Isaiah 43

1 But now thus saith the LORD that created thee, O Jacob, and He that formed thee, O Israel: Fear not, for I have redeemed thee, I have called thee by thy name, thou art Mine.

Ora così dice il Signore che ti ha creato, o Giacobbe, che ti ha plasmato, o Israele: «Non temere, perché io ti ho riscattato, ti ho chiamato per nome: tu mi appartieni.

2 When thou passest through the waters, I will be with thee, and through the rivers, they shall not overflow thee; when thou walkest through the fire, thou shalt not be burned, neither shall the flame kindle upon thee.

Se dovrai attraversare le acque, sarò con te, i fiumi non ti sommergeranno; se dovrai passare in mezzo al fuoco, non ti scotterai, la fiamma non ti potrà bruciare;

3 For I am the LORD thy God, The Holy One of Israel, thy Saviour; I have given Egypt as thy ransom, Ethiopia and Seba for thee.

poiché io sono il Signore tuo Dio, il Santo di Israele, il tuo salvatore. Io do l'Egitto come prezzo per il tuo riscatto, l'Etiopia e Seba al tuo posto.

4 Since thou art precious in My sight, and honourable, and I have loved thee; therefore will I give men for thee, and peoples for thy life.

Perché tu sei prezioso ai miei occhi, perché sei degno di stima e io ti amo, do uomini al tuo posto e nazioni in cambio della tua vita.

5 Fear not, for I am with thee; I will bring thy seed from the east, and gather thee from the west;

Non temere, perché io sono con te; dall'oriente farò venire la tua stirpe, dall'occidente io ti radunerò.

6 I will say to the north: 'Give up,' and to the south: 'Keep not back, bring My sons from far, and My daughters from the end of the earth;

Dirò al settentrione: Restituisci, e al mezzogiorno: Non trattenere; fà tornare i miei figli da lontano e le mie figlie dall'estremità della terra,

7 Every one that is called by My name, and whom I have created for My glory, I have formed him, yea, I have made him.'

quelli che portano il mio nome e che per la mia gloria ho creato e formato e anche compiuto».

8 The blind people that have eyes shall be brought forth, and the deaf that have ears.

«Fà uscire il popolo cieco, che pure ha occhi, i sordi, che pure hanno orecchi.

9 All the nations are gathered together, and the peoples are assembled; who among them can declare this, and announce to us former things? Let them bring their witnesses, that they may be justified; and let them hear, and say: 'It is truth.'

Si radunino insieme tutti i popoli e si raccolgano le nazioni. Chi può annunziare questo tra di loro e farci udire le cose passate? Presentino i loro testimoni e avranno ragione, ce li facciano udire e avranno detto la verità.

10 Ye are My witnesses, saith the LORD, and My servant whom I have chosen; that ye may know and believe Me, and understand that I am He; before Me there was no God formed, neither shall any be after Me.

Voi siete i miei testimoni - oracolo del Signore - miei servi, che io mi sono scelto perché mi conosciate e crediate in me e comprendiate che sono io. Prima di me non fu formato alcun dio né dopo ce ne sarà.

11 I, even I, am the LORD; and beside Me there is no saviour.

Io, io sono il Signore, fuori di me non v'è salvatore.

12 I have declared, and I have saved, and I have announced, and there was no strange god among you; therefore ye are My witnesses, saith the LORD, and I am God.

Io ho predetto e ho salvato, mi son fatto sentire e non c'era tra voi alcun dio straniero. Voi siete miei testimoni - oracolo del Signore - e io sono Dio,

13 Yea, since the day was I am He, and there is none that can deliver out of My hand; I will work, and who can reverse it?

sempre il medesimo dall'eternità. Nessuno può sottrarre nulla al mio potere; chi può cambiare quanto io faccio?».

14 Thus saith the LORD, your Redeemer, The Holy One of Israel: For your sake I have sent to Babylon, and I will bring down all of them as fugitives, even the Chaldeans, in the ships of their shouting.

Così dice il Signore vostro redentore, il Santo di Israele: «Per amor vostro l'ho mandato contro Babilonia e farò scendere tutte le loro spranghe, e quanto ai Caldei muterò i loro clamori in lutto.

15 I am the LORD, your Holy One, the Creator of Israel, your King.

Io sono il Signore, il vostro Santo, il creatore di Israele, il vostro re».

16 Thus saith the LORD, who maketh a way in the sea, and a path in the mighty waters;

Così dice il Signore che offrì una strada nel mare e un sentiero in mezzo ad acque possenti

17 Who bringeth forth the chariot and horse, the army and the power — they lie down together, they shall not rise, they are extinct, they are quenched as a wick:

che fece uscire carri e cavalli, esercito ed eroi insieme; essi giacciono morti: mai più si rialzeranno; si spensero come un lucignolo, sono estinti.

18 Remember ye not the former things, neither consider the things of old.

Non ricordate più le cose passate, non pensate più alle cose antiche!

19 Behold, I will do a new thing; now shall it spring forth; shall ye not know it? I will even make a way in the wilderness, and rivers in the desert.

Ecco, faccio una cosa nuova: proprio ora germoglia, non ve ne accorgete? Aprirò anche nel deserto una strada, immetterò fiumi nella steppa.

20 The beasts of the field shall honour Me, the jackals and the ostriches; because I give waters in the wilderness, and rivers in the desert, to give drink to My people, Mine elect;

Mi glorificheranno le bestie selvatiche, sciacalli e struzzi, perché avrò fornito acqua al deserto, fiumi alla steppa, per dissetare il mio popolo, il mio eletto.

21 The people which I formed for Myself, that they might tell of My praise.

Il popolo che io ho plasmato per me celebrerà le mie lodi.

22 Yet thou hast not called upon Me, O Jacob, neither hast thou wearied thyself about Me, O Israel.

Invece tu non mi hai invocato, o Giacobbe; anzi ti sei stancato di me, o Israele.

23 Thou hast not brought Me the small cattle of thy burnt-offerings; neither hast thou honoured Me with thy sacrifices. I have not burdened thee with a meal-offering, nor wearied thee with frankincense.

Non mi hai portato neppure un agnello per l'olocausto, non mi hai onorato con i tuoi sacrifici. Io non ti ho molestato con richieste di offerte, né ti ho stancato esigendo incenso.

24 Thou hast bought Me no sweet cane with money, neither hast thou satisfied Me with the fat of thy sacrifices; but thou hast burdened Me with thy sins, thou hast wearied Me with thine iniquities.

Non mi hai acquistato con denaro la cannella, né mi hai saziato con il grasso dei tuoi sacrifici. Ma tu mi hai dato molestia con i peccati, mi hai stancato con le tue iniquità.

25 I, even I, am He that blotteth out thy transgressions for Mine own sake; and thy sins I will not remember.

Io, io cancello i tuoi misfatti, per riguardo a me non ricordo più i tuoi peccati.

26 Put Me in remembrance, let us plead together; declare thou, that thou mayest be justified.

Fammi ricordare, discutiamo insieme; parla tu per giustificarti.

27 Thy first father sinned, and thine intercessors have transgressed against Me.

Il tuo primo padre peccò, i tuoi intermediari mi furono ribelli.

28 Therefore I have profaned the princes of the sanctuary, and I have given Jacob to condemnation, and Israel to reviling.

I tuoi principi hanno profanato il mio santuario; per questo ho votato Giacobbe alla esecrazione, Israele alle ingiurie.
