Isaiah 49
1 Listen, O isles, unto me, and hearken, ye peoples, from far: the LORD hath called me from the womb, from the bowels of my mother hath He made mention of my name;
Îles, écoutez-moi, et prêtez attention, peuples reculés! L'Éternel m'appela dès le sein maternel; j'étais encore dans les flancs de ma mère, qu'il nommait mon nom.
2 And He hath made my mouth like a sharp sword, in the shadow of His hand hath He hid me; and He hath made me a polished shaft, in His quiver hath He concealed me;
Il donna à ma bouche le tranchant de l'épée, de l'ombre de sa main Il me couvrit, Il fit de moi un trait acéré, et Il me cacha dans son carquois.
3 And He said unto me: 'Thou art My servant, Israel, in whom I will be glorified.'
Et Il me dit: Tu es mon serviteur, Israël en qui je ferai éclater ma gloire.
4 But I said: 'I have laboured in vain, I have spent my strength for nought and vanity; yet surely my right is with the LORD, and my recompense with my God.'
Mais je dis: En vain j'ai travaillé, vainement et pour rien j'ai consumé mes forces; mais mon bon droit est par devers l'Éternel, et mon salaire par devers mon Dieu.
5 And now saith the LORD that formed me from the womb to be His servant, to bring Jacob back to Him, and that Israel be gathered unto Him — for I am honourable in the eyes of the LORD, and my God is become my strength —
Or maintenant l'Éternel parle, lui qui me forma dès le sein maternel, pour être son serviteur, pour ramener à lui Jacob, et Israël qui n'est pas recueilli; et aux yeux de l'Éternel je suis honoré, et mon Dieu est ma force…
6 Yea, He saith: 'It is too light a thing that thou shouldest be My servant to raise up the tribes of Jacob, and to restore the offspring of Israel; I will also give thee for a light of the nations, that My salvation may be unto the end of the earth.'
Il dit: C'est trop peu que tu sois mon serviteur, pour relever les tribus de Jacob et ramener les restes conservés d'Israël; je t'établis lumière des nations, pour que tu portes mon salut jusqu'au bout de la terre.
7 Thus saith the LORD, the Redeemer of Israel, his Holy One, to him who is despised of men, to him who is abhorred of nations, to a servant of rulers: Kings shall see and arise, princes, and they shall prostrate themselves; because of the LORD that is faithful, even the Holy One of Israel, who hath chosen thee.
Ainsi parle l'Éternel, rédempteur d'Israël, son Saint, à celui que tous méprisent, qui inspire l'horreur au peuple, au serviteur des dominateurs: Des rois le verront et se lèveront, et des princes s'inclineront devant lui, pour l'amour de l'Éternel qui est fidèle, du Saint d'Israël qui t'a choisi.
8 Thus saith the LORD: In an acceptable time have I answered thee, and in a day of salvation have I helped thee; and I will preserve thee, and give thee for a covenant of the people, to raise up the land, to cause to inherit the desolate heritages;
Ainsi parle l'Éternel: Au temps de la grâce je t'exaucerai, et au jour du salut je te serai en aide: je te garderai et te ferai médiateur de l'alliance de mon peuple, pour relever le pays et répartir les héritages désolés,
9 Saying to the prisoners: 'Go forth'; to them that are in darkness: 'Show yourselves'; they shall feed in the ways, and in all high hills shall be their pasture;
pour dire aux prisonniers: « Sortez! » et à ceux qui sont dans les ténèbres: « Paraissez au jour! » Sur les chemins ils trouveront une pâture, et sur les coteaux nus leur pâturage.
10 They shall not hunger nor thirst, neither shall the heat nor sun smite them; for He that hath compassion on them will lead them, even by the springs of water will He guide them.
Ils ne seront point affamés, et point altérés; le hâle ni le soleil ne les accablera; car Celui qui a pitié d'eux les mène, et Il les conduit aux eaux jaillissantes.
11 And I will make all My mountains a way, and My highways shall be raised on high.
Et je changerai tous mes monts en chaussées, et mes chemins seront élevés.
12 Behold, these shall come from far; and, lo, these from the north and from the west, and these from the land of Sinim.
Voici, les uns arrivent des lointains pays, et voici, les autres du septentrion et de l'occident, et d'autres du pays de Sinim.
13 Sing, O heavens, and be joyful, O earth, and break forth into singing, O mountains; for the LORD hath comforted His people, and hath compassion upon His afflicted.
Cieux, soyez dans l'allégresse! terre, réjouis-toi! et vous montagnes, éclatez en acclamations! car l'Éternel console son peuple et de ses malheureux Il prend pitié.
14 But Zion said: 'The LORD hath forsaken me, and the Lord hath forgotten me.'
Sion dit: « L'Éternel m'abandonne et le Seigneur m'oublie. » –
15 Can a woman forget her sucking child, that she should not have compassion on the son of her womb? Yea, these may forget, yet will not I forget thee.
Une femme oublie-t-elle son nourrisson, perdant sa tendresse pour le fruit de ses entrailles? Quand elle pourrait l'oublier, moi je ne t'oublierai pas.
16 Behold, I have graven thee upon the palms of My hands; thy walls are continually before Me.
Voici, je t'ai gravée sur mes mains; tes murs me sont toujours présents.
17 Thy children make haste; thy destroyers and they that made thee waste shall go forth from thee.
Tes fils accourent, tes destructeurs et tes désolateurs s'enfuient.
18 Lift up thine eyes round about, and behold: all these gather themselves together, and come to thee. As I live, saith the LORD, thou shalt surely clothe thee with them all as with an ornament, and gird thyself with them, like a bride.
Porte les yeux de toutes parts et regarde! tous ils s'assemblent et s'acheminent vers toi. Par ma vie, dit l'Éternel, oui, tu les porteras tous comme une parure, tu t'en ceindras comme une fiancée.
19 For thy waste and thy desolate places and thy land that hath been destroyed — surely now shalt thou be too strait for the inhabitants, and they that swallowed thee up shall be far away.
Quant à tes ruines et à ton sol désolé, et à ton pays ravagé, tu seras trop étroite pour tant d'habitants, et tes exterminateurs se sont éloignés.
20 The children of thy bereavement shall yet say in thine ears: 'The place is too strait for me; give place to me that I may dwell.'
Les fils dont tu fus privée, de ces mots frapperont encore tes oreilles: La place est pour moi trop étroite, serre-toi contre moi, pour que je puisse me loger.
21 Then shalt thou say in thy heart: 'Who hath begotten me these, seeing I have been bereaved of my children, and am solitary, an exile, and wandering to and fro? And who hath brought up these? Behold, I was left alone; these, where were they?'
Et tu diras en ton cœur: Qui me les a engendrés? car j'étais sans enfants et stérile, chassée et répudiée! et ceux-ci, qui les a élevés? Voici, j'étais restée seule! ceux-ci, où étaient-ils? –
22 Thus saith the Lord GOD: Behold, I will lift up My hand to the nations, and set up Mine ensign to the peoples, and they shall bring thy sons in their bosom, and thy daughters shall be carried upon their shoulders.
Ainsi parle le Seigneur, l'Éternel: Voici, je lèverai ma main en signe aux nations, et pour les peuples je dresserai mon étendard, afin qu'ils rapportent tes fils sur leurs bras, et que sur leurs épaules ils ramènent tes filles.
23 And kings shall be thy foster-fathers, and their queens thy nursing mothers; they shall bow down to thee with their face to the earth, and lick the dust of thy feet; and thou shalt know that I am the LORD, for they shall not be ashamed that wait for Me.
Et des rois seront tes nourriciers, et leurs princesses tes nourrices; la face contre terre ils tomberont devant toi, et baiseront la poussière de tes pieds, et tu reconnaîtras que je suis l'Éternel, qui ne confonds point ceux qui se confient en moi.
24 Shall the prey be taken from the mighty, or the captives of the victorious be delivered?
« Au puissant, arracherait-on une proie, et les captifs d'un juste échapperaient-ils? »
25 But thus saith the LORD: Even the captives of the mighty shall be taken away, and the prey of the terrible shall be delivered; and I will contend with him that contendeth with thee, and I will save thy children.
Oui, dit l'Éternel, même les captifs du puissant seront arrachés, et la proie d'un furieux, échappera, et avec tes ennemis j'engagerai le combat, et je délivrerai tes fils.
26 And I will feed them that oppress thee with their own flesh; and they shall be drunken with their own blood, as with sweet wine; and all flesh shall know that I the LORD am thy Saviour, and thy Redeemer, the Mighty One of Jacob.
Et je ferai à tes oppresseurs manger leur propre chair, et comme de vin ils s'enivreront de leur sang, et toute chair reconnaîtra que je suis l'Éternel, ton sauveur et ton rédempteur, le héros de Jacob.
