Jeremiah 17
1 The sin of Judah is written with a pen of iron, and with the point of a diamond; it is graven upon the tablet of their heart, and upon the horns of your altars.
Le péché de Juda a été écrit avec une plume de fer et avec une pointe de diamant, et gravé sur l’étendue de leur cœur et sur les cornes de leurs autels.
2 Like the symbols of their sons are their altars, and their Asherim are by the leafy trees, upon the high hills.
Puisque leurs fils se sont souvenus de leurs autels, et de leurs bois sacrés, et des arbres couverts de feuilles, sur les montagnes élevées,
3 O thou that sittest upon the mountain in the field, I will give thy substance and all thy treasures for a spoil, and thy high places, because of sin, throughout all thy borders.
Offrant des sacrifices dans la campagne, j’abandonnerai au pillage ta force et tous tes trésors, et tes hauts lieux à cause de tes péchés commis dans tous tes confins.
4 And thou, even of thyself, shalt discontinue from thy heritage that I gave thee; and I will cause thee to serve thine enemies in the land which thou knowest not; for ye have kindled a fire in My nostril, which shall burn for ever.
Et tu seras laissée seule privée de ton héritage que je t’ai donné, et je te rendrai l’esclave de tes ennemis dans une terre que tu ignores, parce que tu as allumé un feu dans ma fureur; jusqu’à jamais il brûlera.
5 Thus saith the LORD: Cursed is the man that trusteth in man, and maketh flesh his arm, and whose heart departeth from the LORD.
Voici ce que dit le Seigneur: Maudit l’homme qui se confie dans l’homme, qui se fait un bras de chair, et dont le cœur se retire du Seigneur.
6 For he shall be like a tamarisk in the desert, and shall not see when good cometh; but shall inhabit the parched places in the wilderness, a salt land and not inhabited.
Il sera comme le tamaris qui est dans le désert et il ne verra pas le bonheur, lorsqu’il viendra; mais il habitera dans la sécheresse au désert, dans une terre de salure et inhabitable.
7 Blessed is the man that trusteth in the LORD, and whose trust the LORD is.
Béni l’homme qui se confie dans le Seigneur, et dont le Seigneur sera l’espérance.
8 For he shall be as a tree planted by the waters, and that spreadeth out its roots by the river, and shall not see when heat cometh, but its foliage shall be luxuriant; and shall not be anxious in the year of drought, neither shall cease from yielding fruit.
Et il sera comme un arbre que l’on transplante sur le bord des eaux, qui étend ses racines vers l’eau qui l’humecte; il ne craindra pas la chaleur, lorsqu’elle viendra. Et sa feuille sera verte, et au temps de la sécheresse il ne sera pas en peine, et jamais il ne cessera de faire du fruit.
9 The heart is deceitful above all things, and it is exceeding weak — who can know it?
Le cœur de tous est dépravé et inscrutable; qui le connaîtra?
10 I the LORD search the heart, I try the reins, even to give every man according to his ways, according to the fruit of his doings.
C’est moi, le Seigneur qui scrute le cœur, et qui éprouve les reins; qui donne à chacun selon sa voie et selon le fruit de ses inventions.
11 As the partridge that broodeth over young which she hath not brought forth, so is he that getteth riches, and not by right; in the midst of his days he shall leave them, and at his end he shall be a fool.
La perdrix a couvé des œufs qu’elle n’a pas pondus, ainsi l’injuste a amassé des richesses, mais non avec justice; au milieu de ses jours il abandonnera ses richesses, et à son dernier moment, il sera reconnu insensé.
12 Thou throne of glory, on high from the beginning, thou place of our sanctuary,
Le trône de gloire, élevé depuis le commencement, est le lieu de notre sanctification.
13 Thou hope of Israel, the LORD! All that forsake Thee shall be ashamed; they that depart from Thee shall be written in the earth, because they have forsaken the LORD, the fountain of living waters.
Seigneur, l’attente d’Israël, tous ceux qui vous abandonnent seront confondus; ceux qui se retirent de vous seront écrits sur la terre, parce qu’ils ont abandonné la source des eaux vives, le Seigneur.
14 Heal me, O LORD, and I shall be healed; save me, and I shall be saved; for Thou art my praise.
Guérissez-moi, Seigneur, et je serai guéri; sauvez-moi, et je serai sauvé; parce que ma louange, c’est vous.
15 Behold, they say unto me: 'Where is the word of the LORD? let it come now.'
Voilà qu’eux-mêmes me disent: Où est la parole du Seigneur? qu’elle vienne.
16 As for me, I have not hastened from being a shepherd after Thee; neither have I desired the woeful day; Thou knowest it; that which came out of my lips was manifest before Thee.
Et moi je n’ai pas été troublé, en vous suivant comme pasteur; et le jour d’un homme, je ne l’ai pas désiré, vous le savez. Ce qui est sorti de mes lèvres a été juste en votre présence.
17 Be not a ruin unto me; Thou art my refuge in the day of evil.
Ne me soyez pas à effroi, mon espoir, c’est vous, au jour de l’affliction.
18 Let them be ashamed that persecute me, but let not me be ashamed; Let them be dismayed, but let not me be dismayed; Bring upon them the day of evil, and destroy them with double destruction.
Qu’ils soient confondus, ceux qui me persécutent, et que je ne sois pas confondu moi-même; qu’ils tremblent de peur, eux, et que je ne tremble pas moi-même; amenez sur eux un jour d’affliction, et d’un double brisement, brisez-les.
19 Thus said the LORD unto me: Go, and stand in the gate of the children of the people, whereby the kings of Judah come in, and by which they go out, and in all the gates of Jerusalem;
Voici ce que me dit le Seigneur: Va, et tiens-toi à la porte des fils du peuple, par laquelle les rois de Juda entrent et sortent, et à toutes les portes de Jérusalem;
20 and say unto them: Hear ye the word of the LORD, ye kings of Judah, and all Judah, and all the inhabitants of Jerusalem, that enter in by these gates;
Et tu leur diras: Ecoutez la parole du Seigneur, rois de Juda, tout Juda, et vous tous, habitants de Jérusalem, qui entrez par ces portes.
21 thus saith the LORD: Take heed for the sake of your souls, and bear no burden on the sabbath day, nor bring it in by the gates of Jerusalem;
Voici ce que dit le Seigneur: Gardez vos âmes, ne portez point de fardeaux au jour du sabbat, et n’en introduisez point par les portes de Jérusalem.
22 neither carry forth a burden out of your houses on the sabbath day, neither do ye any work; but hallow ye the sabbath day, as I commanded your fathers;
Et ne faites pas sortir de fardeaux hors de vos maisons au jour du sabbat, et vous ne ferez aucun travail; mais sanctifiez le jour du sabbat comme je l’ai ordonné à vos pères.
23 but they hearkened not, neither inclined their ear, but made their neck stiff, that they might not hear, nor receive instruction.
Et ils n’ont pas entendu, et ils n’ont pas incliné leur oreille; mais ils ont rendu leur cou inflexible, afin de ne pas m’entendre, et de ne pas recevoir mes instructions.
24 And it shall come to pass, if ye diligently hearken unto Me, saith the LORD, to bring in no burden through the gates of this city on the sabbath day, but to hallow the sabbath day, to do no work therein;
Et il arrivera que si vous m’écoutez, dit le Seigneur, en sorte que vous n’introduisiez point de fardeaux par les portes de cette ville au jour du sabbat, et si vous sanctifiez le jour du sabbat, si vous ne faites en ce jour aucun travail,
25 then shall there enter in by the gates of this city kings and princes sitting upon the throne of David, riding in chariots and on horses, they, and their princes, the men of Judah, and the inhabitants of Jerusalem; and this city shall be inhabited for ever.
Il entrera par les portes de cette ville des rois et des princes qui s’assiéront sur le trône de David, qui seront montés sur leurs chars et sur leurs chevaux, eux et leurs princes, et les hommes de Juda, et les habitants de Jérusalem; et cette ville sera habitée éternellement.
26 And they shall come from the cities of Judah, and from the places round about Jerusalem, and from the land of Benjamin, and from the Lowland, and from the mountains, and from the South, bringing burnt-offerings, and sacrifices, and meal-offerings, and frankincense, and bringing sacrifices of thanksgiving, unto the house of the LORD.
Et ils viendront des villes de Juda, et des environs de Jérusalem, et de la terre de Benjamin, et des plaines, et des montagnes, et du midi, portant des holocaustes et des victimes, des sacrifices et de l’encens, et ils les apporteront en offrande dans la maison du Seigneur.
27 But if ye will not hearken unto Me to hallow the sabbath day, and not to bear a burden and enter in at the gates of Jerusalem on the sabbath day; then will I kindle a fire in the gates thereof, and it shall devour the palaces of Jerusalem, and it shall not be quenched.
Mais si vous ne m’écoutez pas, si vous ne sanctifiez pas le jour du sabbat, en ne portant point de fardeaux, et n’en introduisant point par les portes de Jérusalem au jour du sabbat, je mettrai le feu à ses portes; et il dévorera les maisons de Jérusalem, et il ne s’éteindra pas.
