Jeremiah 37
1 And Zedekiah the son of Josiah reigned as king, instead of Coniah the son of Jehoiakim, whom Nebuchadrezzar king of Babylon made king in the land of Judah.
Y reinó el rey Sedecías, hijo de Josías, en lugar de Conías, hijo de Joacim, al cual Nabucodonosor, rey de Babilonia, había constituido por rey en la tierra de Judá.
2 But neither he, nor his servants, nor the people of the land, did hearken unto the words of the LORD, which He spoke by the prophet Jeremiah.
Y no obedeció él, ni sus siervos, ni el pueblo de la tierra a las palabras de Jehová, que dijo por el profeta Jeremías.
3 And Zedekiah the king sent Jehucal the son of Shelemiah, and Zephaniah the son of Maaseiah the priest, to the prophet Jeremiah, saying: 'Pray now unto the LORD our God for us.'
Envió pues el rey Sedecías a Jucal, hijo de Selemías, y a Sofonías, hijo de Maasías sacerdote, a Jeremías profeta, para que le dijesen: Ruega ahora por nosotros a Jehová nuestro Dios.
4 Now Jeremiah came in and went out among the people; for they had not put him into prison.
(Y Jeremías entraba y salía en medio del pueblo, porque no le habían puesto en la casa de la cárcel.
5 And Pharaoh's army was come forth out of Egypt; and when the Chaldeans that besieged Jerusalem heard tidings of them, they broke up from Jerusalem.
Y como el ejército de Faraón hubo salido de Egipto, y vino la fama de ellos a oídos de los Caldeos, que tenían cercada a Jerusalem, se partieron de Jerusalem.)
6 Then came the word of the LORD unto the prophet Jeremiah, saying:
Entonces fue palabra de Jehová a Jeremías profeta, diciendo:
7 'Thus saith the LORD, the God of Israel: Thus shall ye say to the king of Judah, that sent you unto Me to inquire of Me: Behold, Pharaoh's army, which is come forth to help you, shall return to Egypt into their own land.
Así dijo Jehová Dios de Israel: Diréis así al rey de Judá que os envió a mí, para que me preguntaseis: He aquí que el ejército de Faraón, que había salido en vuestro socorro, se volvió a su tierra en Egipto.
8 And the Chaldeans shall return, and fight against this city; and they shall take it, and burn it with fire.
Y tornarán los Caldeos, y combatirán esta ciudad, y tomarla han, y meterla han a fuego.
9 Thus saith the LORD: Deceive not yourselves, saying: The Chaldeans shall surely depart from us; for they shall not depart.
Así dijo Jehová: No engañéis vuestras almas diciendo: Sin duda los Caldeos se han ido de nosotros; porque no se irán.
10 For though ye had smitten the whole army of the Chaldeans that fight against you, and there remained but wounded men among them, yet would they rise up every man in his tent, and burn this city with fire.'
Porque aunque vosotros hirieseis todo el ejército de los Caldeos que pelean con vosotros, y quedasen de ellos hombres alanceados, cada uno se levantará de su tienda, y pondrán a fuego esta ciudad.
11 And it came to pass, that when the army of the Chaldeans was broken up from Jerusalem for fear of Pharaoh's army,
Y aconteció que como el ejército de los Caldeos se fue de Jerusalem a causa del ejército de Faraón,
12 then Jeremiah went forth out of Jerusalem to go into the land of Benjamin, to receive his portion there, in the midst of the people.
Jeremías se salió de Jerusalem para irse a tierra de Ben-jamín, para escabullirse de allí, de en medio del pueblo.
13 And when he was in the gate of Benjamin, a captain of the ward was there, whose name was Irijah, the son of Shelemiah, the son of Hananiah; and he laid hold on Jeremiah the prophet, saying: 'Thou fallest away to the Chaldeans.'
Y cuando fue a la puerta de Ben-jamín, estaba allí un prepósito que se llamaba Jerías, hijo de Selemías, hijo de Jananías: este prendió a Jeremías profeta, diciendo: Tú te acuestas a los Caldeos.
14 Then said Jeremiah: 'It is false; I fall not away to the Chaldeans'; but he hearkened not to him; so Irijah laid hold on Jeremiah, and brought him to the princes.
Y Jeremías dijo: Es falso, no me acuesto a los Caldeos. Más él no le escuchó, antes prendió Jerías a Jeremías, y trájole delante de los príncipes.
15 And the princes were wroth with Jeremiah, and smote him, and put him in prison in the house of Jonathan the scribe; for they had made that the prison.
Y los príncipes se airaron contra Jeremías, y azotáronle, y pusiéronle en la casa de la cárcel, en casa de Jonatán escriba; porque aquella habían hecho casa de cárcel.
16 When Jeremiah was come into the dungeon-house, and into the cells, and Jeremiah had remained there many days;
Siendo pues entrado Jeremías en la casa de la mazmorra, y en las camarillas de la prisión, y habiendo estado allá Jeremías por muchos días,
17 then Zedekiah the king sent, and fetched him; and the king asked him secretly in his house, and said: 'Is there any word from the LORD?' And Jeremiah said: 'There is.' He said also: 'Thou shalt be delivered into the hand of the king of Babylon.'
El rey Sedecías envió, y le sacó; y preguntóle el rey escondidamente en su casa, y dijo: ¿Es palabra de Jehová? y Jeremías dijo: Es. Y dijo más: En mano del rey de Babilonia serás entregado.
18 Moreover Jeremiah said unto king Zedekiah: 'Wherein have I sinned against thee, or against thy servants, or against this people, that ye have put me in prison?
Y dijo Jeremías al rey Sedecías: ¿En qué pequé contra ti, y contra tus siervos, y contra este pueblo, porque me pusieseis en la casa de la cárcel?
19 Where now are your prophets that prophesied unto you, saying: The king of Babylon shall not come against you, nor against this land?
Y ¿adónde están vuestros profetas, que os profetizaban, diciendo: No vendrá el rey de Babilonia contra vosotros, ni contra esta tierra?
20 And now hear, I pray thee, O my lord the king: let my supplication, I pray thee, be presented before thee; that thou cause me not to return to the house of Jonathan the scribe, lest I die there.'
Ahora pues oye, ruego, mi señor el rey: Caiga ahora mi ruego delante de ti, y no me hagas volver en casa de Jonatán escriba, porque no me muera allí.
21 Then Zedekiah the king commanded, and they committed Jeremiah into the court of the guard, and they gave him daily a loaf of bread out of the bakers' street, until all the bread in the city was spent. Thus Jeremiah remained in the court of the guard.
Y mandó el rey Sedecías, y depositaron a Jeremías en el patio de la guarda, haciéndole dar una torta de pan al día, de la plaza de los panaderos, hasta que todo el pan de la ciudad se gastase. Y quedó Jeremías en el patio de la guarda.
