Jeremiah 42

1 Then all the captains of the forces, and Johanan the son of Kareah, and Jezaniah the son of Hoshaiah, and all the people from the least even unto the greatest, came near,

Da kamen alle Heeresobersten mitsamt Jochanan, Karechs Sohn, sowie Asarja, Maasejas Sohn, und allem Volk vom Kleinsten bis zum Größten

2 and said unto Jeremiah the prophet: 'Let, we pray thee, our supplication be accepted before thee, and pray for us unto the LORD thy God, even for all this remnant; for we are left but a few of many, as thine eyes do behold us;

und sprachen zum Propheten Jeremias: "Möge unsre Bitte Erhörung bei dir finden; bete du für uns zum Herrn, deinem Gott, für diesen ganzen Rest! Von vielen sind wir bloß ein kleines Häuflein übriggeblieben, wie du uns vor dir siehst.

3 that the LORD thy God may tell us the way wherein we should walk, and the thing that we should do.'

Möge uns der Herr, dein Gott, den Weg kundtun, den wir betreten, und den Beschluß, den wir jetzt fassen sollen!"

4 Then Jeremiah the prophet said unto them: 'I have heard you; behold, I will pray unto the LORD your God according to your words; and it shall come to pass, that whatsoever thing the LORD shall answer you, I will declare it unto you; I will keep nothing back from you.'

Da sprach zu ihnen Jeremias, der Prophet: "Nun gut! Ich will zum Herren, eurem Gotte, nach eurem Wunsche beten und sag euch den Bescheid, den euch der Herr zukommen läßt. Nicht ein Wort werde ich vor euch verschweigen."

5 Then they said to Jeremiah: 'The LORD be a true and faithful witness against us, if we do not even according to all the word wherewith the LORD thy God shall send thee to us.

Da sprachen sie zu Jeremias: "Der Herr sei gegen uns ein ganz wahrhaftiger und ganz genauer Ankläger, falls wir nicht ganz genau, den Weisungen gemäß, so tun, wie es der Herr durch dich uns anweist,

6 Whether it be good, or whether it be evil, we will hearken to the voice of the LORD our God, to whom we send thee; that it may be well with us, when we hearken to the voice of the LORD our God.'

sei's Gutes oder Schlimmes! Nur auf die Stimme unseres Herrn und Gottes, zu dem wir dich entsenden, wollen wir hören. Daß es uns gut ergehe, weil wir auf des Herren, unseres Gottes, Stimme hören wollen!"

7 And it came to pass after ten days, that the word of the LORD came unto Jeremiah.

Und nach zehn Tagen erging das Herrenwort an Jeremias.

8 Then called he Johanan the son of Kareah, and all the captains of the forces that were with him, and all the people from the least even to the greatest,

Da rief er Karechs Sohn, Jochanaan, und alle Heeresobersten bei ihm, sowie das ganze Volk, vom Kleinsten bis zum Größten.

9 and said unto them: 'Thus saith the LORD, the God of Israel, unto whom ye sent me to present your supplication before Him:

Er sprach zu ihnen. "So spricht der Herr, Gott Israels, zu dem ihr mich gesandt, damit ich euer Flehen vor ihn brächte:

10 If ye will still abide in this land, then will I build you, and not pull you down, and I will plant you, and not pluck you up; for I repent Me of the evil that I have done unto you.

'Wenn ihr in diesem Lande bleibet, dann baue ich euch auf und reiße es nicht wieder ein und pflanze euch darein und reiße es nicht wieder aus. Denn mich gereut des Unheils, das ich euch angetan.

11 Be not afraid of the king of Babylon, of whom ye are afraid; be not afraid of him, saith the LORD; for I am with you to save you, and to deliver you from his hand.

Habt keine Angst vor Babels König, vor dem ihr jetzt in Schrecken seid! Habt keine Angst vor ihm!' Ein Spruch des Herrn. 'Ich bin mit euch, um euch zu helfen und euch aus seiner Hand zu retten.

12 And I will grant you compassion, that he may have compassion upon you, and cause you to return to your own land.

Ich lasse euch Erbarmen finden, daß er sich euer erbarmt und euch in eurem Lande wohnen läßt.'

13 But if ye say: We will not abide in this land; so that ye hearken not to the voice of the LORD your God;

Doch wenn ihr denkt: 'Wir bleiben nicht in diesem Land,' und achtet ihr nicht auf des Herren, eures Gottes, Stimme

14 saying: No; but we will go into the land of Egypt, where we shall see no war, nor hear the sound of the horn, nor have hunger of bread; and there will we abide;

und sprechet: "Nein! Nach Ägypten ziehen wir. Dort hören wir vom Krieg nichts mehr und müssen nicht Trompetenschall vernehmen und haben nicht nach Brot zu hungern. Dort lassen wir uns nieder.'

15 now therefore hear ye the word of the LORD, O remnant of Judah: Thus saith the LORD of hosts, the God of Israel: If ye wholly set your faces to enter into Egypt, and go to sojourn there;

Nun denn, so hört für solchen Fall das Wort des Herrn, die ihr von Juda übrig seid! So spricht der Heeresscharen Herr, Gott Israels: Beharrt ihr auf der Reise nach Ägypten, und zieht ihr hin, als Gäste dort zu weilen,

16 then it shall come to pass, that the sword, which ye fear, shall overtake you there in the land of Egypt, and the famine, whereof ye are afraid, shall follow hard after you there in Egypt; and there ye shall die.

dann trifft euch im Ägypterland das Schwert, vor dem ihr bangt; die Hungersnot, vor der ihr zagt, verfolgt euch bis in das Ägypterland. Dort sterbet ihr.

17 So shall it be with all the men that set their faces to go into Egypt to sojourn there; they shall die by the sword, by the famine, and by the pestilence; and none of them shall remain or escape from the evil that I will bring upon them.

Und alle Männer, die darauf beharren, in das Ägypterland zu kommen, um dort als Gäste zu verweilen, erliegen durch das Schwert, den Hunger und die Seuche. Dem Unheil, das ich über sie verhänge, entkommt, entrinnt nicht einer unter ihnen.'

18 For thus saith the LORD of hosts, the God of Israel: As Mine anger and My fury hath been poured forth upon the inhabitants of Jerusalem, so shall My fury be poured forth upon you, when ye shall enter into Egypt; and ye shall be an execration, and an astonishment, and a curse, and a reproach; and ye shall see this place no more.

So spricht der Heeresscharen Herr, Gott Israels: 'Wie sich mein Zorn und meine Wut einst über die Bewohner von Jerusalem ergossen, so wird mein Grimm sich über euch ergießen, wenn ihr nach Ägypten zieht. Ihr werdet zur Verwünschung, zum Entsetzen, zum Fluch und zum Gespött. Ihr sehet diesen Ort nicht wieder.'

19 The LORD hath spoken concerning you, O remnant of Judah: Go ye not into Egypt; know certainly that I have forewarned you this day.

Gesagt hat's euch der Herr, ihr Rest von Juda: 'Zieht mitnichten nach Ägypten! Ihr werdet es erfahren. Ich warne euch im voraus.'

20 For ye have dealt deceitfully against your own souls; for ye sent me unto the LORD your God, saying: Pray for us unto the LORD our God; and according unto all that the LORD our God shall say, so declare unto us, and we will do it;

Ihr haltet mit Gefahr für euer Leben einen nur zum besten; ihr sandtet mich zum Herren, eurem Gott, und sprachet: 'Bete für uns zum Herren, unserm Gott! Was unser Herr und Gott verkündet, dieses melde uns! Wir tun es dann.'

21 and I have this day declared it to you; but ye have not hearkened to the voice of the LORD your God in any thing for which He hath sent me unto you.

Ich hab es heute euch vermeldet. Ihr aber hörtet auf die Stimme des Herrn, eures Gottes, in nichts, womit er mich für euch beauftragt hat.

22 Now therefore know certainly that ye shall die by the sword, by the famine, and by the pestilence, in the place whither ye desire to go to sojourn there.'

Nun werdet ihr's erfahren: Durch Schwert, durch Hunger und durch Pest erlieget ihr am Orte, wohin es euch zu ziehn gelüstet, um dort als Gäste zu verweilen."
