Isaiah 33
1 Woe to thee that spoilest, and thou wast not spoiled; and dealest treacherously, and they dealt not treacherously with thee! When thou hast ceased to spoil, thou shalt be spoiled; and when thou art weary with dealing treacherously, they shall deal treacherously with thee.
Malheur à toi qui détruis, et tu n’as pas été détruit, et à toi qui agis perfidement, et on n’a pas agi perfidement envers toi! Quand tu auras fini de détruire, tu seras détruit; quand tu auras complété la perfidie, on agira perfidement envers toi.
2 O LORD, be gracious unto us; we have waited for Thee; be Thou their arm every morning, our salvation also in the time of trouble.
Éternel, use de grâce envers nous: nous nous sommes attendus à toi. Sois leur bras tous les matins, et notre salut au temps de la détresse!
3 At the noise of the tumult the peoples are fled; at the lifting up of Thyself the nations are scattered.
À la voix du tumulte, les peuples s’enfuirent: quand tu t’es élevé, les nations ont été dispersées.
4 And your spoil is gathered as the caterpillar gathereth; as locusts leap do they leap upon it.
Et votre butin sera moissonné, comme moissonnent les locustes; comme se précipitent les sauterelles, on se précipitera sur lui.
5 The LORD is exalted, for He dwelleth on high; He hath filled Zion with justice and righteousness.
L’Éternel est exalté; car il demeure en haut, il a rempli Sion de droiture et de justice;
6 And the stability of thy times shall be a hoard of salvation — wisdom and knowledge, and the fear of the LORD which is His treasure.
et il sera la sûreté de tes temps, le trésor du salut, sagesse et connaissance. La crainte de l’Éternel sera votre trésor.
7 Behold, their valiant ones cry without; the ambassadors of peace weep bitterly.
Voici, leurs vaillants hommes crient au-dehors, les messagers de la paix pleurent amèrement.
8 The highways lie waste, the wayfaring man ceaseth; he hath broken the covenant, he hath despised the cities, he regardeth not man.
Les routes sont désertes; le passant sur le chemin a cessé. Il a rompu l’alliance, il a méprisé les villes, il n’a égard à personne.
9 The land mourneth and languisheth; Lebanon is ashamed, it withereth; Sharon is like a wilderness; and Bashan and Carmel are clean bare.
Le pays mène deuil, il languit; le Liban est honteux, il s’est fané; le Saron est devenu comme un désert, et Basan et le Carmel se dépouillent.
10 Now will I arise, saith the LORD; now will I be exalted; now will I lift Myself up.
Maintenant, dit l’Éternel, je me lèverai; maintenant je serai exalté; maintenant je m’élèverai.
11 Ye conceive chaff, ye shall bring forth stubble; your breath is a fire that shall devour you.
Vous concevrez l’herbe sèche, vous enfanterez le chaume: votre colère est un feu qui vous consumera.
12 And the peoples shall be as the burnings of lime; as thorns cut down, that are burned in the fire.
Et les peuples seront comme la pierre à chaux dans l’ardeur de la fournaise; comme des épines coupées, ils seront consumés dans le feu.
13 Hear, ye that are far off, what I have done; and, ye that are near, acknowledge My might.
Entendez, vous qui êtes loin, ce que j’ai fait; et connaissez ma puissance, vous qui êtes près!
14 The sinners in Zion are afraid; trembling hath seized the ungodly: 'Who among us shall dwell with the devouring fire? Who among us shall dwell with everlasting burnings?'
Les pécheurs ont peur dans Sion; le tremblement a saisi les impies: Qui de nous séjournera dans le feu consumant? Qui de nous séjournera dans les flammes éternelles?
15 He that walketh righteously, and speaketh uprightly; he that despiseth the gain of oppressions, that shaketh his hands from holding of bribes, that stoppeth his ears from hearing of blood, and shutteth his eyes from looking upon evil;
– Celui qui marche dans la justice, et celui qui parle avec droiture, celui qui rejette le gain [acquis] par extorsion, qui secoue ses mains pour ne pas prendre de présent, qui bouche ses oreilles pour ne pas entendre parler de sang et qui ferme ses yeux pour ne pas voir le mal,
16 He shall dwell on high; his place of defence shall be the munitions of rocks; his bread shall be given, his waters shall be sure.
– celui-là demeurera en haut: les forteresses des rochers seront sa haute retraite; son pain lui sera donné, ses eaux seront assurées.
17 Thine eyes shall see the king in his beauty; they shall behold a land stretching afar.
Tes yeux verront le roi dans sa beauté; ils contempleront le pays lointain.
18 Thy heart shall muse on the terror: 'Where is he that counted, where is he that weighed? Where is he that counted the towers?'
Ton cœur méditera la crainte: Où est l’enregistreur? où est le peseur? où est celui qui compte les tours?
19 Thou shalt not see the fierce people; a people of a deep speech that thou canst not perceive, of a stammering tongue that thou canst not understand.
Tu ne verras plus le peuple audacieux, un peuple au langage trop obscur pour l’entendre, à la langue bégayante qu’on ne comprend pas.
20 Look upon Zion, the city of our solemn gatherings; thine eyes shall see Jerusalem a peaceful habitation, a tent that shall not be removed, the stakes whereof shall never be plucked up, neither shall any of the cords thereof be broken.
Regarde Sion, la cité de nos assemblées solennelles! Tes yeux verront Jérusalem, une demeure tranquille, une tente qui ne sera pas transportée: ses pieux ne seront jamais arrachés, et aucune de ses cordes ne sera rompue;
21 But there the LORD will be with us in majesty, in a place of broad rivers and streams; wherein shall go no galley with oars, neither shall gallant ship pass thereby.
mais là l’Éternel est pour nous magnifique, – un lieu de fleuves, de larges rivières: il n’y viendra aucun vaisseau à rames, aucun noble navire n’y passera.
22 For the LORD is our Judge, the LORD is our Lawgiver, the LORD is our King; He will save us.
Car l’Éternel est notre juge, l’Éternel est notre législateur, l’Éternel est notre roi; lui, nous sauvera.
23 Thy tacklings are loosed; they do not hold the stand of their mast, they do not spread the sail; then is the prey of a great spoil divided; the lame take the prey.
Tes cordages sont relâchés: ils n’affermissent pas le pied de leur mât, ils ne déploient pas la voile. On partage alors la proie d’un grand butin, les boiteux pillent les dépouilles;
24 And the inhabitant shall not say: 'I am sick'; the people that dwell therein shall be forgiven their iniquity.
et l’habitant ne dira pas: Je suis malade; l’iniquité du peuple qui demeure là sera pardonnée.
