< Genesis 23 >

1 And the life of Sarah was a hundred and seven and twenty years; these were the years of the life of Sarah.
Saala yawangaala emyaka kikumi mu abiri mu musanvu.
2 And Sarah died in Kiriatharba — the same is Hebron — in the land of Canaan; and Abraham came to mourn for Sarah, and to weep for her.
N’afiira e Kiriyasuwalaba, ye Kebbulooni, mu nsi ya Kanani. Saala bwe yafa Ibulayimu n’ayingira okumukungubagira n’amukaabira.
3 And Abraham rose up from before his dead, and spoke unto the children of Heth, saying:
Oluvannyuma Ibulayimu n’ava awali omulambo gwe n’agenda eri Abakiiti n’abagamba nti,
4 'I am a stranger and a sojourner with you: give me a possession of a burying-place with you, that I may bury my dead out of my sight.'
“Ndi mugenyi era omutambuze mu mmwe, munfunire ekifo aw’okuziika, ndyoke nziikewo omuntu wange anve ku maaso.”
5 And the children of Heth answered Abraham, saying unto him:
Abakiiti ne baddamu Ibulayimu nti,
6 'Hear us, my lord: thou art a mighty prince among us; in the choice of our sepulchres bury thy dead; none of us shall withhold from thee his sepulchre, but that thou mayest bury thy dead.'
“Tuwulirize mukama waffe. Laba, oli muntu mukulu wakati mu ffe. Ziika mukazi wo mu emu ku ntaana zaffe gy’oneeroboza. Tewali n’omu mu ffe anaakuuma ntaana ye, oba okukuziyiza okuziika omuntu wo.”
7 And Abraham rose up, and bowed down to the people of the land, even to the children of Heth.

10 Now Ephron was sitting in the midst of the children of Heth; and Ephron the Hittite answered Abraham in the hearing of the children of Heth, even of all that went in at the gate of his city, saying:
Mu kiseera ekyo Efulooni yali atudde awo wakati mu Bakiiti. Efulooni, Omukiiti n’addamu Ibulayimu nga Abakiiti bonna abaaliwo mu mulyango gw’ekibuga nga bawulira nti,

“Nedda mukama wange. Mpuliriza. Nkuwadde ennimiro n’empuku erimu, ng’abantu bange balaba, ziika omuntu wo.”
12 And Abraham bowed down before the people of the land.
Awo Ibulayimu n’avuunama mu maaso gaabwe bonna.

N’agamba Efulooni, bonna nga bawulira nti, “Obanga okkirizza, nkusaba nsasule omuwendo gw’ennimiro gwonna ndyoke nziikewo mukazi wange.”
14 And Ephron answered Abraham, saying unto him:
Efulooni n’addamu Ibulayimu nti,
15 'My lord, hearken unto me: a piece of land worth four hundred shekels of silver, what is that betwixt me and thee? bury therefore thy dead.'
“Mpuliriza mukama wange, ennimiro esaana ebitundu by’effeeza ebikumi bina. Kale ekyo ki eri ab’omukwano? Twala ennimiro oziikemu abafu bo.”
16 And Abraham hearkened unto Ephron; and Abraham weighed to Ephron the silver, which he had named in the hearing of the children of Heth, four hundred shekels of silver, current money with the merchant.
