Exodus 5
1 And afterward Moses and Aaron came, and said unto Pharaoh: 'Thus saith the LORD, the God of Israel: Let My people go, that they may hold a feast unto Me in the wilderness.'
അതിനുശേഷം മോശയും അഹരോനും ഫറവോന്റെ അടുക്കൽ ചെന്ന്, “എന്റെ ജനം മരുഭൂമിയിൽ എനിക്കൊരു ഉത്സവം ആചരിക്കേണ്ടതിന് അവരെ വിട്ടയയ്ക്കുക എന്ന് ഇസ്രായേലിന്റെ ദൈവമായ യഹോവ അരുളിച്ചെയ്യുന്നു” എന്നു പറഞ്ഞു.
2 And Pharaoh said: 'Who is the LORD, that I should hearken unto His voice to let Israel go? I know not the LORD, and moreover I will not let Israel go.'
അതിനു ഫറവോൻ, “ഞാൻ യഹോവയെ അനുസരിക്കേണ്ടതിനും ഇസ്രായേലിനെ വിട്ടയയ്ക്കേണ്ടതിനും അവൻ ആര്? യഹോവയെ ഞാൻ അറിയുന്നില്ല, ഇസ്രായേലിനെ ഞാൻ വിട്ടയയ്ക്കുകയുമില്ല” എന്നു പറഞ്ഞു.
3 And they said: 'The God of the Hebrews hath met with us. Let us go, we pray thee, three days' journey into the wilderness, and sacrifice unto the LORD our God; lest He fall upon us with pestilence, or with the sword.'
അപ്പോൾ അവർ, “എബ്രായരുടെ ദൈവം ഞങ്ങൾക്കു പ്രത്യക്ഷനായിരിക്കുന്നു. ഇപ്പോൾ മരുഭൂമിയിൽ മൂന്നുദിവസത്തെ ദൂരം യാത്രചെയ്തു ഞങ്ങളുടെ ദൈവമായ യഹോവയ്ക്കു യാഗം കഴിക്കാൻ ഞങ്ങളെ അനുവദിക്കണം; അല്ലെങ്കിൽ അവിടന്നു മഹാമാരിയാലോ വാളിനാലോ ഞങ്ങളെ പീഡിപ്പിച്ചേക്കാം” എന്നു പറഞ്ഞു.
4 And the king of Egypt said unto them: 'Wherefore do ye, Moses and Aaron, cause the people to break loose from their work? get you unto your burdens.'
എന്നാൽ ഈജിപ്റ്റുരാജാവ്, “മോശയേ, അഹരോനേ, നിങ്ങൾ ജനങ്ങളെ അവരുടെ വേലയിൽ തടസ്സപ്പെടുത്തുന്നത് എന്തിന്? നിങ്ങളുടെ ജോലിയിലേക്കു മടങ്ങിപ്പോകുക!” എന്നു കൽപ്പിച്ചു.
5 And Pharaoh said: 'Behold, the people of the land are now many, and will ye make them rest from their burdens?'
ഫറവോൻ വീണ്ടും പറഞ്ഞു: “ഇതാ, ഈ ദേശത്തു ജനങ്ങൾ അസംഖ്യമായിരിക്കുന്നു, പണിയെടുക്കുന്നതിൽനിന്ന് നിങ്ങൾ അവരെ തടസ്സപ്പെടുത്തുകയാണ്.”
6 And the same day Pharaoh commanded the taskmasters of the people, and their officers, saying:
ഫറവോൻ അന്നുതന്നെ ജനത്തിന്റെമേൽ ആക്കിവെച്ചിരിക്കുന്ന അടിമകളുടെ മേൽനോട്ടക്കാർക്കും അവർക്കുമീതേയുള്ള അധികാരികൾക്കും ഇപ്രകാരം കൽപ്പനകൊടുത്തു:
7 'Ye shall no more give the people straw to make brick, as heretofore. Let them go and gather straw for themselves.
“നിങ്ങൾ ഇനിമുതൽ ജനങ്ങൾക്ക് ഇഷ്ടികയുണ്ടാക്കാൻ വൈക്കോൽ കൊടുക്കരുത്; അവർതന്നെ പോയി ആവശ്യമുള്ള വൈക്കോൽ ശേഖരിക്കട്ടെ.
8 And the tale of the bricks, which they did make heretofore, ye shall lay upon them; ye shall not diminish aught thereof; for they are idle; therefore they cry, saying: Let us go and sacrifice to our God.
എന്നാൽ നേരത്തേ ഉണ്ടായിരുന്നത്രയും ഇഷ്ടിക ഉണ്ടാക്കാൻ അവരോട് ആവശ്യപ്പെടണം; എണ്ണം കുറയ്ക്കരുത്. അവർ അലസന്മാരാണ്, അതുകൊണ്ടാകുന്നു ‘ഞങ്ങൾ പോയി ഞങ്ങളുടെ ദൈവത്തിനു യാഗം കഴിക്കട്ടെ’ എന്ന് അവർ മുറവിളി കൂട്ടുന്നത്.
9 Let heavier work be laid upon the men, that they may labour therein; and let them not regard lying words.'
അവർക്കു ജോലി കുറെക്കൂടി കഠിനമാക്കിക്കൊടുക്കണം, അങ്ങനെ അവർ വ്യാജവാക്കുകളിൽ ശ്രദ്ധിക്കാതെ പണിയെടുത്തുകൊണ്ടേയിരിക്കട്ടെ.”
10 And the taskmasters of the people went out, and their officers, and they spoke to the people, saying: 'Thus saith Pharaoh: I will not give you straw.
അടിമകളുടെ മേൽനോട്ടക്കാരും അവർക്കുമീതേയുള്ള അധികാരികളും ചെന്നു ജനത്തോടു പറഞ്ഞു: “ഫറവോൻ ഇങ്ങനെ കൽപ്പിക്കുന്നു, ‘ഞാൻ നിങ്ങൾക്ക് ഇനിമുതൽ വൈക്കോൽ തരികയില്ല.
11 Go yourselves, get you straw where ye can find it; for nought of your work shall be diminished.'
കിട്ടുന്നേടത്തുനിന്ന് നിങ്ങൾതന്നെ വൈക്കോൽ ശേഖരിക്കണം, എങ്കിലും നിങ്ങളുടെ വേലയിൽ ഒരു കുറവും അനുവദിക്കുകയില്ല.’”
12 So the people were scattered abroad throughout all the land of Egypt to gather stubble for straw.
അതുകൊണ്ടു ജനങ്ങൾ വൈക്കോലിനു പകരം വൈക്കോൽക്കുറ്റി ശേഖരിക്കാൻ ഈജിപ്റ്റിൽ എല്ലായിടങ്ങളിലും ചിതറിപ്പോയി.
13 And the taskmasters were urgent, saying: 'Fulfil your work, your daily task, as when there was straw.'
അടിമകളുടെ മേൽനോട്ടക്കാർ അവരോട്, “ദിവസംതോറുമുള്ള വേല, വൈക്കോലുണ്ടായിരുന്നപ്പോൾ ചെയ്തതുപോലെതന്നെ നിങ്ങൾ ചെയ്തുതീർക്കണം” എന്നു കർശനമായി പറഞ്ഞു.
14 And the officers of the children of Israel, whom Pharaoh's taskmasters had set over them, were beaten, saying: 'Wherefore have ye not fulfilled your appointed task in making brick both yesterday and today as heretofore?'
ഫറവോന്റെ അടിമകളുടെ മേൽനോട്ടക്കാർ നിയമിച്ച ഇസ്രായേല്യരായ മേലുദ്യോഗസ്ഥന്മാരോട്, “നിങ്ങൾ മുമ്പേ ചെയ്തിരുന്നതുപോലെ ഇന്നലെയും ഇന്നും ഇഷ്ടികയുടെ അളവു തികയ്ക്കാത്തതെന്ത്?” എന്നു ചോദിച്ചുകൊണ്ട് അവരെ അടിച്ചു.
15 Then the officers of the children of Israel came and cried unto Pharaoh, saying: 'Wherefore dealest thou thus with thy servants?
ഇസ്രായേല്യരായ മേലുദ്യോഗസ്ഥന്മാർ ഫറവോന്റെ അടുക്കൽ ചെന്ന് അദ്ദേഹത്തോടു സങ്കടമുണർത്തിച്ചു: “അടിയങ്ങളോട് ഇങ്ങനെ ചെയ്യുന്നതെന്ത്?
16 There is no straw given unto thy servants, and they say to us: Make brick; and, behold, thy servants are beaten, but the fault is in thine own people.'
അടിയങ്ങൾക്കു വൈക്കോൽ തരുന്നതേയില്ല, എന്നിട്ടും ‘ഇഷ്ടിക ഉണ്ടാക്കുക!’ എന്നു പറയുന്നു. ഇതാ, അടിയങ്ങളെ അടിക്കുകയും ചെയ്യുന്നു, അവിടത്തെ ജനമാണ് ഇതിൽ തെറ്റുകാർ.”
17 But he said: 'Ye are idle, ye are idle; therefore ye say: Let us go and sacrifice to the LORD.
അതിനു ഫറവോൻ, “നിങ്ങൾ മടിയന്മാർ, അലസന്മാർ! അതുകൊണ്ടാണ്, ‘ഞങ്ങൾ പോയി യഹോവയ്ക്കു യാഗം കഴിക്കട്ടെ’ എന്നു നിങ്ങൾ എപ്പോഴും പറയുന്നത്.
18 Go therefore now, and work; for there shall no straw be given you, yet shall ye deliver the tale of bricks.'
പോയി ജോലി ചെയ്യുക. വൈക്കോൽ നിങ്ങൾക്കു തരികയേയില്ല, എന്നാലും ഇഷ്ടികയുടെ എണ്ണം കുറയുകയുമരുത്” എന്നു പറഞ്ഞു.
19 And the officers of the children of Israel did see that they were set on mischief, when they said: 'Ye shall not diminish aught from your bricks, your daily task.'
“നിങ്ങൾ ഓരോ ദിവസവും ഉണ്ടാക്കേണ്ട ഇഷ്ടികയുടെ എണ്ണം കുറയ്ക്കരുത്,” എന്ന് ഇസ്രായേല്യരായ മേലുദ്യോഗസ്ഥന്മാരോടു കൽപ്പിച്ചപ്പോൾത്തന്നെ തങ്ങൾ പ്രയാസത്തിൽ അകപ്പെട്ടിരിക്കുന്നു എന്ന് അവർ മനസ്സിലാക്കി.
20 And they met Moses and Aaron, who stood in the way, as they came forth from Pharaoh;
അവർ ഫറവോന്റെ അടുക്കൽനിന്ന് മടങ്ങുമ്പോൾ തങ്ങൾക്കായി കാത്തുനിന്നിരുന്ന മോശയെയും അഹരോനെയും കണ്ടു.
21 and they said unto them: 'The LORD look upon you, and judge; because ye have made our savour to be abhorred in the eyes of Pharaoh, and in the eyes of his servants, to put a sword in their hand to slay us.'
“യഹോവ നിങ്ങളെ കാണുകയും ന്യായംവിധിക്കുകയും ചെയ്യട്ടെ! നിങ്ങൾ ഫറവോന്റെയും അദ്ദേഹത്തിന്റെ വേലക്കാരുടെയും മുമ്പിൽ ഞങ്ങളെ നാറ്റിക്കുകയും ഞങ്ങളെ കൊല്ലുന്നതിന് അവരുടെ കൈയിൽ വാൾ കൊടുക്കുകയും ചെയ്തിരിക്കുകയാണ്,” എന്ന് അവർ പറഞ്ഞു.
22 And Moses returned unto the LORD, and said: 'Lord, wherefore hast Thou dealt ill with this people? why is it that Thou hast sent me?
അപ്പോൾ മോശ മടങ്ങിച്ചെന്ന് യഹോവയോട്, “കർത്താവേ, അവിടന്ന് ഈ ജനത്തെ കഷ്ടതയിൽ ആക്കിയതെന്ത്? ഇതിനായിട്ടാണോ അങ്ങ് എന്നെ അയച്ചത്?
23 For since I came to Pharaoh to speak in Thy name, he hath dealt ill with this people; neither hast Thou delivered Thy people at all.'
അവിടത്തെ നാമത്തിൽ ഫറവോനോടു സംസാരിക്കാൻ ചെന്നതുമുതൽ അദ്ദേഹം ഈ ജനത്തിന്റെമേൽ കഷ്ടത വരുത്തിയിരിക്കുകയാണ്, അങ്ങ് അവിടത്തെ ജനത്തെ വിടുവിച്ചതുമില്ല” എന്നു പറഞ്ഞു.
