Ezekiel 14
1 Then came certain of the elders of Israel unto me, and sat before me.
Et des hommes d'entre les Anciens d'Israël vinrent auprès de moi et s'assirent devant moi.
2 And the word of the LORD came unto me, saying:
Alors la parole de l'Éternel me fut adressée en ces mots:
3 'Son of man, these men have set up their idols in their mind, and put the stumblingblock of their iniquity before their face; should I be inquired of at all by them?
Fils de l'homme, ces gens-là se sont affectionnés à leurs idoles, et mettent devant leurs yeux ce qui les pousse au crime; leur donnerais-je accès auprès de moi?
4 Therefore speak unto them, and say unto them: Thus saith the Lord GOD: Every man of the house of Israel that setteth up his idols in his mind, and putteth the stumblingblock of his iniquity before his face, and cometh to the prophet — I the LORD will answer him that cometh according to the multitude of his idols;
Aussi parle et dis-leur: Ainsi parle le Seigneur, l'Éternel: Si quelqu'un des hommes de la maison d'Israël, qui s'est affectionné à ses idoles, et met devant ses yeux ce qui le pousse au crime, vient néanmoins trouver un prophète, moi qui suis l'Éternel, je lui ferai sur cela une réponse conforme au grand nombre de ses idoles,
5 that I may take the house of Israel in their own heart, because they are all turned away from Me through their idols.
de manière à prendre sur le fait dans son propre cœur la maison d'Israël que toutes ses idoles ont détachée de moi.
6 Therefore say unto the house of Israel: Thus saith the Lord GOD: Return ye, and turn yourselves from your idols; and turn away your faces from all your abominations.
Aussi dis à la maison d'Israël: Ainsi parle le Seigneur, l'Éternel: Revenez et détournez-vous de vos idoles, et de toutes vos abominations détournez vos regards.
7 For every one of the house of Israel, or of the strangers that sojourn in Israel, that separateth himself from Me, and taketh his idols into his heart, and putteth the stumblingblock of his iniquity before his face, and cometh to the prophet, that he inquire for him of Me — I the LORD will answer him by Myself,
Car à tout homme de la maison d'Israël, et à tout étranger domicilié en Israël, qui s'est éloigné de moi, et affectionné à ses idoles, et qui met devant ses yeux ce qui le pousse au crime, s'il vient trouver un prophète pour me consulter par lui, moi, l'Éternel, je lui ferai une réponse digne de moi.
8 and I will set My face against that man, and will make him a sign and a proverb, and I will cut him off from the midst of My people; and ye shall know that I am the LORD.
Et je tournerai ma face contre cet homme-là, pour le perdre et faire de lui un signe et un proverbe, et je l'extirperai du milieu de mon peuple, afin que vous sachiez que je suis l'Éternel.
9 And when the prophet is enticed and speaketh a word, I the LORD have enticed that prophet, and I will stretch out My hand upon him, and will destroy him from the midst of My people Israel.
Que si un prophète se laisse entraîner à parler, c'est moi l'Éternel qui laisserai entraîner ce prophète, et je lèverai ma main sur lui, et l'exterminerai du milieu de mon peuple d'Israël.
10 And they shall bear their iniquity; the iniquity of the prophet shall be even as the iniquity of him that inquireth;
C'est ainsi qu'ils porteront la peine de leur crime; la peine de celui qui consulte sera la même que la peine du prophète,
11 that the house of Israel may go no more astray from Me, neither defile themselves any more with all their transgressions; but that they may be My people, and I may be their God, saith the Lord GOD.'
afin que la maison d'Israël ne s'éloigne plus de moi, et ne se souille plus désormais par tous ses crimes, mais qu'ils soient mon peuple et que je sois leur Dieu, dit le Seigneur, l'Éternel.
12 And the word of the LORD came unto me, saying:
Et la parole de l'Éternel me fut adressée en ces mots:
13 'Son of man, when a land sinneth against Me by trespassing grievously, and I stretch out My hand upon it, and break the staff of the bread thereof, and send famine upon it, and cut off from it man and beast;
Fils de l'homme, si un pays péchait contre moi et se rendait coupable, et que, portant la main sur lui, je lui ôtasse le pain qui sustente, lui envoyant encore la famine, et en exterminant les hommes et les bêtes,
14 though these three men, Noah, Daniel, and Job, were in it, they should deliver but their own souls by their righteousness, saith the Lord GOD.
et qu'il y eût dans son sein ces trois hommes, Noé, Daniel et Job; ces hommes par leur justice sauveraient leurs âmes, dit le Seigneur, l'Éternel.
15 If I cause evil beasts to pass through the land, and they bereave it, and it be desolate, so that no man may pass through because of the beasts;
Si je faisais parcourir le pays par des animaux féroces qui le dépeupleraient et en feraient un désert où personne ne passerait plus à cause de ces animaux,
16 though these three men were in it, as I live, saith the Lord GOD, they shall deliver neither sons nor daughters; they only shall be delivered, but the land shall be desolate.
par ma vie, dit le Seigneur, l'Éternel, ces trois hommes qui s'y trouveraient, ne sauveraient ni fils, ni filles; eux seuls seraient sauvés; mais le pays serait dévasté.
17 Or if I bring a sword upon that land, and say: Let the sword go through the land, so that I cut off from it man and beast;
Ou bien si je faisais envahir ce pays-là par l'épée, et que je disse: Que l'épée parcoure le pays et y frappe les hommes et les bêtes!
18 though these three men were in it, as I live, saith the Lord GOD, they shall deliver neither sons nor daughters, but they only shall be delivered themselves.
par ma vie, dit le Seigneur, l'Éternel, ces trois hommes qui s'y trouveraient, ne sauveraient ni fils, ni filles, mais eux seuls seraient sauvés.
19 Or if I send a pestilence into that land, and pour out My fury upon it in blood, to cut off from it man and beast;
Ou bien si j'envoyais la peste dans ce pays-là, et que je versasse sur lui ma colère en faisant couler le sang, pour y exterminer les hommes et les bêtes,
20 though Noah, Daniel, and Job, were in it, as I live, saith the Lord GOD, they shall deliver neither son nor daughter; they shall but deliver their own souls by their righteousness.
et que Noé, Daniel et Job fussent dans son sein, par ma vie, dit le Seigneur, l'Éternel, ils ne sauveraient ni fils, ni fille, mais eux par leur justice ils sauveraient leurs âmes.
21 For thus saith the Lord GOD: How much more when I send My four sore judgments against Jerusalem, the sword, and the famine, and the evil beasts, and the pestilence, to cut off from it man and beast.
Cependant, ainsi parle le Seigneur, l'Éternel: Quand même j'envoie contre Jérusalem mes quatre châtiments désastreux, l'épée, et la famine, et les animaux féroces, et la peste, pour en exterminer les hommes et les bêtes,
22 And, behold, though there be left a remnant therein that shall be brought forth, both sons and daughters; behold, when they come forth unto you, and ye see their way and their doings, then ye shall be comforted concerning the evil that I have brought upon Jerusalem, even concerning all that I have brought upon it;
cependant il restera des gens qui échapperont, et seront tirés de là, des fils et des filles. Voici, ils se rendront auprès de vous, et à la vue de leur conduite et de leurs forfaits, vous vous consolerez des maux que j'aurai fait tomber sur Jérusalem, de tout ce que je vais faire tomber sur elle.
23 and they shall comfort you, when ye see their way and their doings, and ye shall know that I have not done without cause all that I have done in it, saith the Lord GOD.'
Et ils vous consoleront, quand vous connaîtrez leur conduite et leurs forfaits, et vous comprendrez que ce n'est pas à tort que je lui aurai fait tout ce que je vais lui faire, dit le Seigneur, l'Éternel.
