Isaiah 21

1 The burden of the wilderness of the sea. As whirlwinds in the South sweeping on, it cometh from the wilderness, from a dreadful land.

Dies ist die Last über die Wüste am Meer: Wie ein Wetter vom Mittag kommt, das alles umkehrt, so kommt's aus der Wüste, aus einem schrecklichen Lande.

2 A grievous vision is declared unto me: 'The treacherous dealer dealeth treacherously, and the spoiler spoileth. Go up, O Elam! besiege, O Media! All the sighing thereof have I made to cease.'

Denn mir ist ein hartes Gesicht angezeigt: Der Räuber raubt, und der Verstörer verstört. Zieh herauf, Elam! belagere sie, Madai! Ich will allem Seufzen über sie ein Ende machen.

3 Therefore are my loins filled with convulsion; pangs have taken hold upon me, as the pangs of a woman in travail; I am bent so that I cannot hear; I am affrighted so that I cannot see.

Derhalben sind meine Lenden voll Schmerzen, und Angst hat mich ergriffen wie eine Gebärerin; ich krümme mich, wenn ich's höre, und erschrecke, wenn ich's ansehe.

4 My heart is bewildered, terror hath overwhelmed me; the twilight that I longed for hath been turned for me into trembling.

Mein Herz zittert, Grauen hat mich betäubt; ich habe in der lieben Nacht keine Ruhe davor.

5 They prepare the table, they light the lamps, they eat, they drink — 'Rise up, ye princes, anoint the shield.'

Ja, richte einen Tisch zu, laß wachen auf der Warte, esset, trinket. “Macht euch auf, ihr Fürsten, schmiert den Schild!”

6 For thus hath the Lord said unto me: Go, set a watchman; let him declare what he seeth!

Denn der Herr sagte zu mir also: Gehe hin, stelle einen Wächter, der da schaue und ansage.

7 And when he seeth a troop, horsemen by pairs, a troop of asses, a troop of camels, he shall hearken diligently with much heed.

Er sieht aber Reiter reiten auf Rossen, Eseln und Kamelen und hat mit großem Fleiß Achtung darauf.

8 And he cried as a lion: 'Upon the watch-tower, O Lord, I stand continually in the daytime, and I am set in my ward all the nights.'

Und wie ein Löwe ruft er: Herr, ich stehe auf der Warte immerdar des Tages und stelle mich auf meine Hut alle Nacht.

9 And, behold, there came a troop of men, horsemen by pairs. And he spoke and said: 'Fallen, fallen is Babylon; and all the graven images of her gods are broken unto the ground.'

Und siehe, da kommt einer, der fährt auf einem Wagen; der antwortet und spricht: Babel ist gefallen, sie ist gefallen, und alle Bilder ihrer Götter sind zu Boden geschlagen.

10 O thou my threshing, and the winnowing of my floor, that which I have heard from the LORD of hosts, the God of Israel, have I declared unto you.

Meine liebe Tenne, darauf gedroschen wird! was ich gehört habe vom HERRN Zebaoth, dem Gott Israels, das verkündige ich euch.

11 The burden of Dumah. One calleth unto me out of Seir: 'Watchman, what of the night? Watchman, what of the night?'

Dies ist die Last über Duma: Man ruft zu mir aus Seir: Hüter, ist die Nacht schier hin? Hüter ist die Nacht schier hin?

12 The watchman said: 'The morning cometh, and also the night — if ye will inquire, inquire ye; return, come.'

Der Hüter aber sprach: Wenn der Morgen schon kommt, so wird es doch Nacht sein. Wenn ihr schon fragt, so werdet ihr doch wieder kommen und wieder fragen.

13 The burden upon Arabia. In the thickets in Arabia shall ye lodge, O ye caravans of Dedanites.

Dies ist die Last über Arabien: ihr werdet im Walde in Arabien herbergen, ihr Reisezüge der Dedaniter.

14 Unto him that is thirsty bring ye water! The inhabitants of the land of Tema did meet the fugitive with his bread.

Bringet den Durstigen Wasser entgegen, die ihr wohnet im Lande Thema; bietet Brot den Flüchtigen.

15 For they fled away from the swords, from the drawn sword, and from the bent bow, and from the grievousness of war.

Denn sie fliehen vor dem Schwert, ja, vor dem bloßen Schwert, vor dem gespannten Bogen, vor dem großen Streit.

16 For thus hath the Lord said unto me: 'Within a year, according to the years of a hireling, and all the glory of Kedar shall fail;

Denn also spricht der Herr zu mir: Noch in einem Jahr, wie des Tagelöhners Jahre sind, soll alle Herrlichkeit Kedars untergehen,

17 and the residue of the number of the archers, the mighty men of the children of Kedar, shall be diminished; for the LORD, the God of Israel, hath spoken it.'

und der übrigen Schützen der Helden zu Kedar soll wenig sein; denn der HERR, der Gott Israels, hat's geredet.
