Jeremiah 5
1 Run ye to and fro through the streets of Jerusalem, and see now, and know, and seek in the broad places thereof, if ye can find a man, if there be any that doeth justly, that seeketh truth; and I will pardon her.
Discurríd por las plazas de Jerusalem, y mirád ahora, y sabéd, y buscád en sus plazas si hallareis varón, si haya alguno que haga juicio, que busque verdad; y yo la perdonaré.
2 And though they say: 'As the LORD liveth', surely they swear falsely.
Y si dijeren: Vive Jehová: por tanto jurarán mentira.
3 O LORD, are not Thine eyes upon truth? Thou hast stricken them, but they were not affected; Thou hast consumed them, but they have refused to receive correction; they have made their faces harder than a rock; they have refused to return.
O! Jehová, ¿no miran tus ojos a la verdad? Azotástelos, y no les dolió: consumístelos, no quisieron recibir castigo: endurecieron sus rostros más que la piedra, no quisieron tornarse.
4 And I said: 'Surely these are poor, they are foolish, for they know not the way of the LORD, nor the ordinance of their God;
Yo empero dije: Por cierto ellos son pobres: enloquecido han; pues no conocen el camino de Jehová, el juicio de su Dios.
5 I will get me unto the great men, and will speak unto them; for they know the way of the LORD, and the ordinance of their God.' But these had altogether broken the yoke, and burst the bands.
Irme he a los grandes, y hablarles he, porque ellos conocen el camino de Jehová, el juicio de su Dios. Ciertamente ellos también quebrantaron el yugo, rompieron las coyundas.
6 Wherefore a lion out of the forest doth slay them, a wolf of the deserts doth spoil them, a leopard watcheth over their cities, every one that goeth out thence is torn in pieces; because their transgressions are many, their backslidings are increased.
Por tanto león del monte los herirá, lobo del desierto los destruirá, tigre asechará sobre sus ciudades: cualquiera que de ellas saliere, será arrebatado; porque sus rebeliones se han multiplicado, multiplicádose han sus deslealtades.
7 Wherefore should I pardon thee? The children have forsaken Me, and sworn by no-gods; and when I had fed them to the full, they committed adultery, and assembled themselves in troops at the harlots' houses.
¿Cómo por esto te perdonaré? tus hijos me dejaron, y juraron por lo que no es Dios. Hartélos, y adulteraron, y en casa de ramera se juntaron en compañías.
8 They are become as well-fed horses, lusty stallions; every one neigheth after his neighbour's wife.
Caballos bien hartos fueron a la mañana: cada cual relinchaba a la mujer de su prójimo.
9 Shall I not punish for these things? saith the LORD; and shall not My soul be avenged on such a nation as this?
¿No había de hacer visitación sobre esto? dijo Jehová. ¿De una nación como esta, no se había de vengar mi alma?
10 Go ye up into her rows, and destroy, but make not a full end; take away her shoots; for they are not the LORD'S.
Escalád sus muros, y destruíd: mas no hagáis consumación. Quitád las almenas de sus muros; porque no son de Jehová.
11 For the house of Israel and the house of Judah have dealt very treacherously against Me, saith the LORD.
Porque rebelando se rebelaron contra mí la casa de Israel y la casa de Judá, dice Jehová.
12 They have belied the LORD, and said: 'It is not He, neither shall evil come upon us; neither shall we see sword nor famine;
Negaron a Jehová, y dijeron: Él no; y no vendrá sobre nosotros mal; ni veremos espada, ni hambre;
13 And the prophets shall become wind, and the word is not in them; thus be it done unto them.'
Mas los profetas serán como viento, y palabra no será en ellos: así les será hecho.
14 Wherefore thus saith the LORD, the God of hosts: Because ye speak this word, behold, I will make My words in thy mouth fire, and this people wood, and it shall devour them.
Por tanto, así dijo Jehová Dios de los ejércitos: Porque hablasteis esta palabra, he aquí, yo pongo en tu boca mis palabras por fuego, y a este pueblo por leños, y consumirlos ha.
15 Lo, I will bring a nation upon you from far, O house of Israel, saith the LORD; it is an enduring nation, it is an ancient nation, a nation whose language thou knowest not, neither understandest what they say.
He aquí, yo traigo sobre vosotros nación de lejos, o! casa de Israel, dice Jehová, nación robusta, nación antigua, nación cuya lengua ignorarás, y no entenderás lo que hablare.
16 Their quiver is an open sepulchre, they are all mighty men.
Su aljaba como sepulcro abierto, todos valientes.
17 And they shall eat up thy harvest, and thy bread, they shall eat up thy sons and thy daughters, they shall eat up thy flocks and thy herds, they shall eat up thy vines and thy fig-trees; they shall batter thy fortified cities, wherein thou trusteth, with the sword.
Y comerá tu mies y tu pan: comerá tus hijos y tus hijas: comerá tus ovejas y tus vacas: comerá tus viñas y tus higueras; y tus ciudades fuertes en que tú confías, tornará en nada a cuchillo.
18 But even in those days, saith the LORD, I will not make a full end with you.
También en aquellos días, dijo Jehová, no os acabaré del todo.
19 And it shall come to pass, when ye shall say: 'Wherefore hath the LORD our God done all these things unto us?' then shalt Thou say unto them: 'Like as ye have forsaken Me, and served strange gods in your land, so shall ye serve strangers in a land that is not yours.'
Y será que cuando dijereis: ¿Por qué hizo Jehová el Dios nuestro con nosotros todas estas cosas? entonces decirles has: De la manera que me dejasteis a mí, y servisteis a dioses ajenos en vuestra tierra, así serviréis a extraños en tierra ajena.
20 Declare ye this in the house of Jacob, and announce it in Judah, saying:
Denunciád esto en la casa de Jacob, y hacéd que esto se oiga en Judá, diciendo:
21 Hear now this, O foolish people, and without understanding, that have eyes, and see not, that have ears, and hear not:
Oíd ahora esto, pueblo insensato, y sin corazón; que tienen ojos y no ven; que tienen oídos y no oyen.
22 Fear ye not Me? saith the LORD; Will ye not tremble at My presence? Who have placed the sand for the bound of the sea, an everlasting ordinance, which it cannot pass; and though the waves thereof toss themselves, yet can they not prevail; though they roar, yet can they not pass over it.
¿A mí no temeréis, dice Jehová? ¿delante de mi presencia no os amedrentaréis? que puse arena por término a la mar por ordenación eterna, la cual no quebrantará: Levantarse han tempestades, mas no prevalecerán: bramarán sus ondas, mas no lo pasarán.
23 But this people hath a revolting and a rebellious heart; they are revolted, and gone.
Empero este pueblo tiene corazón falso, y rebelde: tornáronse, y se fueron.
24 Neither say they in their heart: 'Let us now fear the LORD our God, that giveth the former rain, and the latter in due season; that keepeth for us the appointed weeks of the harvest.'
Y no dijeron en su corazón: Temamos ahora a Jehová Dios nuestro, que da lluvia temprana y tardía en su tiempo: los tiempos establecidos de la segada nos guardará.
25 Your iniquities have turned away these things, and your sins have withholden good from you.
Vuestras iniquidades han estorbado estas cosas; y vuestros pecados impidieron de vosotros el bien:
26 For among My people are found wicked men; they pry, as fowlers lie in wait; they set a trap, they catch men.
Porque fueron hallados en mi pueblo impíos: asechaban como quien pone lazos: asentaron la perdición para tomar hombres.
27 As a cage is full of birds, so are their houses full of deceit; therefore they are become great, and waxen rich;
Como jaula llena de pájaros, así están sus casas llenas de engaño: así se hicieron grandes y ricos,
28 They are waxen fat, they are become sleek; yea, they overpass in deeds of wickedness; they plead not the cause, the cause of the fatherless, that they might make it to prosper; and the right of the needy do they not judge.
Engordáronse, e hicieron tez resplandeciente; y aun sobrepujaron hecho de malo: no juzgaron la causa, la causa del huérfano; e hiciéronse prósperos, y la causa de los pobres no juzgaron.
29 Shall I not punish for these things? saith the LORD; Shall not My soul be avenged on such a nation as this?
¿Sobre esto no tengo de visitar? dice Jehová; ¿y de tal nación no se vengará mi alma?
30 An appalling and horrible thing is come to pass in the land:
Cosa espantosa y fea es hecha en la tierra:
31 The prophets prophesy in the service of falsehood, and the priests bear rule at their beck; and My people love to have it so; What then will ye do in the end thereof?
Los profetas profetizaron mentira, y los sacerdotes tomaban por sus manos; y mi pueblo lo quiso así. ¿Qué pues haréis a su fin?
