sentinelles, en disant: « Écoutez le son de la trompette. Mais ils ont dit: « Nous n'écouterons pas ».
18 Therefore hear, ye nations, and know, O congregation, what is against them.
C'est pourquoi, nations, écoutez et sachez, assemblée, ce qui est au milieu d'elles.
19 Hear, O earth: Behold, I will bring evil upon this people, even the fruit of their thoughts, because they have not attended unto My words, and as for My teaching, they have rejected it.
Écoute, terre! Voici, je vais faire venir sur ce peuple le malheur, le fruit de ses pensées, parce qu'il n'a pas écouté mes paroles, et qu'il a rejeté ma loi.
20 To what purpose is to Me the frankincense that cometh from Sheba, and the sweet cane, from a far country? Your burnt-offerings are not acceptable, nor your sacrifices pleasing unto Me.
A quoi sert l'encens de Saba qui vient à moi, et le roseau d'un pays lointain? Vos holocaustes ne sont pas agréables, et vos sacrifices ne me plaisent pas. »
21 Therefore thus saith the LORD: Behold, I will lay stumblingblocks before this people, and the fathers and the sons together shall stumble against them, the neighbour and his friend, and they shall perish.
C'est pourquoi Yahvé dit: « Voici que je vais mettre des pierres d'achoppement devant ce peuple. Les pères et les fils ensemble trébucheront contre eux. Le voisin et son ami périront. »
22 Thus saith the LORD: Behold, a people cometh from the north country, and a great nation shall be roused from the uttermost parts of the earth.
Yahvé dit: « Voici qu'un peuple vient du pays du nord. Une grande nation se lève des extrémités de la terre.
23 They lay hold on bow and spear, they are cruel, and have no compassion; their voice is like the roaring sea, and they ride upon horses; set in array, as a man for war, against thee, O daughter of Zion.
Ils s'emparent de l'arc et de la lance. Ils sont cruels et sans pitié. Leur voix gronde comme la mer, ils montent à cheval, tous se rangent en bataille, comme un homme, contre toi, fille de Sion. »
24 'We have heard the fame thereof, our hands wax feeble, anguish hath taken hold of us, and pain, as of a woman in travail.'
Nous avons entendu son rapport. Nos mains se sont affaiblies. L'angoisse s'est emparée de nous, et les douleurs comme celles d'une femme en travail.
25 Go not forth into the field, nor walk by the way; for there is the sword of the enemy, and terror on every side.
Ne sortez pas dans les champs et ne vous promenez pas sur le chemin, car l'épée de l'ennemi et la terreur sont de tous côtés.
26 O daughter of my people, gird thee with sackcloth, and wallow thyself in ashes; make thee mourning, as for an only son, most bitter lamentation; for the spoiler shall suddenly come upon us.
Fille de mon peuple, revêts-toi d'un sac, et roule-toi dans la cendre! Porte le deuil, comme pour un fils unique, des lamentations très amères, car le destructeur va venir soudainement sur nous.
27 I have made thee a tower and a fortress among My people; that thou mayest know and try their way.
« J'ai fait de toi un testeur de métaux et une forteresse au milieu de mon peuple, pour que tu connaisses et éprouves leur voie.
28 They are all grievous revolters, going about with slanders; they are brass and iron; they all of them deal corruptly.
Ils sont tous de grands rebelles, qui vont et viennent pour calomnier. Ils sont de bronze et de fer. Ils sont tous corrompus.
29 The bellows blow fiercely, the lead is consumed of the fire; in vain doth the founder refine, for the wicked are not separated.
Le soufflet souffle avec violence, Le plomb se consume dans le feu. Le plomb se consume dans le feu. C'est en vain qu'on les affine, car les méchants ne sont pas arrachés.
30 Refuse silver shall men call them, because the LORD hath rejected them.
Les hommes les appelleront de l'argent rejeté, parce que Yahvé les a rejetés. »
