Isaiah 14
1 For the LORD will have compassion on Jacob, and will yet choose Israel, and set them in their own land; and the stranger shall join himself with them, and they shall cleave to the house of Jacob.
Car Yahweh aura pitié de Jacob, et il choisira encore Israël; il les rétablira dans leur pays; les étrangers s’adjoindront à eux, et s’attacheront à la maison de Jacob.
2 And the peoples shall take them, and bring them to their place; and the house of Israel shall possess them in the land of the LORD for servants and for handmaids; and they shall take them captive, whose captives they were; and they shall rule over their oppressors.
Les peuples les prendront et les ramèneront chez eux, et la maison d’Israël se les appropriera, sur la terre de Yahweh, comme serviteurs et comme servantes; ils feront captifs ceux qui les avaient faits captifs; et ils domineront sur leurs oppresseurs.
3 And it shall come to pass in the day that the LORD shall give thee rest from thy travail, and from thy trouble, and from the hard service wherein thou wast made to serve,
Et au jour où Yahweh te fera reposer de ton labeur, de tes anxiétés, et de la dure servitude qu’on t’avait imposée,
4 that thou shalt take up this parable against the king of Babylon, and say: How hath the oppressor ceased! the exactress of gold ceased!
tu entonneras cette satire contre le roi de Babylone, et tu diras: Comment a fini le tyran, a cessé l’oppression?
5 The LORD hath broken the staff of the wicked, the sceptre of the rulers,
Yahweh a brisé le talon des méchants, le sceptre des dominateurs!
6 That smote the peoples in wrath with an incessant stroke, that ruled the nations in anger, with a persecution that none restrained.
Il frappait avec fureur les peuples, de coups sans relâche; dans sa colère, il tenait les nations sous le joug par une persécution sans répit.
7 The whole earth is at rest, and is quiet; they break forth into singing.
Toute la terre est en repos, elle est tranquille, elle éclate en cris d’allégresse.
8 Yea, the cypresses rejoice at thee, and the cedars of Lebanon: 'Since thou art laid down, no feller is come up against us.'
Les Cyprès mêmes se réjouissent de ta chute, avec les cèdres du Liban: « Depuis que tu es couché là, personne ne monte plus pour nous abattre! »
9 The nether-world from beneath is moved for thee to meet thee at thy coming; the shades are stirred up for thee, even all the chief ones of the earth; all the kings of the nations are raised up from their thrones. (Sheol h7585)
Le schéol dans ses profondeurs s’émeut à ton sujet, pour venir à ta rencontre; il réveille pour toi les ombres, tous les monarques de la terre; il fait lever de leurs trônes tous les rois des nations. (Sheol h7585)
10 All they do answer and say unto thee: 'Art thou also become weak as we? Art thou become like unto us?
Tous, ils prennent la parole pour te dire: « Toi aussi, tu es déchu comme nous, et te voilà semblable à nous! »
11 Thy pomp is brought down to the nether-world, and the noise of thy psalteries; the maggot is spread under thee, and the worms cover thee.' (Sheol h7585)
Ton faste est descendu au schéol, avec le son de tes harpes; sous toi sont répandus les vers, et la vermine est ta couverture! (Sheol h7585)
12 How art thou fallen from heaven, O day-star, son of the morning! How art thou cut down to the ground, that didst cast lots over the nations!
Comment es-tu tombé du ciel, astre brillant, fils de l’aurore? Comment es-tu renversé par terre, toi, le destructeur des nations?
13 And thou saidst in thy heart: 'I will ascend into heaven, above the stars of God will I exalt my throne, and I will sit upon the mount of meeting, in the uttermost parts of the north;
Toi qui disais en ton cœur: « Je monterai dans les cieux; au-dessus des étoiles de Dieu, j’élèverai mon trône; je m’assiérai sur la montagne de l’assemblée, dans les profondeurs du septentrion;
14 I will ascend above the heights of the clouds; I will be like the Most High.'
je monterai sur les sommets des nues, je serai semblable au Très-Haut!... »
15 Yet thou shalt be brought down to the nether-world, to the uttermost parts of the pit. (Sheol h7585)
Et te voilà descendu au schéol, dans les profondeurs de l’abîme! (Sheol h7585)
16 They that saw thee do narrowly look upon thee, they gaze earnestly at thee: 'Is this the man that made the earth to tremble, that did shake kingdoms;
Ceux qui te voient fixent sur toi leurs regards, ils te considèrent avec attention: « Est-ce là l’homme qui troublait la terre, qui ébranlait les royaumes,
17 That made the world as a wilderness, and destroyed the cities thereof; that opened not the house of his prisoners?'
qui faisait du monde un désert, détruisait les villes, et ne laissait pas ses captifs revenir chez eux?
18 All the kings of the nations, all of them, sleep in glory, every one in his own house.
Tous les rois des nations, tous, reposent avec honneur, chacun dans sa maison;
19 But thou art cast forth away from thy grave like an abhorred offshoot, in the raiment of the slain, that are thrust through with the sword, that go down to the pavement of the pit, as a carcass trodden under foot.
mais toi, on t’a jeté loin de ton sépulcre, comme un rameau qu’on méprise, couvert de morts, égorgés par l’épée, et précipités dans les flancs rocheux de l’abîme; comme un cadavre qu’on foule aux pieds.
20 Thou shalt not be joined with them in burial, because thou hast destroyed thy land, thou hast slain thy people; the seed of evil-doers shall not be named for ever.
Tu ne seras pas avec eux dans la tombe car tu as ruiné ton pays, tu as fait périr ton peuple! On ne nommera plus jamais la race des méchants.
21 Prepare ye slaughter for his children for the iniquity of their fathers; that they rise not up, and possess the earth, and fill the face of the world with cities.
Préparez à ses fils un massacre, pour le crime de leurs pères. Qu’ils ne se relèvent pas pour conquérir la terre, qu’ils ne couvrent pas de villes la face du monde!
22 And I will rise up against them, saith the LORD of hosts, and cut off from Babylon name and remnant, and offshoot and offspring, saith the LORD.
Je me lèverai contre eux, — oracle de Yahweh des armées, — et j’anéantirai de Babylone le nom et le reste, la race et le rejeton, — oracle de Yahweh.
23 I will also make it a possession for the bittern, and pools of water; and I will sweep it with the besom of destruction, saith the LORD of hosts.
Et j’en ferai un nid de hérissons, et un étang d’eaux, et je la balaierai avec le balai de la destruction, — oracle de Yahweh des armées.
24 The LORD of hosts hath sworn, saying: Surely as I have thought, so shall it come to pass; and as I have purposed, so shall it stand,
Yahweh des armées a juré en disant: « Oui, le dessein qui est arrêté s’accomplira, et ce que j’ai décidé se réalisera.
25 That I will break Asshur in My land, and upon My mountains tread him under foot; then shall his yoke depart from off them, and his burden depart from off their shoulder.
Je briserai Assur dans ma terre, et je le foulerai sur mes montagnes. Alors son joug sera ôté de dessus eux, et son fardeau sera enlevé de leurs épaules.
26 This is the purpose that is purposed upon the whole earth; and this is the hand that is stretched out upon all the nations.
C’est là le dessein qui est arrêté contre toute la terre, et c’est là la main qui est étendue contre toutes les nations!
27 For the LORD of hosts hath purposed, and who shall disannul it? And His hand is stretched out, and who shall turn it back?
Car Yahweh des armées a décidé, et qui l’empêcherait? Sa main est étendue, et qui la détournerait? »
28 In the year that king Ahaz died was this burden.
L’année de la mort du roi Achaz, cet oracle fut prononcé:
29 Rejoice not, O Philistia, all of thee, because the rod that smote thee is broken: for out of the serpent's root shall come forth a basilisk, and his fruit shall be a flying serpent.
Ne te livre pas à la joie, Philistie tout entière, de ce que la verge qui te frappait a été brisée; car de la race du serpent sortira un basilic, et son fruit sera un dragon volant.
30 And the first-born of the poor shall feed, and the needy shall lie down in safety; and I will kill thy root with famine, and thy remnant shall be slain.
Alors les plus pauvres trouveront leur pâture, et les malheureux reposeront en sécurité; mais je ferai périr ta race par la faim, et ce qui restera de toi sera exterminé. —
31 Howl, O gate; cry, O city; melt away, O Philistia, all of thee; for there cometh a smoke out of the north, and there is no straggler in his ranks.
Hurle, ô porte! Pousse des cris, ô ville! Pâme-toi de frayeur, Philistie tout entière! Car du septentrion vient une fumée, et nul ne se débande dans ses bataillons.
32 What then shall one answer the messengers of the nation? That the LORD hath founded Zion, and in her shall the afflicted of His people take refuge.
Que répondra-t-on aux envoyés de la nation? Que Yahweh a fondé Sion, et que les affligés de son peuple y trouvent un refuge.
