Jeremiah 2
1 And the word of the LORD came to me, saying:
तब मुझे याहवेह का यह संदेश प्राप्त हुआ:
2 Go, and cry in the ears of Jerusalem, saying: Thus saith the LORD: I remember for thee the affection of thy youth, the love of thine espousals; how thou wentest after Me in the wilderness, in a land that was not sown.
“जाओ, येरूशलेम की प्रजा के कानों में वाणी करो: “यह याहवेह का संदेश है: “‘तुम्हारे विषय में मुझे स्मरण है: जवानी की तुम्हारी निष्ठा, दुल्हिन सा तुम्हारा प्रेम और निर्जन प्रदेश में तुम्हारे द्वारा मेरा अनुसरण, ऐसे देश में, जहां बीज बोया नहीं जाता था.
3 Israel is the LORD'S hallowed portion, His first-fruits of the increase; all that devour him shall be held guilty, evil shall come upon them, saith the LORD.
इस्राएल याहवेह के लिए पवित्र किया हुआ था, याहवेह की पहली उपज; जिस किसी ने इस उपज का उपभोग किया, वे दोषी हो गए; वे संकट से ग्रसित हो गए,’” यह याहवेह की वाणी है.
4 Hear ye the word of the LORD, O house of Jacob, and all the families of the house of Israel;
याकोब के वंशजों, याहवेह का संदेश सुनो, इस्राएल के सारे गोत्रों, तुम भी.
5 Thus saith the LORD: What unrighteousness have your fathers found in Me, that they are gone far from Me, and have walked after things of nought, and are become nought?
याहवेह का संदेश यह है: “तुम्हारे पूर्वजों ने मुझमें कौन सा अन्याय पाया, कि वे मुझसे दूर हो गए? निकम्मी वस्तुओं के पीछे होकर वे स्वयं निकम्मे बन गए.
6 Neither said they: 'Where is the LORD that brought us up out of the land of Egypt; that led us through the wilderness, through a land of deserts and of pits, through a land of drought and of the shadow of death, through a land that no man passed through, and where no man dwelt?'
उन्होंने यह प्रश्न ही न किया, ‘कहां हैं याहवेह, जिन्होंने हमें मिस्र देश से मुक्त किया और जो हमें निर्जन प्रदेश में होकर यहां लाया. मरुभूमि तथा गड्ढों की भूमि में से, उस भूमि में से, जहां निर्जल तथा अंधकार व्याप्त था, उस भूमि में से जिसके पार कोई नहीं गया था, जिसमें कोई निवास नहीं करता था?’
7 And I brought you into a land of fruitful fields, to eat the fruit thereof and the good thereof; but when ye entered, ye defiled My land, and made My heritage an abomination.
मैं तुम्हें उपजाऊ भूमि पर ले आया कि तुम इसकी उपज का सेवन करो और इसकी उत्तम वस्तुओं का उपयोग करो. किंतु तुमने आकर मेरी भूमि को अशुद्ध कर दिया और तुमने मेरे इस निज भाग को घृणास्पद बना दिया.
8 The priests said not: 'Where is the LORD?' And they that handle the law knew Me not, and the rulers transgressed against Me; the prophets also prophesied by Baal, and walked after things that do not profit.
पुरोहितों ने यह समझने का प्रयास कभी नहीं किया, ‘याहवेह कहां हैं?’ आचार्य तो मुझे जानते ही न थे; उच्च अधिकारी ने मेरे विरोध में विद्रोह किया. भविष्यवक्ताओं ने बाल के द्वारा भविष्यवाणी की, तथा उस उपक्रम में लग गए जो निरर्थक है.
9 Wherefore I will yet plead with you, saith the LORD, and with your children's children will I plead.
“तब मैं पुनः तुम्हारे समक्ष अपना सहायक प्रस्तुत करूंगा,” यह याहवेह की वाणी है. “मैं तुम्हारी संतान की संतान के समक्ष अपना सहायक प्रस्तुत करूंगा.
10 For pass over to the isles of the Kittites, and see, and send unto Kedar, and consider diligently, and see if there hath been such a thing.
सागर पार कर कित्तिम के तटवर्ती क्षेत्रों में देखो, किसी को केदार देश भेजकर सूक्ष्म अवलोकन करो; और ज्ञात करो कि कभी ऐसा हुआ है:
11 Hath a nation changed its gods, which yet are no gods? But My people hath changed its glory for that which doth not profit.
क्या किसी राष्ट्र ने अपने देवता परिवर्तित किए हैं? (जबकि देवता कुछ भी नहीं हुआ करते.) किंतु मेरी प्रजा ने अपने गौरव का विनिमय उससे कर लिया है जो सर्वथा निरर्थक है.
12 Be astonished, O ye heavens, at this, and be horribly afraid, be ye exceeding amazed, saith the LORD.
आकाश, इस पर अपना भय अभिव्यक्त करो, कांप जाओ और अत्यंत सुनसान हो जाओ,” यह याहवेह की वाणी है.
13 For My people have committed two evils: they have forsaken Me, the fountain of living waters, and hewed them out cisterns, broken cisterns, that can hold no water.
“मेरी प्रजा ने दो बुराइयां की हैं: उन्होंने मुझ जीवन्त स्रोत का परित्याग कर दिया है, उन्होंने ऐसे हौद बना लिए हैं, जो टूटे हुए हैं, जो पानी को रोक नहीं सकते.
14 Is Israel a servant? Is he a home-born slave? Why is he become a prey?
क्या इस्राएल दास है, अथवा घर में ही जन्मा सेवक? तब उसका शिकार क्यों किया जा रहा है?
15 The young lions have roared upon him, and let their voice resound; and they have made his land desolate, his cities are laid waste, without inhabitant.
जवान सिंह उस पर दहाड़ते रहे हैं; अत्यंत सशक्त रही है उनकी दहाड़. उन्होंने उसके देश को उजाड़ बना दिया है; उसके नगरों को नष्ट कर दिया है और उसके नगर निर्जन रह गए हैं.
16 The children also of Noph and Tahpanhes feed upon the crown of thy head.
मैमफिस तथा ताहपनहेस के लोगों ने तुम्हारी उपज की बालें नोच डाली हैं.
17 Is it not this that doth cause it unto thee, that thou hast forsaken the LORD thy God, when He led thee by the way?
क्या यह स्वयं तुम्हारे ही द्वारा लाई हुई स्थिति नहीं है, जब याहवेह तुम्हें लेकर आ रहे थे, तुमने याहवेह अपने परमेश्वर का परित्याग कर दिया?
18 And now what hast thou to do in the way to Egypt, to drink the waters of Shihor? Or what hast thou to do in the way to Assyria, to drink the waters of the River?
किंतु अब तुम मिस्र की ओर क्यों देखते हो? नील नदी के जल पीना तुम्हारा लक्ष्य है? अथवा तुम अश्शूर के मार्ग पर क्या कर रहे हो? क्या तुम्हारा लक्ष्य है, फरात नदी के जल का सेवन करना?
19 Thine own wickedness shall correct thee, and thy backslidings shall reprove thee: know therefore and see that it is an evil and a bitter thing, that thou hast forsaken the LORD thy God, neither is My fear in thee, saith the Lord GOD of hosts.
तुम्हारी अपनी बुराई ही तुम्हें सुधारेगी; याहवेह के प्रति श्रद्धा से तुम्हारा भटक जाना ही तुम्हें प्रताड़ित करेगा. तब यह समझ लो तथा यह बात पहचान लो याहवेह अपने परमेश्वर का परित्याग करना हानिकर एवं पीड़ादायी है, तुममें मेरे प्रति भय-भाव है ही नहीं,” यह सेनाओं के प्रभु परमेश्वर की वाणी है.
20 For of old time I have broken thy yoke, and burst thy bands, and thou saidst: 'I will not transgress'; upon every high hill and under every leafy tree thou didst recline, playing the harlot.
“वर्षों पूर्व मैंने तुम्हारा जूआ भंग कर दिया तथा तुम्हारे बंधन तोड़ डाले; किंतु तुमने कह दिया, ‘सेवा मैं नहीं करूंगा!’ क्योंकि, हर एक उच्च पर्वत पर और हर एक हरे वृक्ष के नीचे तुमने वेश्या-सदृश मेरे साथ विश्वासघात किया है.
21 Yet I had planted thee a noble vine, wholly a right seed; how then art thou turned into the degenerate plant of a strange vine unto Me?
फिर भी मैंने तुम्हें एक उत्कृष्ट द्राक्षलता सदृश, पूर्णतः, विशुद्ध बीज सदृश रोपित किया. तब ऐसा क्या हो गया जो तुम विकृत हो गए और वन्य लता के निकृष्ट अंकुर में, परिवर्तित हो गए?
22 For though thou wash thee with nitre, and take thee much soap, yet thine iniquity is marked before Me, saith the Lord GOD.
यद्यपि तुम साबुन के साथ स्वयं को स्वच्छ करते हो तथा भरपूरी से साबुन का प्रयोग करते हो, फिर भी तुम्हारा अधर्म मेरे समक्ष बना हुआ है,” यह प्रभु याहवेह की वाणी है.
23 How canst thou say: 'I am not defiled, I have not gone after the Baalim'? See thy way in the Valley, know what thou hast done; thou art a swift young camel traversing her ways;
“तुम यह दावा कैसे कर सकते हो, ‘मैं अशुद्ध नहीं हुआ हूं; मैं बाल देवताओं के प्रति निष्ठ नहीं हुआ हूं’? उस घाटी में अपने आचार-व्यवहार को स्मरण करो; यह पहचानो कि तुम क्या कर बैठे हो. तुम तो उस ऊंटनी सदृश हो जो दिशाहीन लक्ष्य की ओर तीव्र गति से दौड़ती हुई उत्तरोत्तर उलझती जा रही है,
24 A wild ass used to the wilderness, that snuffeth up the wind in her desire; her lust, who can hinder it? All they that seek her will not weary themselves; in her month they shall find her.
तुम वनों में पली-बढ़ी उस वन्य गधी के सदृश हो, जो अपनी लालसा में वायु की गंध लेती रहती है— उत्तेजना के समय में कौन उसे नियंत्रित कर सकता है? वे सब जो उसे खोजते हैं व्यर्थ न हों; उसकी उस समागम ऋतु में वे उसे पा ही लेंगे.
25 Withhold thy foot from being unshod, and thy throat from thirst; but thou saidst: 'There is no hope; no, for I have loved strangers, and after them will I go.'
तुम्हारे पांव जूते-विहीन न रहें और न तुम्हारा गला प्यास से सूखने पाए. किंतु तुमने कहा, ‘निरर्थक होगा यह प्रयास! नहीं! मैंने अपरिचितों से प्रेम किया है, मैं तो उन्हीं के पास जाऊंगी.’
26 As the thief is ashamed when he is found, so is the house of Israel ashamed; they, their kings, their princes, and their priests, and their prophets;
“जैसे चोर चोरी पकड़े जाने पर लज्जित हो जाता है, वैसे ही इस्राएल वंशज लज्जित हुए हैं— वे, उनके राजा, उनके उच्च अधिकारी, उनके पुरोहित और उनके भविष्यद्वक्ता.
27 Who say to a stock: 'Thou art my father', and to a stone: 'Thou hast brought us forth', for they have turned their back unto Me, and not their face; but in the time of their trouble they will say: 'Arise, and save us.'
वे वृक्ष से कहते हैं, ‘तुम मेरे पिता हो,’ तथा पत्थर से, ‘तुमने मुझे जन्म दिया है.’ यह इसलिये कि उन्होंने अपनी पीठ मेरी ओर कर दी है अपना मुख नहीं; किंतु अपने संकट के समय, वे कहेंगे, ‘उठिए और हमारी रक्षा कीजिए!’
28 But where are thy gods that thou hast made thee? Let them arise, if they can save thee in the time of thy trouble; for according to the number of thy cities are thy gods, O Judah.
किंतु वे देवता जो तुमने अपने लिए निर्मित किए हैं, कहां हैं? यदि उनमें तुम्हारी रक्षा करने की क्षमता है तो वे तुम्हारे संकट के समय तैयार हो जाएं! क्योंकि यहूदिया, जितनी संख्या तुम्हारे नगरों की है उतने ही हैं तुम्हारे देवता.
29 Wherefore will ye contend with Me? Ye all have transgressed against Me, saith the LORD.
“तुम मुझसे वाद-विवाद क्यों कर रहे हो? तुम सभी ने मेरे विरुद्ध बलवा किया है,” यह याहवेह की वाणी है.
30 In vain have I smitten your children — they received no correction; your sword hath devoured your prophets, like a destroying lion.
“व्यर्थ हुई मेरे द्वारा तुम्हारी संतान की ताड़ना; उन्होंने इसे स्वीकार ही नहीं किया. हिंसक सिंह सदृश तुम्हारी ही तलवार तुम्हारे भविष्यवक्ताओं को निगल कर गई.
31 O generation, see ye the word of the LORD: have I been a wilderness unto Israel? or a land of thick darkness? Wherefore say My people: 'We roam at large; we will come no more unto Thee'?
“इस पीढ़ी के लोगो, याहवेह के वचन पर ध्यान दो: “क्या इस्राएल के लिए मैं निर्जन प्रदेश सदृश रहा हूं अथवा गहन अंधकार के क्षेत्र सदृश? क्या कारण है कि मेरी प्रजा यह कहती है, ‘हम ध्यान करने के लिए स्वतंत्र हैं; क्या आवश्यकता है कि हम आपकी शरण में आएं’?
32 Can a maid forget her ornaments, or a bride her attire? Yet My people have forgotten Me days without number.
क्या कोई नवयुवती अपने आभूषणों की उपेक्षा कर सकती है, अथवा क्या किसी वधू के लिए उसका श्रृंगार महत्वहीन होता है? फिर भी मेरी प्रजा ने मुझे भूलना पसंद कर दिया है, वह भी दीर्घ काल से.
33 How trimmest thou thy way to seek love! Therefore — even the wicked women hast thou taught thy ways;
अपने प्रिय बर्तन तक पहुंचने के लिए तुम कैसी कुशलतापूर्वक युक्ति कर लेते हो! तब तुमने तो बुरी स्त्रियों को भी अपनी युक्तियां सिखा दी हैं.
34 Also in thy skirts is found the blood of the souls of the innocent poor; thou didst not find them breaking in; yet for all these things
तुम्हारे वस्त्र पर तो निर्दोष गरीब का जीवन देनेवाला रक्त पाया गया है, तुम्हें तो पता ही न चला कि वे कब तुम्हारे आवास में घुस आए.
35 Thou saidst: 'I am innocent; surely His anger is turned away from me' — behold, I will enter into judgment with thee, because thou sayest: 'I have not sinned.'
यह सब होने पर भी तुमने दावा किया, ‘मैं निस्सहाय हूं; निश्चय उनका क्रोध मुझ पर से टल चुका है.’ किंतु यह समझ लो कि मैं तुम्हारा न्याय कर रहा हूं क्योंकि तुमने दावा किया है, ‘मैं निस्सहाय हूं.’
36 How greatly dost thou cheapen thyself to change thy way? Thou shalt be ashamed of Egypt also, as thou wast ashamed of Asshur.
तुम अपनी नीतियां परिवर्तित क्यों करते रहते हो, यह भी स्मरण रखना? तुम जिस प्रकार अश्शूर के समक्ष लज्जित हुए थे उसी प्रकार ही तुम्हें मिस्र के समक्ष भी लज्जित होना पड़ेगा.
37 From him also shalt thou go forth, with thy hands upon thy head; for the LORD hath rejected them in whom thou didst trust, and thou shalt not prosper in them.
इस स्थान से भी तुम्हें निराश होना होगा. उस समय तुम्हारे हाथ तुम्हारे सिर पर होंगे, क्योंकि जिन पर तुम्हारा भरोसा था उन्हें याहवेह ने अस्वीकृत कर दिया है; उनके साथ तुम्हारी समृद्धि संभव नहीं है.
