Isaiah 44
1 Yet now hear, O Jacob My servant, and Israel, whom I have chosen;
Maintenant écoute, Jacob mon serviteur, Israël mon élu.
2 Thus saith the LORD that made thee, and formed thee from the womb, who will help thee: Fear not, O Jacob My servant, and thou, Jeshurun, whom I have chosen.
Voici ce que dit le Seigneur Dieu qui t'a créé, qui t'a formé dès les entrailles de ta mère: Tu seras encore secouru; ne crains pas, mon serviteur Jacob, mon bien-aimé, Israël mon élu.
3 For I will pour water upon the thirsty land, and streams upon the dry ground; I will pour My spirit upon thy seed, and My blessing upon thine offspring;
Je donnerai de l'eau dans leur soif à ceux qui traversent la terre aride; je ferai descendre mon esprit sur ta semence, et mes bénédictions sur tes enfants.
4 And they shall spring up among the grass, as willows by the watercourses.
Et ils croîtront comme l'herbe entre les ruisseaux, comme le saule sur le bord d'une eau courante.
5 One shall say: 'I am the LORD'S'; and another shall call himself by the name of Jacob; and another shall subscribe with his hand unto the LORD, and surname himself by the name of Israel.
Celui-ci dira: Je suis de Dieu. Celui-là se glorifiera du nom de Jacob; cet autre écrira de sa main: Je suis de Dieu, et se glorifiera du nom d'Israël.
6 Thus saith the LORD, the King of Israel, and his Redeemer the LORD of hosts: I am the first, and I am the last, and beside Me there is no God.
Voici ce que dit le Dieu, roi d'Israël, le Dieu des armées, rédempteur de Jacob: Je suis le premier, et je suis le dernier; hormis moi, il n'est point de Dieu.
7 And who, as I, can proclaim — let him declare it, and set it in order for Me — since I appointed the ancient people? And the things that are coming, and that shall come to pass, let them declare.
Qui est semblable à moi? Que celui-là se présente; qu'il rappelle, proclame et m'explique ce que j'ai fait pour l'homme depuis le commencement des siècles; qu'ils vous fassent connaître d'avance les choses de l'avenir.
8 Fear ye not, neither be afraid; have I not announced unto thee of old, and declared it? And ye are My witnesses. Is there a God beside Me? Yea, there is no Rock; I know not any.
Ne dissimulez pas, ne divaguez point, dès le commencement n'avez-vous pas ouï cela de vos oreilles? Ne vous l'ai-je pas déclaré? Vous êtes mes témoins; hormis moi, il n'est point de Dieu. Et ils n'existaient pas ainsi,
9 They that fashion a graven image are all of them vanity, and their delectable things shall not profit; and their own witnesses see not, nor know; that they may be ashamed.
Les artisans, les sculpteurs d'idoles, tous insensés, faisant à leur fantaisie des choses qui ne leur serviront de rien. Mais ils seront confondus.
10 Who hath fashioned a god, or molten an image that is profitable for nothing?
Tous ceux qui façonnent un dieu, et qui sculptent des choses inutiles,
11 Behold, all the fellows thereof shall be ashamed; and the craftsmen skilled above men; let them all be gathered together, let them stand up; they shall fear, they shall be ashamed together.
Tous les auteurs de ces vanités ont tous disparu; rassemblez ces hommes sourds, tenez-les réunis; que tous ensemble ils soient humiliés, qu'ils soient tous confondus.
12 The smith maketh an axe, and worketh in the coals, and fashioneth it with hammers, and worketh it with his strong arm; yea, he is hungry, and his strength faileth; he drinketh no water, and is faint.
L'artisan a aiguisé le fer; il a pris la hache, il a employé la tarière; il a fait son œuvre par l'effort de ses bras; et il aura faim, et il sera sans force, et il n'aura pas d'eau à boire. Ayant choisi
13 The carpenter stretcheth out a line; he marketh it out with a pencil; he fitteth it with planes, and he marketh it out with the compasses, and maketh it after the figure of a man, according to the beauty of a man, to dwell in the house.
L'arbre, l'artisan l'a dressé avec la mesure, l'a collé et ajusté; puis il lui a donné la forme d'un mortel et la beauté d'un homme pour le placer dans un temple.
14 He heweth him down cedars, and taketh the ilex and the oak, and strengtheneth for himself one among the trees of the forest; he planteth a bay-tree, and the rain doth nourish it.
Il a abattu un arbre de la forêt, un arbre qu'avait planté le Seigneur, un pin que la pluie avait fait croître
15 Then a man useth it for fuel; and he taketh thereof, and warmeth himself; yea, he kindleth it, and baketh bread; yea, he maketh a god, and worshippeth it; he maketh it a graven image, and falleth down thereto.
Pour qu'il fût brûlé par les hommes; il en a pris une part et s'en est chauffé; sur la braise ils ont cuit des pains; et avec le reste ils ont façonné des dieux, et ils les adorent.
16 He burneth the half thereof in the fire; with the half thereof he eateth flesh; he roasteth roast, and is satisfied; yea, he warmeth himself, and saith: 'Aha, I am warm, I have seen the fire';
Il n'en a pas brûlé la moitié; et sur cette moitié il s'est servi des braises pour faire cuire des pains et rôtir des chairs qu'il a mangées; il s'est rassasié, et après s'être chauffé il a dit: il m'est doux de me chauffer et de voir la flamme.
17 And the residue thereof he maketh a god, even his graven image; he falleth down unto it and worshippeth, and prayeth unto it, and saith: 'Deliver me, for thou art my god.'
Et avec le reste il a sculpté un dieu; et il l'adorera et le priera, disant: protège-moi, car tu es mon Dieu.
18 They know not, neither do they understand; for their eyes are bedaubed, that they cannot see, and their hearts, that they cannot understand.
Ils n'ont rien su comprendre; leurs yeux obscurcis ne voient plus; leurs cœurs ne sentent rien.
19 And none considereth in his heart, neither is there knowledge nor understanding to say: 'I have burned the half of it in the fire; yea, also I have baked bread upon the coals thereof; I have roasted flesh and eaten it; and shall I make the residue thereof an abomination? Shall I fall down to the stock of a tree?'
Et cet homme n'a point raisonné en son âme; il n'a pas su comprendre qu'il a brûlé la moitié de l'arbre, et que sur ses braises il a cuit du pain, il a rôti des chairs dont il s'est nourri, et qu'avec le reste il a fabriqué une abomination qu'on adore.
20 He striveth after ashes, a deceived heart hath turned him aside, that he cannot deliver his soul, nor say: 'Is there not a lie in my right hand?'
Sache que le cœur de ces dieux n'est que cendre; mais ils sont égarés, et nul d'eux ne peut sauver son âme. Voyez, et ne direz-vous pas: Cette œuvre de ma main n'est qu'un mensonge?
21 Remember these things, O Jacob, and Israel, for thou art My servant; I have formed thee, thou art Mine own servant; O Israel, thou shouldest not forget Me.
Souviens-toi de ces choses, ô Jacob, ô Israël, car tu es mon serviteur; je t'ai créé pour me servir; ô Israël, ne m'oublie pas.
22 I have blotted out, as a thick cloud, thy transgressions, and, as a cloud, thy sins; return unto Me, for I have redeemed thee.
Car voilà que j'ai effacé tes péchés comme un nuage; et ton iniquité, comme une vapeur. Reviens à moi, et je te rachèterai.
23 Sing, O ye heavens, for the LORD hath done it; shout, ye lowest parts of the earth; break forth into singing, ye mountains, O forest, and every tree therein; for the LORD hath redeemed Jacob, and doth glorify Himself in Israel.
Cieux, réjouissez-vous. Dieu a eu pitié d'Israël; sonnez de la trompette, fondements de la terre; montagnes, poussez des cris d'allégresse; et vous, collines, et vous, arbres qui les couvrez, le Seigneur a racheté Jacob, et Israël sera glorifié.
24 Thus saith the LORD, thy Redeemer, and He that formed thee from the womb: I am the LORD, that maketh all things; that stretched forth the heavens alone; that spread abroad the earth by Myself;
Voici ce que dit le Seigneur, qui t'a racheté et qui t'a formé dès les entrailles de ta mère: Je suis le Seigneur qui accomplit toutes choses; seul j'ai tendu les cieux et j'ai affermi la terre.
25 That frustrateth the tokens of the imposters, and maketh diviners mad; that turneth wise men backward, and maketh their knowledge foolish;
Quel autre que moi dissipera les signes des magiciens et détournera des cœurs les prédictions des devins? Je suis le Seigneur; c'est moi qui renverse la sagesse des sages, et qui rends vains leurs conseils.
26 That confirmeth the word of His servant, and performeth the counsel of His messengers; that saith of Jerusalem: 'She shall be inhabited'; and of the cities of Judah: 'They shall be built, and I will raise up the waste places thereof';
C'est moi qui affermis la parole de mon serviteur, qui confirme les conseils de mes messagers, et qui dis à Jérusalem: Tu seras repeuplée; et aux villes de l'Idumée: Vous serez rebâties, et vos champs dévastés refleuriront.
27 That saith to the deep: 'Be dry, and I will dry up thy rivers';
C'est moi qui dis à l'abîme: Tu seras épuisé, et je dessècherai tes fleuves.
28 That saith of Cyrus: 'He is My shepherd, and shall perform all My pleasure'; even saying of Jerusalem: 'She shall be built'; and to the temple: 'My foundation shall be laid.'
C'est moi qui dis à Cyrus: Sois prudent, et tu accompliras toutes mes volontés; et qui dis à Jérusalem: Tu seras rebâtie, et je jetterai les fondations de mon saint temple.
