Ezra 4
1 Now when the adversaries of Judah and Benjamin heard that the children of the captivity were building a temple unto the LORD, the God of Israel;
Ouvindo pois os adversários de Judá e Benjamin que os que tornaram do cativeiro, edificavam o templo ao Senhor Deus de Israel,
2 then they drew near to Zerubbabel, and to the heads of fathers' houses, and said unto them: 'Let us build with you; for we seek your God, as ye do; and we do sacrifice unto Him since the days of Esarhaddon king of Assyria, who brought us up hither.'
Chegaram-se a Zorobabel e aos chefes dos pais, e disseram-lhes: deixai-nos edificar convosco, porque, como vós, buscaremos a vosso Deus; como também já lhe sacrificamos desde os dias de Asar-Haddon, rei de Assur, que nos fez subir aqui.
3 But Zerubbabel, and Jeshua, and the rest of the heads of fathers' houses of Israel, said unto them: 'Ye have nothing to do with us to build a house unto our God; but we ourselves together will build unto the LORD, the God of Israel, as king Cyrus the king of Persia hath commanded us.'
Porém Zorobabel, e Josué, e os outros chefes dos pais de Israel lhes disseram: Não convém que vós e nós edifiquemos casa a nosso Deus; mas nós sós a edificaremos ao Senhor, Deus de Israel, como nos ordenou o rei Cyro, rei da Pérsia
4 Then the people of the land weakened the hands of the people of Judah, and harried them while they were building,
Todavia o povo da terra debilitava as mãos do povo de Judá, e inquietava-os no edificar.
5 and hired counsellors against them, to frustrate their purpose, all the days of Cyrus king of Persia, even until the reign of Darius king of Persia.
E alugaram contra eles conselheiros, para frustrarem o seu conselho, todos os dias de Cyro, rei da Pérsia, até ao reinado de Dario, rei da Pérsia.
6 And in the reign of Ahasuerus, in the beginning of his reign, wrote they an accusation against the inhabitants of Judah and Jerusalem.
E sob o reino de Ahasuero, no princípio do seu reinado, escreveram uma acusação contra os habitantes de Judá e de Jerusalém.
7 And in the days of Artaxerxes wrote Bishlam, Mithredath, Tabeel, and the rest of his companions, unto Artaxerxes king of Persia; and the writing of the letter was written in the Aramaic character, and set forth in the Aramaic tongue.
E nos dias de Artaxerxes escreveu Bislam, Mithredath, Tabeel, e os outros da sua companhia, a Artaxerxes, rei da Pérsia: e a carta estava escrita em caracteres syriacos, e na língua syriaca.
8 Rehum the commander and Shimshai the scribe wrote a letter against Jerusalem to Artaxerxes the king in this sort —
Escreveram pois Rhehum, o chanceler, e Simsai, o escrivão, uma carta contra Jerusalém, ao rei Artaxerxes, nesta maneira:
9 then wrote Rehum the commander, and Shimshai the scribe, and the rest of their companions; the Dinites, and the Apharesattechites, the Tarpelites, the Apharesites, the Archevites, the Babylonians, the Shushanchites, the Dehites, the Elamites,
Então escreveu Rhehum, o chanceler, e Simsai, o escrivão, e os outros da sua companhia: os dinaitas e apharsathehitas, tarpelitas, apharsitas, archevitas, babilônios, susanchitas, dehavitas, elamitas.
10 and the rest of the nations whom the great and noble Asenappar brought over, and set in the city of Samaria, and the rest that are in the country beyond the River: — 'And now —
E os outros povos, que transportou o grande e afamado Asnappar, e que ele fez habitar na cidade de Samaria, e os outros de aquém do rio, e em tal tempo.
11 this is the copy of the letter that they sent unto him, even unto Artaxerxes the king — thy servants the men beyond the River — and now
Este pois é o teor da carta que ao rei Artaxerxes lhe mandaram: "Teus servos, os homens de aquém do rio, e em tal tempo.
12 be it known unto the king, that the Jews that came up from thee are come to us unto Jerusalem; they are building the rebellious and the bad city, and have finished the walls, and are digging out the foundations.
Saiba o rei que os judeus que subiram de ti vieram a nós a Jerusalém, e edificam aquela rebelde e malvada cidade, e vão restaurando os seus muros, e reparando os seus fundamentos.
13 Be it known now unto the king, that, if this city be builded, and the walls finished, they will not pay tribute, impost, or toll, and so thou wilt endamage the revenue of the kings.
Agora saiba o rei que, se aquela cidade se reedificar, e os muros se restaurarem, não pagarão os direitos, os tributos e as rendas; e assim se danificará a fazenda dos reis.
14 Now because we eat the salt of the palace, and it is not meet for us to see the king's dishonour, therefore have we sent and announced to the king,
Agora pois, porquanto assalariados somos do paço, e não nos convém ver a desonra do rei, por isso mandamos dar aviso ao rei,
15 that search may be made in the book of the records of thy fathers; so shalt thou find in the book of the records, and know that this city is a rebellious city, and hurtful unto kings and provinces, and that they have moved sedition within the same of old time; for which cause was this city laid waste.
Para que se busque no livro das crônicas de teus pais, e acharás no livro das crônicas, e saberás que aquela foi uma cidade rebelde, e danosa aos reis e províncias, e que nela fizeram rebelião de tempos antigos; pelo que foi aquela cidade destruída.
16 We announce to the king that, if this city be builded, and the walls finished, by this means thou shalt have no portion beyond the River.'
Nós pois fazemos notório ao rei que, se aquela cidade se reedificar, e os seus muros se restaurarem, desta maneira não terás porção alguma desta banda do rio.
17 Then sent the king an answer unto Rehum the commander, and to Shimshai the scribe, and to the rest of their companions that dwell in Samaria, and unto the rest beyond the River: 'Peace, and now
E o rei enviou esta resposta a Rhehum, o chanceler, e a Simsai, o escrivão, e aos mais da sua companhia, que habitavam em Samaria; como também ao resto dos que estavam de além do rio: Paz hajais! e em tal tempo.
18 the letter which ye sent unto us hath been plainly read before me.
A carta que nos enviastes foi explicitamente lida diante de mim.
19 And I decreed, and search hath been made, and it is found that this city of old time hath made insurrection against kings, and that rebellion and sedition have been made therein.
E, ordenando-o eu, buscaram e acharam, que de tempos antigos aquela cidade se levantou contra os reis, e nela se tem feito rebelião e sedição.
20 There have been mighty kings also over Jerusalem, who have ruled over all the country beyond the River; and tribute, impost, and toll, was paid unto them.
Também houve reis poderosos sobre Jerusalém que de além do rio dominaram em todo o lugar, e se lhes pagaram direitos, e tributos, e rendas.
21 Make ye now a decree to cause these men to cease, and that this city be not builded, until a decree shall be made by me.
Agora pois dai ordem para impedirdes aqueles homens, afim de que não se edifique aquela cidade, até que se dê uma ordem por mim.
22 And take heed that ye be not slack herein; why should damage grow to the hurt of the kings?'
E guardai-vos de cometerdes erro nisto; porque cresceria o dano para prejuízo dos reis?
23 Then when the copy of king Artaxerxes' letter was read before Rehum, and Shimshai the scribe, and their companions, they went in haste to Jerusalem unto the Jews, and made them to cease by force and power.
Então, depois que a copia da carta do rei Artaxerxes se leu perante Rhehum, e Simsai, o escrivão, e seus companheiros, apressadamente foram eles a Jerusalém, aos judeus, e os impediram à força de braço e com violência.
24 Then ceased the work of the house of God which is at Jerusalem; and it ceased unto the second year of the reign of Darius king of Persia.
Então cessou a obra da casa de Deus, que estava em Jerusalém: e cessou até ao ano segundo do reinado de Dario rei da Pérsia.
