Hosea 12

1 Ephraim striveth after wind, and followeth after the east wind; all the day he multiplieth lies and desolation; and they make a covenant with Assyria, and oil is carried into Egypt.

Ephraim weidet sich am Wind, und setzt dem Ostwind nach den ganzen Tag; Falschheit und Verheerung mehrt es, und sie schließen einen Bund mit Aschur, und Öl wird nach Ägypten gebracht.

2 The LORD hath also a controversy with Judah, and will punish Jacob according to his ways, according to his doings will He recompense him.

Und einen Hader hat Jehovah mit Jehudah, und wird heimsuchen Jakob nach seinen Wegen, nach seinen Handlungen ihm es zurückgeben.

3 In the womb he took his brother by the heel, and by his strength he strove with a godlike being;

Im Mutterleibe hat er seinem Bruder die Ferse unterschlagen, und in seiner Vollkraft mit Gott gekämpft;

4 So he strove with an angel, and prevailed; he wept, and made supplication unto him; at Beth-el he would find him, and there he would speak with us;

Und gekämpft mit dem Engel und ihn übermocht. Er weinte und erflehte ihn. In Bethel sollte er ihn finden, und daselbst mit uns reden.

5 But the LORD, the God of hosts, the LORD is His name.

Jehovah ist der Gott Zebaoth; Jehovah ist sein Gedächtnis.

6 Therefore turn thou to thy God; keep mercy and justice, and wait for thy God continually.

Und du, kehre zurück zu deinem Gott; halte Gerechtigkeit und Gericht, und hoffe beständig auf deinen Gott.

7 As for the trafficker, the balances of deceit are in his hand. He loveth to oppress.

Kanaan hat in seiner Hand die Waage des Betrugs, er liebt zu bedrücken.

8 And Ephraim said: 'Surely I am become rich, I have found me wealth; in all my labours they shall find in me no iniquity that were sin.'

Und Ephraim spricht: Wohl bin ich reich geworden, habe Wohlstand mir gefunden; aber bei all meinem Bemühen wird man an mir keine Missetat finden, die Sünde wäre.

9 But I am the LORD thy God from the land of Egypt; I will yet again make thee to dwell in tents, as in the days of the appointed season.

Aber Ich bin Jehovah, dein Gott, vom Lande Ägypten her; Ich werde dich noch in Zelten wohnen lassen, wie in den Tagen der Festzeit;

10 I have also spoken unto the prophets, and I have multiplied visions; and by the ministry of the prophets have I used similitudes.

Und Ich rede zu den Propheten, und Ich bin es, Der des Gesichtes viel macht, und durch der Propheten Hand Gleichnisse gebe.

11 If Gilead be given to iniquity becoming altogether vanity, in Gilgal they sacrifice unto bullocks; yea, their altars shall be as heaps in the furrows of the field.

Ist Gilead ein Aven? Sie werden zur Eitelkeit. In Gilgal opfern sie Ochsen; auch sind ihre Altäre wie Steinhaufen auf den Furchen des Feldes.

12 And Jacob fled into the field of Aram, and Israel served for a wife, and for a wife he kept sheep.

Und Jakobs entwich in das Gefilde Arams, und Israel diente um ein Weib, und um ein Weib hütete er.

13 And by a prophet the LORD brought Israel up out of Egypt, and by a prophet was he kept.

Und durch einen Propheten führte Jehovah Israel herauf aus Ägypten, und durch einen Propheten ward es gehütet.

14 Ephraim hath provoked most bitterly; therefore shall his blood be cast upon him, and his reproach shall his Lord return unto him.

Ephraim hat gereizt durch Bitterkeiten, und Er läßt sein Blut auf ihm, und sein Herr gibt ihm zurück seine Schmach.
