Haggai 2
1 In the seventh month, in the one and twentieth day of the month, came the word of the LORD by Haggai the prophet, saying:
Le septième mois, le vingt-unième jour du mois, la parole de l'Éternel fut adressée par Aggée, le prophète, en ces mots:
2 'Speak now to Zerubbabel the son of Shealtiel, governor of Judah, and to Joshua the son of Jehozadak, the high priest, and to the remnant of the people, saying:
Parle donc à Zorobabel, fils de Salathiel, gouverneur de Juda, et à Josué, fils de Jéhotsadak, grand sacrificateur, et aux restes du peuple, et dis:
3 Who is left among you that saw this house in its former glory? and how do ye see it now? is not such a one as nothing in your eyes?
Qui d'entre vous a assez vécu pour avoir vu cette maison dans sa splendeur première? Et dans quel état! la voyez-vous maintenant? n'est-ce pas, une telle maison est comme rien à vos yeux?
4 Yet now be strong, O Zerubbabel, saith the LORD; and be strong, O Joshua, son of Jehozadak, the high priest; and be strong, all ye people of the land, saith the LORD, and work; for I am with you, saith the LORD of hosts.
Mais maintenant, courage, Zorobabel! dit l'Éternel, courage, Josué, fils de Jéhotsadak, grand sacrificateur! et courage, vous, tout le peuple du pays! dit l'Éternel, et travaillez! car je suis avec vous, dit l'Éternel des armées,
5 The word that I covenanted with you when ye came out of Egypt have I established, and My spirit abideth among you; fear ye not.
aux termes de l'alliance que je conclus avec vous à votre sortie de l'Egypte, et mon Esprit demeure au milieu de vous; soyez sans crainte!
6 For thus saith the LORD of hosts: Yet once, it is a little while, and I will shake the heavens, and the earth, and the sea, and the dry land;
Car ainsi parle l'Éternel des armées: Encore un peu de temps, et j'ébranlerai les Cieux et la terre, et la mer et la terre sèche,
7 and I will shake all nations, and the choicest things of all nations shall come, and I will fill this house with glory, saith the LORD of hosts.
et j'ébranlerai toutes les nations, et les objets précieux de tous les peuples afflueront, et je remplirai cette maison de splendeur, dit l'Éternel des armées.
8 Mine is the silver, and Mine the gold, saith the LORD of hosts.
A moi est l'argent, et à moi l'or, dit l'Éternel des armées.
9 The glory of this latter house shall be greater than that of the former, saith the LORD of hosts; and in this place will I give peace, saith the LORD of hosts.'
La gloire à venir de cette maison sera plus grande que la première, dit l'Éternel des armées, et dans ce lieu-ci j'établirai la paix, dit l'Éternel des armées.
10 In the four and twentieth day of the ninth month, in the second year of Darius, came the word of the LORD by Haggai the prophet, saying:
Le vingt-quatrième jour du neuvième mois, la seconde année de Darius, la parole de l'Éternel fut adressée par Aggée, le prophète, en ces mots:
11 'Thus saith the LORD of hosts: Ask now the priests for instruction, saying:
Ainsi parle l'Éternel des armées: Propose aux sacrificateurs une question de loi, en ces mots:
12 If one bear hallowed flesh in the skirt of his garment, and with his skirt do touch bread, or pottage, or wine, or oil, or any food, shall it be holy?' And the priests answered and said: 'No.'
Si quelqu'un porte de la chair sacrée dans la bordure de son manteau, et que de cette bordure il touche du pain ou du légume ou du vin et de l'huile et un aliment quelconque, ces choses en deviendront-elles sacrées? Et les sacrificateurs répondirent et dirent: Non!
13 Then said Haggai: 'If one that is unclean by a dead body touch any of these, shall it be unclean?' And the priests answered and said: 'It shall be unclean.'
Et Aggée dit: Si un homme souillé par un cadavre touche à toutes ces choses, seront-elles souillées? Et les sacrificateurs répondirent et dirent: Elles seront souillées.
14 Then answered Haggai, and said: 'So is this people, and so is this nation before me, saith the LORD; and so is every work of their hands; and that which they offer there is unclean.
Alors Aggée prit la parole et dit: Il en est de même de ce peuple et de toute cette nation à mes yeux, dit l'Éternel, et ainsi de toute l'œuvre de leurs mains, et toutes les offrandes qu'ils font là, sont souillées.
15 And now, I pray you, consider from this day and forward — before a stone was laid upon a stone in the temple of the LORD,
Et maintenant soyez attentifs [au temps écoulé] depuis aujourd'hui en remontant au jour où l'on ne mettait pas encore pierre sur pierre dans le temple de l'Éternel.
16 through all that time, when one came to a heap of twenty measures, there were but ten; when one came to the winevat to draw out fifty press-measures, there were but twenty;
Dès ce moment on venait à un tas de blé pour trouver vingt, et il n'y avait que dix; on venait à la cuve pour puiser cinquante au pressoir, et il n'y avait que vingt.
17 I smote you with blasting and with mildew and with hail in all the work of your hands; yet ye turned not to Me, saith the LORD —
Je vous frappai par le charbon et la nielle et la grêle dans les travaux de vos mains, mais vous ne revîntes pas à moi, dit l'Éternel.
18 consider, I pray you, from this day and forward, from the four and twentieth day of the ninth month, even from the day that the foundation of the LORD'S temple was laid, consider it;
Soyez attentifs [au temps écoulé] depuis aujourd'hui en remontant, depuis le vingt-quatrième jour du neuvième mois au jour où fut fondé le temple de l'Éternel, soyez attentifs!
19 is the seed yet in the barn? yea, the vine, and the fig-tree, and the pomegranate, and the olive-tree hath not brought forth — from this day will I bless you.'
Y a-t-il encore du grain dans les greniers? et de plus, la vigne et le figuier et le grenadier et l'olivier n'ont rien produit. Mais dès ce jour je vous bénirai.
20 And the word of the LORD came the second time unto Haggai in the four and twentieth day of the month, saying:
Et la parole de l'Éternel fut adressée pour la seconde fois à Aggée, le vingt-quatrième jour du mois, en ces mots:
21 'Speak to Zerubbabel, governor of Judah, saying: I will shake the heavens and the earth;
Parle à Zorobabel, gouverneur de Juda, et dis:
22 and I will overthrow the throne of kingdoms, and I will destroy the strength of the kingdoms of the nations; and I will overthrow the chariots, and those that ride in them; and the horses and their riders shall come down, every one by the sword of his brother.
J'ébranlerai les Cieux et la terre, et je renverserai les trônes des rois, et je détruirai la puissance des empires des peuples, et je renverserai les chars et ceux qui les montent, et les chevaux et leurs cavaliers seront culbutés, par l'épée les uns des autres.
23 In that day, saith the LORD of hosts, will I take thee, O Zerubbabel, My servant, the son of Shealtiel, saith the LORD, and will make thee as a signet; for I have chosen thee, saith the LORD of hosts.'
Dans ce même temps, dit l'Éternel des armées, je te prendrai, Zorobabel, fils de Salathiel, mon serviteur, dit l'Éternel, et te garderai comme un sceau; car je t'ai choisi, dit l'Éternel des armées.
