Genesis 37
1 And Jacob dwelt in the land of his father's sojournings, in the land of Canaan.
Jacob habitó en la tierra de Canaán, la tierra de las peregrinaciones de su padre.
2 These are the generations of Jacob. Joseph, being seventeen years old, was feeding the flock with his brethren, being still a lad even with the sons of Bilhah, and with the sons of Zilpah, his father's wives; and Joseph brought evil report of them unto their father.
Esta es la historia de la familia de Jacob: José tenía 17 años de edad y apacentaba las ovejas con sus hermanos. El joven estaba con los hijos de Bilha y de Zilpa, concubinas de su padre. José informaba a su padre la mala fama de ellos.
3 Now Israel loved Joseph more than all his children, because he was the son of his old age; and he made him a coat of many colours.
Israel amaba a José más que a todos sus hijos, porque era el hijo de su vejez. Le hizo una túnica con rayas de colores.
4 And when his brethren saw that their father loved him more than all his brethren, they hated him, and could not speak peaceably unto him.
Sus hermanos, al ver que su padre lo prefería sobre todos ellos, lo aborrecían y no podían hablarle pacíficamente.
5 And Joseph dreamed a dream, and he told it to his brethren; and they hated him yet the more.
José tuvo un sueño y lo contó a sus hermanos, con lo cual aumentaron más su odio contra él
6 And he said unto them: 'Hear, I pray you, this dream which I have dreamed:
pues él les dijo: Escuchen ahora este sueño que tuve.
7 for, behold, we were binding sheaves in the field, and, lo, my sheaf arose, and also stood upright; and, behold, your sheaves came round about, and bowed down to my sheaf.'
Estábamos ahí en medio del campo y atábamos gavillas. Miré que mi gavilla se levantaba y seguía erguida. Y las gavillas de ustedes la rodeaban y se inclinaban ante la mía.
8 And his brethren said to him: 'Shalt thou indeed reign over us? or shalt thou indeed have dominion over us?' And they hated him yet the more for his dreams, and for his words.
Le respondieron sus hermanos: ¿Vas a reinar sobre nosotros y nos dominarás? Y lo odiaron aun más a causa de sus sueños y de sus palabras.
9 And he dreamed yet another dream, and told it to his brethren, and said: 'Behold, I have dreamed yet a dream: and, behold, the sun and the moon and eleven stars bowed down to me.'
Tuvo otro sueño y lo contó a sus hermanos: Miren, me vino otro sueño: que el sol, la luna y once estrellas se inclinaban ante mí.
10 And he told it to his father, and to his brethren; and his father rebuked him, and said unto him: 'What is this dream that thou hast dreamed? Shall I and thy mother and thy brethren indeed come to bow down to thee to the earth?'
Lo relató a su padre y a sus hermanos. Pero su padre lo reprendió y le dijo: ¿Qué fue esto que soñaste? ¿Yo, tu madre y tus hermanos nos postraremos en tierra ante ti?
11 And his brethren envied him; but his father kept the saying in mind.
Sus hermanos le tenían envidia, pero su padre meditaba en esto.
12 And his brethren went to feed their father's flock in Shechem.
Cuando sus hermanos apacentaban el rebaño de su padre en Siquem,
13 And Israel said unto Joseph: 'Do not thy brethren feed the flock in Shechem? come, and I will send thee unto them.' And he said to him: 'Here am I.'
Israel dijo a José: ¿No están tus hermanos pastoreando en Siquem? Ven, te enviaré a ellos. Y él respondió: Aquí estoy dispuesto.
14 And he said to him: 'Go now, see whether it is well with thy brethren, and well with the flock; and bring me back word.' So he sent him out of the vale of Hebron, and he came to Shechem.
E Israel le dijo: Vé ahora. Mira cómo están tus hermanos, cómo se encuentra el rebaño y tráeme un informe. Así lo envió desde el valle de Hebrón, y llegó a Siquem.
15 And a certain man found him, and, behold, he was wandering in the field. And the man asked him, saying: 'What seekest thou?'
Un hombre lo halló cuando deambulaba por el campo y le preguntó: ¿Qué buscas?
16 And he said: 'I seek my brethren. Tell me, I pray thee, where they are feeding the flock.'
Y dijo: Busco a mis hermanos. Te ruego que me digas dónde pastorean ellos.
17 And the man said: 'They are departed hence; for I heard them say: Let us go to Dothan.' And Joseph went after his brethren, and found them in Dothan.
El hombre respondió: Salieron de aquí. Los oí decir: Vamos a Dotán. José fue tras sus hermanos y los halló en Dotán.
18 And they saw him afar off, and before he came near unto them, they conspired against him to slay him.
Cuando lo vieron de lejos, antes que se acercara, se confabularon para matarlo.
19 And they said one to another: 'Behold, this dreamer cometh.
Y se dijeron el uno al otro: ¡Aquí viene el soñador!
20 Come now therefore, and let us slay him, and cast him into one of the pits, and we will say: An evil beast hath devoured him; and we shall see what will become of his dreams.'
Ahora pues, vamos, matémoslo y echémoslo en una cisterna, y diremos que una mala bestia lo devoró. Entonces veremos en qué pararán sus sueños.
21 And Reuben heard it, and delivered him out of their hand; and said: 'Let us not take his life.'
Cuando Rubén oyó esto, al intentar librarlo de mano de ellos, dijo: ¡No le quitemos la vida!
22 And Reuben said unto them: 'Shed no blood; cast him into this pit that is in the wilderness, but lay no hand upon him' — that he might deliver him out of their hand, to restore him to his father.
Y Rubén añadió: No derramen sangre. Échenlo en esta cisterna que está en el desierto, pero no extiendan la mano contra él. Esto dijo a fin de librarlo de sus manos para hacerlo volver a su padre.
23 And it came to pass, when Joseph was come unto his brethren, that they stripped Joseph of his coat, the coat of many colours that was on him;
Sucedió que cuando José llegó hasta sus hermanos, lo despojaron de su túnica, la túnica de rayas de colores que llevaba sobre él.
24 and they took him, and cast him into the pit — and the pit was empty, there was no water in it.
Lo tomaron y lo echaron en la cisterna, pero la cisterna estaba vacía. No había agua en ella.
25 And they sat down to eat bread; and they lifted up their eyes and looked, and, behold, a caravan of Ishmaelites came from Gilead, with their camels bearing spicery and balm and ladanum, going to carry it down to Egypt.
Luego se sentaron a comer pan. Al levantar sus ojos vieron una caravana de ismaelitas que iba de Galaad, y llevaba en sus camellos especias, bálsamo y mirra para llevarlos a Egipto.
26 And Judah said unto his brethren: 'What profit is it if we slay our brother and conceal his blood?
Entonces Judá preguntó a sus hermanos: ¿Qué provecho hay que matemos a nuestro hermano y ocultemos su sangre?
27 Come, and let us sell him to the Ishmaelites, and let not our hand be upon him; for he is our brother, our flesh.' And his brethren hearkened unto him.
Vendámoslo a los ismaelitas y no levantemos nuestra mano contra él, pues es nuestro hermano, nuestra carne. Y sus hermanos [le] obedecieron.
28 And there passed by Midianites, merchantmen; and they drew and lifted up Joseph out of the pit, and sold Joseph to the Ishmaelites for twenty shekels of silver. And they brought Joseph into Egypt.
Cuando pasaron los mercaderes madianitas, sacaron a José de la cisterna, y lo vendieron a los ismaelitas por 20 piezas de plata. Y ellos llevaron a José a Egipto.
29 And Reuben returned unto the pit; and, behold, Joseph was not in the pit; and he rent his clothes.
Cuando Rubén volvió a la cisterna, no halló a José allí. Entonces rasgó sus ropas,
30 And he returned unto his brethren, and said: 'The child is not; and as for me, whither shall I go?'
se volvió a sus hermanos y les exclamó: ¡El muchacho no está allí! ¿Y yo, a dónde iré?
31 And they took Joseph's coat, and killed a he-goat, and dipped the coat in the blood;
Entonces tomaron la túnica de José, degollaron un cabrito y empaparon la túnica con la sangre.
32 and they sent the coat of many colours, and they brought it to their father; and said: 'This have we found. Know now whether it is thy son's coat or not.'
Luego enviaron la túnica de rayas de colores a su padre y dijeron: Hallamos esto. Reconoce y mira si es o no la túnica de tu hijo.
33 And he knew it, and said: 'It is my son's coat; an evil beast hath devoured him; Joseph is without doubt torn in pieces.'
Él la reconoció y exclamó: ¡Es la túnica de mi hijo! Alguna mala bestia lo devoró. ¡Sin duda José fue destrozado!
34 And Jacob rent his garments, and put sackcloth upon his loins, and mourned for his son many days.
Entonces Jacob rasgó sus ropas, se cubrió con tela áspera e hizo duelo por su hijo durante muchos días.
35 And all his sons and all his daughters rose up to comfort him; but he refused to be comforted; and he said: 'Nay, but I will go down to the grave to my son mourning.' And his father wept for him. (Sheol h7585)
Todos sus hijos e hijas se levantaron para consolarlo, pero él rehusó ser consolado y decía: ¡Descenderé enlutado hasta mi hijo en el Seol! Y su padre lloraba por él. (Sheol h7585)
36 And the Midianites sold him into Egypt unto Potiphar, an officer of Pharaoh's, the captain of the guard.
Entre tanto, los madianitas lo vendieron en Egipto a Potifar, funcionario de Faraón, capitán de la guardia.
