Jeremiah 13
1 Thus said the LORD unto me: 'Go, and get thee a linen girdle, and put it upon thy loins, and put it not in water.'
Ainsi m'a dit l'Eternel: Va, et achète-toi une ceinture de lin, et mets-la sur tes reins, et ne la mets point dans l'eau.
2 So I got a girdle according to the word of the LORD, and put it upon my loins.
J'achetai donc une ceinture selon la parole de l'Eternel, et la mis sur mes reins.
3 And the word of the LORD came unto me the second time, saying:
Et la parole de l'Eternel me fut [adressée] pour la seconde fois, en disant:
4 'Take the girdle that thou hast gotten, which is upon thy loins, and arise, go to Perath, and hide it there in a cleft of the rock.'
Prends la ceinture que tu as achetée, et qui est sur tes reins, et te lève, et t'en va vers l'Euphrate, et la cache là dans le trou d'un rocher.
5 So I went, and hid it in Perath, as the LORD commanded me.
Je m'en allai donc, et la cachai dans l'Euphrate, comme l'Eternel m'avait commandé.
6 And it came to pass after many days, that the LORD said unto me: 'Arise, go to Perath, and take the girdle from thence, which I commanded thee to hide there.'
Et il arriva que plusieurs jours après l'Eternel me dit: lève-toi, et t'en va vers l'Euphrate, et reprends de là la ceinture que je t'avais commandé d'y cacher.
7 Then I went to Perath, and digged, and took the girdle from the place where I had hid it; and, behold, the girdle was marred, it was profitable for nothing.
Et je m'en allai vers l'Euphrate, je creusai; et je repris la ceinture du lieu où je l'avais cachée, et voici, la ceinture était pourrie, et n'était plus bonne à rien.
8 Then the word of the LORD came unto me, saying:
Alors la parole de l'Eternel me fut [adressée], en disant:
9 Thus saith the LORD: After this manner will I mar the pride of Judah, and the great pride of Jerusalem,
Ainsi a dit l'Eternel: je ferai ainsi pourrir l'orgueil de Juda, et le grand orgueil de Jérusalem.
10 even this evil people, that refuse to hear My words, that walk in the stubbornness of their heart, and are gone after other gods to serve them, and to worship them, that it be as this girdle, which is profitable for nothing.
[L'orgueil] de ce peuple très méchant, qui refusent d'écouter mes paroles, et qui marchent selon la dureté de leur cœur, et vont après d'autres dieux pour les servir, et pour se prosterner devant eux, tellement qu'il sera comme cette ceinture, qui n'est bonne à aucune chose.
11 For as the girdle cleaveth to the loins of a man, so have I caused to cleave unto Me the whole house of Israel and the whole house of Judah, saith the LORD, that they might be unto Me for a people, and for a name, and for a praise, and for a glory; but they would not hearken.
Car comme une ceinture est jointe sur les reins d'un homme, je m'étais attaché toute la maison d'Israël, et toute la maison de Juda, dit l'Eternel, afin qu'ils fussent mon peuple, ma renommée, ma louange, et ma gloire; mais ils n'ont point écouté.
12 Moreover thou shalt speak unto them this word: Thus saith the LORD, the God of Israel: 'Every bottle is filled with wine'; and when they shall say unto thee: 'Do we not know that every bottle is filled with wine?'
Tu leur diras donc cette parole-ci: ainsi a dit l'Eternel, le Dieu d'Israël: tout vaisseau sera rempli de vin; et ils te diront: ne savons-nous pas bien que tout vaisseau sera rempli de vin?
13 Then shalt thou say unto them: Thus saith the LORD: Behold, I will fill all the inhabitants of this land, even the kings that sit upon David's throne, and the priests, and the prophets, and all the inhabitants of Jerusalem, with drunkenness.
Mais tu leur diras: ainsi a dit l'Eternel: voici, je m'en vais remplir d'ivresse tous les habitants de ce pays, et les Rois qui sont assis sur le trône de David pour l'amour de lui, et les Sacrificateurs, et les Prophètes, et tous les habitants de Jérusalem.
14 And I will dash them one against another, even the fathers and the sons together, saith the LORD; I will not pity, nor spare, nor have compassion, that I should not destroy them.
Et je les briserai l'un contre l'autre, les pères et les enfants ensemble, dit l'Eternel, je n'en aurai point de compassion, je ne les épargnerai point, et je n'en aurai point de pitié pour ne les détruire point.
15 Hear ye, and give ear, be not proud; for the LORD hath spoken.
Ecoutez et prêtez l'oreille, ne vous élevez point, car l'Eternel a parlé.
16 Give glory to the LORD your God, before it grow dark, and before your feet stumble upon the mountains of twilight, and, while ye look for light, He turn it into the shadow of death, and make it gross darkness.
Donnez gloire à l'Eternel votre Dieu, avant qu'il fasse venir les ténèbres, et avant que vos pieds bronchent sur les montagnes dans lesquelles on ne voit pas clair; vous attendrez la lumière, et il la changera en une ombre de mort, et la réduira en obscurité.
17 But if ye will not hear it, my soul shall weep in secret for your pride; and mine eyes shall weep sore, and run down with tears, because the LORD'S flock is carried away captive.
Que si vous n'écoutez ceci, mon âme pleurera en secret à cause de [votre] orgueil, et mon œil versera des larmes en abondance, même il se fondra en larmes, parce que le troupeau de l'Eternel aura été emmené prisonnier.
18 Say thou unto the king and to the queen-mother: 'Sit ye down low; for your headtires are come down, even your beautiful crown.'
Dis au Roi et à la Régente: humiliez-vous, et vous asseyez [sur la cendre], car votre couronne magnifique tombera de dessus vos têtes.
19 The cities of the South are shut up, and there is none to open them; Judah is carried away captive all of it; it is wholly carried away captive.
Les villes du Midi sont fermées, et il n'y a personne qui les ouvre; tout Juda est transporté en captivité, il est universellement transporté.
20 Lift up your eyes, and behold them that come from the north; where is the flock that was given thee, thy beautiful flock?
Levez vos yeux, et voyez ceux qui viennent de l'Aquilon. Où est le parc qui t'a été donné, et ton magnifique troupeau?
21 What wilt thou say, when He shall set the friends over thee as head, whom thou thyself hast trained against thee? Shall not pangs take hold of thee, as of a woman in travail?
Que diras-tu quand il te punira? car tu les as enseignés contre toi, pour être supérieurs sur ta tête; les douleurs ne te saisiront-elles point, comme elles saisissent la femme qui enfante?
22 And if thou say in thy heart: 'Wherefore are these things befallen me?' — for the greatness of thine iniquity are thy skirts uncovered, and thy heels suffer violence.
Que si tu dis en ton cœur: pourquoi me sont arrivées ces choses? C'est pour la grandeur de ton iniquité que tes habits ont été retroussés, [et] que tes talons ont été serrés de près.
23 Can the Ethiopian change his skin, or the leopard his spots? Then may ye also do good, that are accustomed to do evil.
Le More changerait-il sa peau, et le léopard ses taches? pourriez-vous aussi faire quelque bien, vous qui n'êtes appris qu'à mal faire?
24 Therefore will I scatter them, as the stubble that passeth away by the wind of the wilderness.
C'est pourquoi je les disperserai comme du chaume, qui est emporté ça et là par le vent du désert.
25 This is thy lot, the portion measured unto thee from Me, saith the LORD; because thou hast forgotten Me, and trusted in falsehood.
C'est ici ton lot, et la portion que je t'ai mesurée dit l'Eternel; parce que tu m'as oublié, et que tu as mis ta confiance au mensonge,
26 Therefore will I also uncover thy skirts upon thy face, and thy shame shall appear.
A cause de cela j'ai retroussé tes habits sur ton visage, et ton ignominie paraîtra.
27 Thine adulteries, and thy neighings, the lewdness of thy harlotry, on the hills in the field have I seen thy detestable acts. Woe unto thee, O Jerusalem! thou wilt not be made clean! When shall it ever be?
Tes adultères, et tes hennissements, l'énormité de ta prostitution est sur les collines, par les champs, j'ai vu tes abominations; malheur à toi, Jérusalem, ne seras-tu point nettoyée? jusques à quand cela durera-t-il?
