Ecclesiastes 9
1 For all this I laid to my heart, even to make clear all this: that the righteous, and the wise, and their works, are in the hand of God; whether it be love or hatred, man knoweth it not; all is before them.
All dies hab ich bedacht, all dies studiert genau. Die Frommen und die Weisen und ihre Werke sind in Gottes Hand. Ob liebens- oder hassenswert, das weiß deshalb kein Mensch. All das geht über ihr Begreifen. -
2 All things come alike to all; there is one event to the righteous and to the wicked; to the good and to the clean and to the unclean; to him that sacrificeth and to him that sacrificeth not; as is the good, so is the sinner, and he that sweareth, as he that feareth an oath.
Denn ein Geschick kommt allen zu, den Frommen wie den Frevlern, den Guten, Reinen wie den Unreinen, dem Opfernden wie dem, der gar nicht opfert, dem Guten wie dem Sünder, dem Schwörenden wie dem, der vor dem Eid sich scheut.
3 This is an evil in all that is done under the sun, that there is one event unto all; yea also, the heart of the sons of men is full of evil, and madness is in their heart while they live, and after that they go to the dead.
Das ist das Schlimmste doch von allem, was unter dieser Sonne sich vollzieht, daß allen ein Geschick beschieden, ist doch das Herz der Menschenkinder voller Leid, und Sorge ist in ihrem Herzen lebenslang, und nachher geht es zu den Toten!
4 For to him that is joined to all the living there is hope; for a living dog is better than a dead lion.
Wo einer zu Lebendigen sich zählen kann, da ist noch Hoffnung. Denn selbst ein Hund ist besser dran, wenn er lebendig, als ein toter Löwe.
5 For the living know that they shall die; but the dead know not any thing, neither have they any more a reward; for the memory of them is forgotten.
Das eine wissen doch, die leben, daß einmal sie auch sterben müssen; die Toten aber wissen gar nichts mehr. Sie werden auch nicht mehr mit Lohn bedacht: denn ihr Gedächtnis ist vergessen.
6 As well their love, as their hatred and their envy, is long ago perished; neither have they any more a portion for ever in any thing that is done under the sun.
Ihr Lieben und ihr Hassen, ihr Neiden ist schon längst dahin. Sie haben keinen Teil in Ewigkeit an irgendeinem Werk, das unter dieser Sonne sich vollzieht. -
7 Go thy way, eat thy bread with joy, and drink thy wine with a merry heart; for God hath already accepted thy works.
Auf! Iß dein Brot mit Freude, trink heitern Sinnes deinen Wein, wenn schon die Gottheit Wohlgefallen hat an deinen Werken!
8 Let thy garments be always white; and let thy head lack no oil.
Stets seien deine Kleider weiß! Und deinem Haupte mangle nicht das Öl!
9 Enjoy life with the wife whom thou lovest all the days of the life of thy vanity, which He hath given thee under the sun, all the days of thy vanity; for that is thy portion in life, and in thy labour wherein thou labourest under the sun.
Genieß das Leben mit dem Weibe, das du liebgewonnen, all deine eitlen Lebenstage, die er dir unter dieser Sonne gibt! Denn dies ist ja dein Teil am Leben in allen deinen eitlen Lebenstagen, sowie an deiner Mühe, die unter dieser Sonne du dir machst.
10 Whatsoever thy hand attaineth to do by thy strength, that do; for there is no work, nor device, nor knowledge, nor wisdom, in the grave, whither thou goest. (Sheol h7585)
Was du dir leisten kannst mit deiner Kraft, vollbringe! Denn weder Schaffen, noch Berechnen, nicht Wissen und nicht Weisheit gibt es in der Unterwelt, wohin du gehst. (Sheol h7585)
11 I returned, and saw under the sun, that the race is not to the swift, nor the battle to the strong, neither yet bread to the wise, nor yet riches to men of understanding, nor yet favour to men of skill; but time and chance happeneth to them all.
Und wieder sah ich unter dieser Sonne: Den Lauf gewinnen nicht die Schnellen und nicht den Krieg die Helden und nicht die Weisen Brot und nicht die Klugen Reichtum und nicht die Künstler Dank. Auf Zeit und Glück kommt es bei ihnen allen an.
12 For man also knoweth not his time; as the fishes that are taken in an evil net, and as the birds that are caught in the snare, even so are the sons of men snared in an evil time, when it falleth suddenly upon them.
Der Mensch kennt nimmer seine Zeit; wie Fische sich im Unglücksnetze fangen, wie Vögel in der Schlinge festgehalten werden, so werden auch die Menschenkinder all verstrickt zur Unglückszeit, die plötzlich sie befällt.
13 This also have I seen as wisdom under the sun, and it seemed great unto me:
Auch dies sah ich als Weisheit unter dieser Sonne, und als bedeutungsvoll erschien es mir:
14 there was a little city, and few men within it; and there came a great king against it, and besieged it, and built great bulwarks against it;
Da gab es eine kleine Stadt und wenig Männer drin. Ein großer König zog vor sie und schloß sie ein und baute große Türme wider sie.
15 now there was found in it a man poor and wise, and he by his wisdom delivered the city; yet no man remembered that same poor man.
Nun traf er einen armen, aber klugen Mann darin, und dieser rettete die Stadt durch seine Klugheit. Kein Mensch gedachte aber später mehr des armen Mannes.
16 Then said I: 'Wisdom is better than strength; nevertheless the poor man's wisdom is despised, and his words are not heard.'
Da sagte ich: "Die Klugheit ist weit besser als die Stärke; doch eines Armen Klugheit wird verkannt, und seine Worte werden nicht gehört." -
17 The words of the wise spoken in quiet are more acceptable than the cry of a ruler among fools.
Der Weisen Worte, ruhig ausgesprochen, finden mehr Beachtung als des Narrenkönigs Brüllen.
18 Wisdom is better than weapons of war; but one sinner destroyeth much good.
Viel besser Klugheit als des Krieges Waffen! Ein einziger, der Fehler macht, kann vieles Gute selbst verderben.
