Jeremiah 3

1 ...saying: If a man put away his wife, and she go from him, and become another man's, may he return unto her again? Will not that land be greatly polluted? But thou hast played the harlot with many lovers; and wouldest thou yet return to Me? saith the LORD.

Cuando un hombre despide a su mujer, y apartándose esta de él, se casa con otro marido, ¿volverá él acaso a ella de nuevo? ¿no quedará aquella mujer totalmente contaminada? Pero tú, que fornicaste con muchos amantes, no obstante ello, vuélvete a Mí —oráculo de Yahvé.

2 Lift up thine eyes unto the high hills, and see: Where hast thou not been lain with? By the ways hast thou sat for them, as an Arabian in the wilderness; and thou hast polluted the land with thy harlotries and with thy wickedness.

Alza tus ojos a los collados y mira: ¿Hay lugar donde no te hayas prostituido? Te sentabas junto a los caminos, como el árabe en el desierto, en acecho de los (pasajeros), y contaminaste la tierra con tus fornicaciones y maldades.

3 Therefore the showers have been withheld, and there hath been no latter rain; yet thou hadst a harlot's forehead, thou refusedst to be ashamed.

Por eso se detuvieron las lluvias, y faltaron las aguas de primavera, pero tú guardas el semblante de ramera; no tienes rubor.

4 Didst thou not just now cry unto Me: 'My father, Thou art the friend of my youth.

Me dices ahora: “¡Padre mío! Tú eres el amigo de mi juventud.

5 Will He bear grudge for ever? Will He keep it to the end?' Behold, thou hast spoken, but hast done evil things, and hast had thy way.

¿Acaso guardará Él (la ira) continuamente? ¿se enojará para siempre?” Así dices, y con todo cometes maldades a más no poder.

6 And the LORD said unto me in the days of Josiah the king: 'Hast thou seen that which backsliding Israel did? she went up upon every high mountain and under every leafy tree, and there played the harlot.

Me dijo Yahvé en los días del rey Josías: “¿Has visto lo que hizo la apóstata Israel? Se fue a todo monte alto y bajo todo árbol frondoso, y cometió allí fornicación.

7 And I said: After she hath done all these things, she will return unto me; but she returned not. And her treacherous sister Judah saw it.

Dije Yo: Después de haber ella hecho todo esto, se volverá a Mí, pero no se volvió. Vio esto su hermana, la pérfida Judá;

8 And I saw, when, forasmuch as backsliding Israel had committed adultery, I had put her away and given her a bill of divorcement, that yet treacherous Judah her sister feared not; but she also went and played the harlot;

y vio también que a causa de todos sus adulterios que había cometido la apóstata Israel, Yo la había despedido, dándole el libelo de repudio; y con todo no se amedrentó su hermana, la pérfida Judá, sino que fue y fornicó también ella.

9 and it came to pass through the lightness of her harlotry, that the land was polluted, and she committed adultery with stones and with stocks;

Con su tumultuosa fornicación contaminó la tierra, cometiendo adulterio con la piedra y con el leño.

10 and yet for all this her treacherous sister Judah hath not returned unto Me with her whole heart, but feignedly, saith the LORD —

A pesar de todo esto, su pérfida hermana, Judá, no se volvió a Mí de todo corazón, sino fingidamente” —oráculo de Yahvé.

11 even the LORD said unto me — backsliding Israel hath proved herself more righteous than treacherous Judah.

Entonces me dijo Yahvé: “La apóstata Israel se ha mostrado más justa que la pérfida Judá.

12 Go, and proclaim these words toward the north, and say: Return, thou backsliding Israel, saith the LORD; I will not frown upon you; for I am merciful, saith the LORD, I will not bear grudge for ever.

Anda, pues, y grita estas palabras hacia el norte, y di: Conviértete, apóstata Israel, —oráculo de Yahvé; no os miraré con rostro (airado), porque soy misericordioso, —oráculo de Yahvé—; no me airaré para siempre,

13 Only acknowledge thine iniquity, that thou hast transgressed against the LORD thy God, and hast scattered thy ways to the strangers under every leafy tree, and ye have not hearkened to My voice, saith the LORD.

con tal que reconozcas tu iniquidad. Pues contra Yahvé, tú Dios has pecado, te has prostituido a los extraños, bajo todo árbol frondoso, y no has escuchado mi voz —oráculo de Yahvé.

14 Return, O backsliding children, saith the LORD; for I am a lord unto you, and I will take you one of a city, and two of a family, and I will bring you to Zion;

Convertíos, hijos rebeldes, dice Yahvé, porque Yo soy vuestro Esposo y os tomaré, uno de cada ciudad, y dos de cada estirpe, y os traeré a Sión.

15 and I will give you shepherds according to My heart, who shall feed you with knowledge and understanding.

Y os daré pastores según mi corazón, que os apacentarán con ciencia y doctrina.

16 And it shall come to pass, when ye are multiplied and increased in the land, in those days, saith the LORD, they shall say no more: The ark of the covenant of the LORD; neither shall it come to mind; neither shall they make mention of it; neither shall they miss it; neither shall it be made any more.

Y cuando os multiplicareis y creciereis en la tierra, en aquellos días, dice Yahvé, no se dirá más: “¡El arca de la alianza de Yahvé!” ni les vendrá a las mientes, ni habrá de ella memoria, no la echarán de menos, ni se hará otra.

17 At that time they shall call Jerusalem The throne of the LORD; and all the nations shall be gathered unto it, to the name of the LORD, to Jerusalem; neither shall they walk any more after the stubbornness of their evil heart.

En aquel tiempo Jerusalén será llamada trono de Yahvé; y se congregarán en el nombre de Yahvé todas las naciones en Jerusalén; y no seguirán más su obstinado y depravado corazón.

18 In those days the house of Judah shall walk with the house of Israel, and they shall come together out of the land of the north to the land that I have given for an inheritance unto your fathers.'

En aquellos días se juntará la casa de Judá con la casa de Israel, y juntas vendrán de la tierra del Norte a la tierra que di en herencia a vuestros padres.

19 But I said: 'How would I put thee among the sons, and give thee a pleasant land, the goodliest heritage of the nations!' And I said: 'Thou shalt call Me, My father; and shalt not turn away from following Me.'

Yo me preguntaba: “¿Cómo he de contarte entre mis hijos y darte en herencia una tierra de delicias, la posesión más hermosa entre las naciones?” Y respondí: “Tú me llamarás Padre mío, y ya no dejarás de seguir en pos de Mí.”

20 Surely as a wife treacherously departeth from her husband, so have ye dealt treacherously with Me, O house of Israel, saith the LORD.

Pero como una mujer que es infiel a su marido, así vosotros habéis sido infieles a Mí, oh casa de Israel, dice Yahvé.

21 Hark! upon the high hills is heard the suppliant weeping of the children of Israel; for that they have perverted their way, they have forgotten the LORD their God.

Se oye sobre los montes voz de lloro, los llantos de los hijos de Israel; por haber pervertido su camino, olvidándose de Yahvé su Dios.

22 Return, ye backsliding children, I will heal your backslidings. — 'Here we are, we are come unto Thee; for Thou art the LORD our God.

Volveos, oh hijos rebeldes, y Yo sanaré vuestras apostasías. “He aquí que volvemos a Ti; porque Tú eres Yahvé, nuestro Dios.

23 Truly vain have proved the hills, the uproar on the mountains; truly in the LORD our God is the salvation of Israel.

De veras, eran embustes los collados y el bullicio en los montes; solo en Yahvé, nuestro Dios, está la salvación de Israel.

24 But the shameful thing hath devoured the labour of our fathers from our youth; their flocks and their herds, their sons and their daughters.

La ignominia consumió las fatigas de nuestros padres desde nuestra mocedad; sus rebaños y sus ganados, sus hijos y sus hijas.

25 Let us lie down in our shame, and let our confusion cover us; for we have sinned against the LORD our God, we and our fathers, from our youth even unto this day; and we have not hearkened to the voice of the LORD our God.'

Acostémonos, pues, en nuestro oprobio, y cúbranos nuestra ignominia, pues hemos pecado contra Yahvé, nuestro Dios, nosotros y nuestros padres, desde nuestra mocedad hasta el día de hoy, y no hemos escuchado la voz de Yahvé, nuestro Dios.”
