Ezra 4
1 Now when the adversaries of Judah and Benjamin heard that the children of the captivity were building a temple unto the LORD, the God of Israel;
Da aber die Widersacher Judas und Benjamins höreten, daß die Kinder des Gefängnisses dem HERRN, dem Gott Israels, den Tempel baueten,
2 then they drew near to Zerubbabel, and to the heads of fathers' houses, and said unto them: 'Let us build with you; for we seek your God, as ye do; and we do sacrifice unto Him since the days of Esarhaddon king of Assyria, who brought us up hither.'
kamen sie zu Serubabel und zu den obersten Vätern und sprachen zu ihnen: Wir wollen mit euch bauen, denn wir suchen euren Gott, gleichwie ihr; und wir haben nicht geopfert, seit der Zeit Assar-Haddon, der König zu Assur, uns hat heraufgebracht.
3 But Zerubbabel, and Jeshua, and the rest of the heads of fathers' houses of Israel, said unto them: 'Ye have nothing to do with us to build a house unto our God; but we ourselves together will build unto the LORD, the God of Israel, as king Cyrus the king of Persia hath commanded us.'
Aber Serubabel und Jesua und die andern obersten Väter unter Israel antworteten ihnen: Es ziemet sich nicht uns und euch, das Haus unsers Gottes zu bauen, sondern wir wollen allein bauen dem HERRN, dem Gott Israels, wie uns Kores, der König in Persien, geboten hat.
4 Then the people of the land weakened the hands of the people of Judah, and harried them while they were building,
Da hinderte das Volk im Lande die Hand des Volks Juda und schreckten sie ab im Bauen.
5 and hired counsellors against them, to frustrate their purpose, all the days of Cyrus king of Persia, even until the reign of Darius king of Persia.
Und dingeten Ratgeber wider sie und verhinderten ihren Rat, solange Kores, der König in Persien, lebte, bis an das Königreich Darii, des Königs in Persien.
6 And in the reign of Ahasuerus, in the beginning of his reign, wrote they an accusation against the inhabitants of Judah and Jerusalem.
Denn da Ahasveros König ward, im Anfange seines Königreichs, schrieben sie eine Anklage wider die von Juda und Jerusalem.
7 And in the days of Artaxerxes wrote Bishlam, Mithredath, Tabeel, and the rest of his companions, unto Artaxerxes king of Persia; and the writing of the letter was written in the Aramaic character, and set forth in the Aramaic tongue.
Und zu den Zeiten Arthahsasthas schrieb Bislam, Mithredath, Tabeel und die andern ihres Rats zu Arthahsastha, dem Könige in Persien. Die Schrift aber des Briefes war auf syrisch geschrieben und ward auf syrisch ausgelegt.
8 Rehum the commander and Shimshai the scribe wrote a letter against Jerusalem to Artaxerxes the king in this sort —
Rehum, der Kanzler, und Simsai, der Schreiber, schrieben diesen Brief wider Jerusalem zu Arthahsastha, dem Könige:
9 then wrote Rehum the commander, and Shimshai the scribe, and the rest of their companions; the Dinites, and the Apharesattechites, the Tarpelites, the Apharesites, the Archevites, the Babylonians, the Shushanchites, the Dehites, the Elamites,
Wir, Rehum, der Kanzler, und Simsai, der Schreiber, und andere des Rats von Dina, von Apharsach, von Tarplat, von Persien, von Arach, von Babel, von Susan, von Deha und von Elam
10 and the rest of the nations whom the great and noble Asenappar brought over, and set in the city of Samaria, and the rest that are in the country beyond the River: — 'And now —
und die andern Völker, welche der große und berühmte Asnaphar herübergebracht und sie gesetzt hat in die Städte Samarias und andere diesseit des Wassers und in Kanaan.
11 this is the copy of the letter that they sent unto him, even unto Artaxerxes the king — thy servants the men beyond the River — and now
Und dies ist der Inhalt des Briefes, den sie zu dem Könige Arthahsastha sandten: Deine Knechte, die Männer diesseit des Wassers und in Kanaan.
12 be it known unto the king, that the Jews that came up from thee are come to us unto Jerusalem; they are building the rebellious and the bad city, and have finished the walls, and are digging out the foundations.
Es sei kund dem Könige, daß die Juden, die von dir zu uns heraufkommen sind gen Jerusalem, in die aufrührerische und böse Stadt, bauen dieselbige und machen ihre Mauern und führen sie aus dem Grunde.
13 Be it known now unto the king, that, if this city be builded, and the walls finished, they will not pay tribute, impost, or toll, and so thou wilt endamage the revenue of the kings.
So sei nun dem Könige kund, wo diese Stadt gebauet wird und die Mauern wieder gemacht, so werden sie Schoß, Zoll und jährliche Zinsen nicht geben, und ihr Vornehmen wird den Königen Schaden bringen.
14 Now because we eat the salt of the palace, and it is not meet for us to see the king's dishonour, therefore have we sent and announced to the king,
Nun wir aber alle dabei sind, die wir den Tempel zerstöret haben, haben wir die Schmach des Königs nicht länger wollen sehen; darum schicken wir hin und lassen's dem Könige zu wissen tun,
15 that search may be made in the book of the records of thy fathers; so shalt thou find in the book of the records, and know that this city is a rebellious city, and hurtful unto kings and provinces, and that they have moved sedition within the same of old time; for which cause was this city laid waste.
daß man lasse suchen in den Chroniken deiner Väter, so wirst du finden in denselbigen Chroniken und erfahren, daß diese Stadt aufrührerisch und schädlich ist den Königen und Landen, und machen, daß andere auch abfallen, von alters her, darum die Stadt auch zerstöret ist.
16 We announce to the king that, if this city be builded, and the walls finished, by this means thou shalt have no portion beyond the River.'
Darum tun wir dem Könige zu wissen, daß, wo diese Stadt gebauet wird und ihre Mauern gemacht, so wirst du von ihr nichts behalten diesseit des Wassers.
17 Then sent the king an answer unto Rehum the commander, and to Shimshai the scribe, and to the rest of their companions that dwell in Samaria, and unto the rest beyond the River: 'Peace, and now
Da sandte der König eine Antwort zu Rehum, dem Kanzler, und Simsai, dem Schreiber, und den andern ihres Rats, die in Samaria wohneten, und den andern jenseit des Wassers; Friede und Gruß!
18 the letter which ye sent unto us hath been plainly read before me.
Der Brief, den ihr uns zugeschickt habt, ist öffentlich vor mir gelesen.
19 And I decreed, and search hath been made, and it is found that this city of old time hath made insurrection against kings, and that rebellion and sedition have been made therein.
Und ist von mir befohlen, daß man suchen sollte. Und man hat funden, daß diese Stadt von alters her wider die Könige sich empöret hat, und Aufruhr und Abfall drinnen geschieht.
20 There have been mighty kings also over Jerusalem, who have ruled over all the country beyond the River; and tribute, impost, and toll, was paid unto them.
Auch sind mächtige Könige zu Jerusalem gewesen, die geherrschet haben über alles, das jenseit des Wassers ist, daß ihnen Zoll, Schoß und jährliche Zinsen gegeben worden.
21 Make ye now a decree to cause these men to cease, and that this city be not builded, until a decree shall be made by me.
So tut nun nach diesem Befehl: Wehret denselben Männern, daß die Stadt nicht gebauet werde, bis daß von mir der Befehl gegeben werde.
22 And take heed that ye be not slack herein; why should damage grow to the hurt of the kings?'
So sehet nun zu, daß ihr nicht hinlässig hierinnen seid; damit nicht Schaden entstehe dem Könige.
23 Then when the copy of king Artaxerxes' letter was read before Rehum, and Shimshai the scribe, and their companions, they went in haste to Jerusalem unto the Jews, and made them to cease by force and power.
Da nun der Brief des Königs Arthahsastha gelesen ward vor Rehum und Simsai, dem Schreiber, und ihrem Rat, zogen sie eilend hinauf gen Jerusalem zu den Juden und wehreten ihnen mit dem Arm und Gewalt.
24 Then ceased the work of the house of God which is at Jerusalem; and it ceased unto the second year of the reign of Darius king of Persia.
Da hörete auf das Werk am Hause Gottes zu Jerusalem und blieb nach bis ins andere Jahr Darii, des Königs in Persien.
