Genesis 2
1 And the heaven and the earth were finished, and all the host of them.
Fueron hechos los cielos y la tierra, y toda su hueste.
2 And on the seventh day God finished His work which He had made; and He rested on the seventh day from all His work which He had made.
En el día séptimo ʼElohim había acabado su labor que hizo. Descansó de toda su obra en el día séptimo.
3 And God blessed the seventh day, and hallowed it; because that in it He rested from all His work which God in creating had made.
ʼElohim bendijo el día séptimo y lo santificó, porque en él ʼElohim descansó de toda su obra que tenía para hacer.
4 These are the generations of the heaven and of the earth when they were created, in the day that the LORD God made earth and heaven.
Este fue el origen de los cielos y la tierra cuando fueron creados. El día en el cual Yavé ʼElohim hizo [la] tierra y [los] cielos
5 No shrub of the field was yet in the earth, and no herb of the field had yet sprung up; for the LORD God had not caused it to rain upon the earth, and there was not a man to till the ground;
no había aún alguna planta del campo. Ni brotaba aún en la tierra alguna hierba del campo, porque Yavé ʼElohim no había enviado lluvia sobre la tierra. Ni había hombre para que labrara el suelo.
6 but there went up a mist from the earth, and watered the whole face of the ground.
Pero subía de la tierra un vapor que regaba la superficie del suelo.
7 Then the LORD God formed man of the dust of the ground, and breathed into his nostrils the breath of life; and man became a living soul.
Entonces Yavé ʼElohim modeló al hombre de la tierra roja, e insufló en su nariz aliento de vida. Y el hombre fue un ser viviente.
8 And the LORD God planted a garden eastward, in Eden; and there He put the man whom He had formed.
Yavé ʼElohim plantó un huerto al oriente de Edén, y colocó allí al hombre que creó.
9 And out of the ground made the LORD God to grow every tree that is pleasant to the sight, and good for food; the tree of life also in the midst of the garden, and the tree of the knowledge of good and evil.
Yavé ʼElohim hizo brotar de la tierra todo árbol agradable a la vista y bueno para comer. En medio del huerto estaba el árbol de la vida y el árbol del conocimiento del bien y del mal.
10 And a river went out of Eden to water the garden; and from thence it was parted, and became four heads.
Del Edén salía un río que regaba el huerto y desde allí se dividía en cuatro cauces.
11 The name of the first is Pishon; that is it which compasseth the whole land of Havilah, where there is gold;
El nombre del primero era Pisón. Éste es el que rodea toda la tierra de Havila, donde hay oro.
12 and the gold of that land is good; there is bdellium and the onyx stone.
El oro de aquella tierra es bueno. Allí hay ámbar y piedra ónice.
13 And the name of the second river is Gihon; the same is it that compasseth the whole land of Cush.
El nombre del segundo río era Guijón. Éste es el que rodea toda la tierra de Cus.
14 And the name of the third river is Tigris; that is it which goeth toward the east of Asshur. And the fourth river is the Euphrates.
El nombre del tercer río era Hidequel, que fluye al oriente de Asiria. Y el cuarto río era el Éufrates.
15 And the LORD God took the man, and put him into the garden of Eden to dress it and to keep it.
Entonces Yavé ʼElohim tomó al hombre y lo puso en el huerto de Edén para que lo cultivara y lo guardara.
16 And the LORD God commanded the man, saying: 'Of every tree of the garden thou mayest freely eat;
Yavé ʼElohim ordenó al hombre: De todo árbol del huerto puedes comer.
17 but of the tree of the knowledge of good and evil, thou shalt not eat of it; for in the day that thou eatest thereof thou shalt surely die.'
Pero del árbol del conocimiento del bien y del mal, no comerás de él, porque el día cuando comas de él, ciertamente morirás.
18 And the LORD God said: 'It is not good that the man should be alone; I will make him a help meet for him.'
Y Yavé ʼElohim dijo: No es bueno que el hombre esté solo. Le haré ayuda semejante a él.
19 And out of the ground the LORD God formed every beast of the field, and every fowl of the air; and brought them unto the man to see what he would call them; and whatsoever the man would call every living creature, that was to be the name thereof.
Porque Yavé ʼElohim formó de la tierra toda bestia del campo y toda ave de los cielos, y los llevó al hombre para que viera cómo los llamaría. Así como el hombre llamó a cada ser viviente, ése es su nombre.
20 And the man gave names to all cattle, and to the fowl of the air, and to every beast of the field; but for Adam there was not found a help meet for him.
El hombre dio nombres a todos los animales, a las aves del cielo y a toda bestia del campo. Pero para el hombre no se halló una ayuda semejante a él.
21 And the LORD God caused a deep sleep to fall upon the man, and he slept; and He took one of his ribs, and closed up the place with flesh instead thereof.
Entonces Yavé ʼElohim hizo caer al hombre en un sueño profundo. Y mientras dormía, tomó una de sus costillas y cerró la carne en su lugar.
22 And the rib, which the LORD God had taken from the man, made He a woman, and brought her unto the man.
De la costilla que Yavé ʼElohim tomó del hombre hizo una mujer, y la llevó al hombre.
23 And the man said: 'This is now bone of my bones, and flesh of my flesh; she shall be called Woman, because she was taken out of Man.'
Y el hombre exclamó: ¡Ahora ésta es hueso de mis huesos y carne de mi carne! Por esto será llamada Varona, porque del varón fue tomada.
24 Therefore shall a man leave his father and his mother, and shall cleave unto his wife, and they shall be one flesh.
Por tanto el hombre dejará a su padre y a su madre, se unirá a su esposa y serán una sola carne.
25 And they were both naked, the man and his wife, and were not ashamed.
El hombre y su esposa estaban ambos desnudos, y no se avergonzaban.
