Jeremiah 42

1 Then all the captains of the forces, and Johanan the son of Kareah, and Jezaniah the son of Hoshaiah, and all the people from the least even unto the greatest, came near,

അപ്പോൾ കാരേഹിന്റെ മകനായ യോഹാനാനും ഹോശയ്യാവിന്റെ മകനായ യെസന്യാവും ഉൾപ്പെടെ എല്ലാ സൈന്യാധിപന്മാരും ഏറ്റവും ചെറിയവർമുതൽ ഏറ്റവും ഉന്നതർവരെയുള്ള സകലജനങ്ങളും അടുത്തുവന്ന്,

2 and said unto Jeremiah the prophet: 'Let, we pray thee, our supplication be accepted before thee, and pray for us unto the LORD thy God, even for all this remnant; for we are left but a few of many, as thine eyes do behold us;

യിരെമ്യാപ്രവാചകനോട് ഇപ്രകാരം അഭ്യർഥിച്ചു, “ഞങ്ങളുടെ അപേക്ഷ മാനിച്ച്, ഈ അവശേഷിച്ച ജനത്തിനുവേണ്ടി അങ്ങയുടെ ദൈവമായ യഹോവയോടു പ്രാർഥിച്ചാലും. ഒരിക്കൽ അസംഖ്യമായിരുന്ന ഞങ്ങൾ അങ്ങേക്ക് ഇപ്പോൾ കാണാൻ കഴിയുന്നതുപോലെ വളരെ ചുരുക്കംപേരായി ശേഷിച്ചിരിക്കുന്നു.

3 that the LORD thy God may tell us the way wherein we should walk, and the thing that we should do.'

ഞങ്ങൾ എങ്ങോട്ട് പോകണമെന്നും എന്തു ചെയ്യണമെന്നും അങ്ങയുടെ ദൈവമായ യഹോവ ഞങ്ങളോട് അരുളിച്ചെയ്യേണ്ടുന്നതിനായി പ്രാർഥിച്ചാലും.”

4 Then Jeremiah the prophet said unto them: 'I have heard you; behold, I will pray unto the LORD your God according to your words; and it shall come to pass, that whatsoever thing the LORD shall answer you, I will declare it unto you; I will keep nothing back from you.'

അപ്പോൾ യിരെമ്യാപ്രവാചകൻ അവരോടു പറഞ്ഞു: “നിങ്ങൾ പറഞ്ഞതു ഞാൻ കേട്ടിരിക്കുന്നു. നിങ്ങളുടെ അപേക്ഷപ്രകാരം നിങ്ങളുടെ ദൈവമായ യഹോവയോടു ഞാൻ പ്രാർഥിക്കാം. ദൈവം നിങ്ങൾക്കു മറുപടിയായി നൽകുന്ന സന്ദേശം മുഴുവൻ ഞാൻ നിങ്ങളെ അറിയിക്കുകയും ചെയ്യാം. ഒരു വാക്കുപോലും ഞാൻ മറച്ചുവെക്കുകയില്ല.”

5 Then they said to Jeremiah: 'The LORD be a true and faithful witness against us, if we do not even according to all the word wherewith the LORD thy God shall send thee to us.

അവർ യിരെമ്യാവിനോടു പറഞ്ഞു, “അങ്ങയുടെ ദൈവമായ യഹോവ അങ്ങയിൽക്കൂടി ഞങ്ങളെ അറിയിക്കുന്ന എല്ലാ വചനവും അനുസരിച്ചു ഞങ്ങൾ പ്രവർത്തിക്കാതിരിക്കുന്നപക്ഷം യഹോവ നമുക്കുമധ്യേ സത്യവും വിശ്വസ്തതയുമുള്ള സാക്ഷിയായിരിക്കട്ടെ.

6 Whether it be good, or whether it be evil, we will hearken to the voice of the LORD our God, to whom we send thee; that it may be well with us, when we hearken to the voice of the LORD our God.'

ഞങ്ങളുടെ ദൈവമായ യഹോവയുടെ വാക്ക് ഗുണമായാലും ദോഷമായാലും ഞങ്ങൾ അനുസരിക്കും. അവിടത്തെ വാക്കു കേട്ടനുസരിച്ച് ഞങ്ങൾക്കു നന്മയുണ്ടാകേണ്ടതിനായി ഞങ്ങൾ അങ്ങയെ ദൈവസന്നിധിയിലേക്കു പറഞ്ഞയയ്ക്കുകയാണ്.”

7 And it came to pass after ten days, that the word of the LORD came unto Jeremiah.

പത്തുദിവസം കഴിഞ്ഞിട്ട് യിരെമ്യാവിന് യഹോവയുടെ അരുളപ്പാടുണ്ടായി.

8 Then called he Johanan the son of Kareah, and all the captains of the forces that were with him, and all the people from the least even to the greatest,

അതുകൊണ്ട് അദ്ദേഹം കാരേഹിന്റെ മകനായ യോഹാനാനെയും അദ്ദേഹത്തോടൊപ്പമുള്ള എല്ലാ സൈന്യാധിപന്മാരെയും ഏറ്റവും ചെറിയവർമുതൽ ഏറ്റവും ഉന്നതർവരെയുള്ള സകലജനത്തെയും വിളിച്ചുകൂട്ടി.

9 and said unto them: 'Thus saith the LORD, the God of Israel, unto whom ye sent me to present your supplication before Him:

യിരെമ്യാവ് അവരോട് ഇപ്രകാരം പറഞ്ഞു: “നിങ്ങളുടെ അപേക്ഷ അറിയിക്കുന്നതിനായി നിങ്ങൾ ആരുടെ അടുക്കലേക്ക് എന്നെ അയച്ചുവോ, ഇസ്രായേലിന്റെ ദൈവമായ ആ യഹോവ ഇപ്രകാരം അരുളിച്ചെയ്യുന്നു:

10 If ye will still abide in this land, then will I build you, and not pull you down, and I will plant you, and not pluck you up; for I repent Me of the evil that I have done unto you.

‘നിങ്ങൾ ഈ ദേശത്തുതന്നെ താമസിക്കുന്നപക്ഷം ഞാൻ നിങ്ങളെ പൊളിച്ചുകളയാതെ പണിയുകയും പിഴുതുകളയാതെ നടുകയും ചെയ്യും. കാരണം നിങ്ങളുടെമേൽ ഞാൻ വരുത്തിയ അനർഥത്തെപ്പറ്റി അനുതപിക്കുന്നു.

11 Be not afraid of the king of Babylon, of whom ye are afraid; be not afraid of him, saith the LORD; for I am with you to save you, and to deliver you from his hand.

നിങ്ങൾ ഇപ്പോൾ ഭയപ്പെടുന്ന ബാബേൽരാജാവിനെ ഇനി ഭയപ്പെടേണ്ട. അദ്ദേഹത്തിന്റെ കൈയിൽനിന്ന് നിങ്ങളെ മോചിപ്പിക്കുകയും രക്ഷിക്കുകയും ചെയ്യേണ്ടതിന് ഞാൻ നിങ്ങളോടുകൂടെയുള്ളതിനാൽ നിങ്ങൾ അദ്ദേഹത്തെ ഭയപ്പെടേണ്ട എന്ന് യഹോവ അരുളിച്ചെയ്യുന്നു.

12 And I will grant you compassion, that he may have compassion upon you, and cause you to return to your own land.

അദ്ദേഹത്തിനു നിങ്ങളോട് അനുകമ്പ തോന്നിയിട്ട് നിങ്ങളുടെ സ്വന്തം ദേശത്തേക്കു നിങ്ങളെ മടക്കി അയയ്ക്കാൻ തക്കവണ്ണം ഞാൻ നിങ്ങളോടു കരുണകാണിക്കും.’

13 But if ye say: We will not abide in this land; so that ye hearken not to the voice of the LORD your God;

“എന്നാൽ നിങ്ങൾ: ‘ഇല്ല, യുദ്ധം കാണാനില്ലാത്തതും കാഹളനാദം കേൾക്കാനില്ലാത്തതും ആഹാരത്തിനു മുട്ടില്ലാത്തതുമായ ഈജിപ്റ്റുദേശത്തേക്കു ഞങ്ങൾ പോകും, എന്നു പറഞ്ഞുകൊണ്ട് നിങ്ങളുടെ ദൈവമായ യഹോവയുടെ വാക്ക് അനുസരിക്കാതെ, ഈ ദേശത്തു ഞങ്ങൾ പാർക്കുകയില്ല എന്നു പറയുന്നപക്ഷം,’

14 saying: No; but we will go into the land of Egypt, where we shall see no war, nor hear the sound of the horn, nor have hunger of bread; and there will we abide;

15 now therefore hear ye the word of the LORD, O remnant of Judah: Thus saith the LORD of hosts, the God of Israel: If ye wholly set your faces to enter into Egypt, and go to sojourn there;

യെഹൂദയുടെ ശേഷിപ്പായ ജനങ്ങളേ, യഹോവയുടെ വചനം കേട്ടുകൊൾക. ഇസ്രായേലിന്റെ ദൈവമായ സൈന്യങ്ങളുടെ യഹോവ ഇപ്രകാരം അരുളിച്ചെയ്യുന്നു: ‘നിങ്ങൾ ഈജിപ്റ്റിലേക്കു പോകാൻ മനസ്സുവെച്ച് അവിടെപ്പോയി പാർക്കുന്നെങ്കിൽ,

16 then it shall come to pass, that the sword, which ye fear, shall overtake you there in the land of Egypt, and the famine, whereof ye are afraid, shall follow hard after you there in Egypt; and there ye shall die.

നിങ്ങൾ ഭയപ്പെടുന്ന വാൾ അവിടെ ഈജിപ്റ്റുദേശത്തുവെച്ചു നിങ്ങളെ പിടികൂടും; നിങ്ങൾ പേടിക്കുന്ന ക്ഷാമം അവിടെ ഈജിപ്റ്റിൽവെച്ചു നിങ്ങളെ വിടാതെ പിൻതുടരും. അങ്ങനെ അവിടെവെച്ച് നിങ്ങൾ മരിക്കും.

17 So shall it be with all the men that set their faces to go into Egypt to sojourn there; they shall die by the sword, by the famine, and by the pestilence; and none of them shall remain or escape from the evil that I will bring upon them.

അതിനാൽ, ഈജിപ്റ്റിൽ പാർക്കേണ്ടതിന് അവിടേക്കു പോകാൻ മനസ്സുവെക്കുന്ന സകലജനവും വാൾകൊണ്ടും ക്ഷാമംകൊണ്ടും മഹാമാരികൊണ്ടും മരിക്കും; അവരുടെമേൽ ഞാൻ വരുത്താൻപോകുന്ന അനർഥത്തിൽ അകപ്പെടാതെ ആരും ശേഷിക്കുകയോ അവിടെനിന്നു രക്ഷപ്പെടുകയോ ചെയ്യുകയില്ല.’

18 For thus saith the LORD of hosts, the God of Israel: As Mine anger and My fury hath been poured forth upon the inhabitants of Jerusalem, so shall My fury be poured forth upon you, when ye shall enter into Egypt; and ye shall be an execration, and an astonishment, and a curse, and a reproach; and ye shall see this place no more.

ഇസ്രായേലിന്റെ ദൈവമായ സൈന്യങ്ങളുടെ യഹോവ ഇപ്രകാരം അരുളിച്ചെയ്യുന്നു: ‘ജെറുശലേംനിവാസികളുടെമേൽ എന്റെ കോപവും ക്രോധവും ഞാൻ ചൊരിഞ്ഞതുപോലെ, നിങ്ങൾ ഈജിപ്റ്റിലേക്കു പോകുമ്പോൾ എന്റെ ക്രോധം നിങ്ങളുടെമേൽ ചൊരിയും. നിങ്ങൾ ഒരു ശാപമായി, ഒരു ഭീതിവിഷയമായിത്തീരും; ഒരു ശാപവും നിന്ദാപാത്രവുമായിത്തീരും; ഈ ദേശം നിങ്ങൾ ഇനിയൊരിക്കലും കാണുകയുമില്ല.’

19 The LORD hath spoken concerning you, O remnant of Judah: Go ye not into Egypt; know certainly that I have forewarned you this day.

“യെഹൂദയുടെ ശേഷിപ്പേ, ‘നിങ്ങൾ ഈജിപ്റ്റിലേക്കു പോകരുത്’ എന്ന് യഹോവ നിങ്ങളോട് അരുളിച്ചെയ്തിരിക്കുന്നു. ഇന്ന് നിങ്ങൾക്കു ഞാൻ മുന്നറിയിപ്പായി നൽകുന്ന ഈ വചനം നിങ്ങൾ വ്യക്തമായി മനസ്സിലാക്കുക.

20 For ye have dealt deceitfully against your own souls; for ye sent me unto the LORD your God, saying: Pray for us unto the LORD our God; and according unto all that the LORD our God shall say, so declare unto us, and we will do it;

‘ഞങ്ങളുടെ ദൈവമായ യഹോവയോട് ഞങ്ങൾക്കുവേണ്ടി പ്രാർഥിച്ചാലും, ഞങ്ങളുടെ ദൈവമായ യഹോവ അരുളിച്ചെയ്യുന്നതെന്തായാലും അതു ഞങ്ങളെ അറിയിച്ചാലും; ഞങ്ങൾ അതു കേട്ടനുസരിക്കും,’ എന്നു പറഞ്ഞ് നിങ്ങളുടെ ദൈവമായ യഹോവയുടെ അടുക്കലേക്കു നിങ്ങൾതന്നെ എന്നെ പറഞ്ഞയച്ചതിൽ നിങ്ങൾ നിങ്ങളെത്തന്നെ വഞ്ചിച്ചിരിക്കുന്നു.

21 and I have this day declared it to you; but ye have not hearkened to the voice of the LORD your God in any thing for which He hath sent me unto you.

ഞാൻ ഇന്നു നിങ്ങളോടു സംസാരിച്ചിരിക്കുന്നു, എന്നാൽ നിങ്ങളോട് അറിയിക്കാൻ യഹോവ എന്നെ അയച്ച കാര്യത്തിൽ നിങ്ങൾ നിങ്ങളുടെ ദൈവമായ യഹോവയുടെ വാക്ക് ഇപ്പോഴും അനുസരിച്ചിട്ടില്ല.

22 Now therefore know certainly that ye shall die by the sword, by the famine, and by the pestilence, in the place whither ye desire to go to sojourn there.'

അതിനാൽ നിങ്ങൾ പോയി പാർക്കാനുദ്ദേശിക്കുന്ന സ്ഥലത്തുവെച്ച് നിങ്ങൾ വാൾകൊണ്ടും ക്ഷാമംകൊണ്ടും മഹാമാരികൊണ്ടും മരിക്കുമെന്ന് ഇപ്പോൾ വ്യക്തമായി അറിഞ്ഞുകൊൾക.”
