Ecclesiastes 2
1 I said in my heart: 'Come now, I will try thee with mirth, and enjoy pleasure'; and, behold, this also was vanity.
Dije en mi corazón: Te daré alegría por una prueba; así que toma tu placer, pero fue sin ningún propósito.
2 I said of laughter: 'It is mad'; and of mirth: 'What doth it accomplish?'
De risa dije: Es insensato; y de alegría - ¿De qué sirve?
3 I searched in my heart how to pamper my flesh with wine, and, my heart conducting itself with wisdom, how yet to lay hold on folly, till I might see which it was best for the sons of men that they should do under the heaven the few days of their life.
Hice una búsqueda con mi corazón para dar placer a mi carne con vino, todavía guiando mi corazón con sabiduría, y perseguir cosas tontas, para poder ver lo que era bueno para los hijos de los hombres hacer bajo Los cielos todos los días de su vida.
4 I made me great works; I builded me houses; I planted me vineyards;
Realicé grandes obras, construyéndome casas y plantando viñas.
5 I made me gardens and parks, and I planted trees in them of all kinds of fruit;
Me hice jardines y huertos, plantando en ellos árboles frutales de todo tipo.
6 I made me pools of water, to water therefrom the wood springing up with trees;
Hice estanques para regar los bosques donde crecían los árboles.
7 I acquired men-servants and maid-servants, and had servants born in my house; also I had great possessions of herds and flocks, above all that were before me in Jerusalem;
Compré siervos y sirvientas, y dieron a luz hijos e hijas en mi casa. Tenía una gran riqueza de rebaños y manadas, más que todos los que estaban en Jerusalén antes que yo.
8 I gathered me also silver and gold, and treasure such as kings and the provinces have as their own; I got me men-singers and women-singers, and the delights of the sons of men, women very many.
Reuní plata y oro y la riqueza de los reyes y de los países. Me hice de creadores de canto, cantores y cantoras; y las delicias de los hijos de los hombres, y concubinas.
9 So I was great, and increased more than all that were before me in Jerusalem; also my wisdom stood me in stead.
Y me engrandecí; aumentando más que todos los que habían estado antes que yo en Jerusalén, y mi sabiduría todavía estaba conmigo.
10 And whatsoever mine eyes desired I kept not from them; I withheld not my heart from any joy, for my heart had joy of all my labour; and this was my portion from all my labour.
Y nada de lo que mis ojos deseaban les negué; No guardé ninguna alegría de mi corazón, porque mi corazón se complació en todo mi trabajo, y esta fue mi recompensa.
11 Then I looked on all the works that my hands had wrought, and on the labour that I had laboured to do; and, behold, all was vanity and a striving after wind, and there was no profit under the sun.
Entonces vi todas las obras que mis manos habían hecho, y todo aquello por lo que había estado trabajando; y vi que todo era inútil y aflicción de espíritu, y que no había ganancia bajo el sol.
12 And I turned myself to behold wisdom, and madness and folly; for what can the man do that cometh after the king? even that which hath been already done.
Volví a buscar sabiduría y caminos necios. ¿Qué puede hacer el hombre que viene después del rey? Lo que él ha hecho antes.
13 Then I saw that wisdom excelleth folly, as far as light excelleth darkness.
Entonces vi que la sabiduría es mejor que la insensatez, y que la luz es mejor que la oscuridad.
14 The wise man, his eyes are in his head; but the fool walketh in darkness. And I also perceived that one event happeneth to them all.
Los ojos del sabio están en su cabeza, pero el necio va caminando en la oscuridad; Pero aun así vi que el mismo suceso les llega a todos.
15 Then said I in my heart: 'As it happeneth to the fool, so will it happen even to me; and why was I then more wise?' Then I said in my heart, that this also is vanity.
Entonces dije en mi corazón: En lo que se refiere al hombre necio, así vendrá a mí; así que ¿para qué he sido demasiado sabio? Entonces dije en mi corazón: Esto de nuevo no tiene ningún propósito.
16 For of the wise man, even as of the fool, there is no remembrance for ever; seeing that in the days to come all will long ago have been forgotten. And how must the wise man die even as the fool!
Del sabio, como del necio, no hay memoria para siempre, ya que aquellos que ahora son habrán desaparecido de la memoria en los próximos días. ¡Mira cómo la muerte llega a los sabios como a los necios!
17 So I hated life; because the work that is wrought under the sun was grievous unto me; for all is vanity and a striving after wind.
Entonces odiaba la vida, porque todo lo que estaba debajo del sol era malo para mí, no tiene ningún propósito y todo es aflicción de espíritu.
18 And I hated all my labour wherein I laboured under the sun, seeing that I must leave it unto the man that shall be after me.
Yo odiaba todo el fruto de mi trabajo que había hecho, porque lo dejaré al hombre que viene después de mí.
19 And who knoweth whether he will be a wise man or a fool? yet will he have rule over all my labour wherein I have laboured, and wherein I have shown myself wise under the sun. This also is vanity.
¿Y quién puede decir si ese hombre será sabio o insensato? Pero tendrá poder sobre todo el trabajo que he hecho y en el que he sido sabio bajo el sol. Esto de nuevo no tiene ningún propósito.
20 Therefore I turned about to cause my heart to despair concerning all the labour wherein I had laboured under the sun.
Así que mi mente se convirtió en dolor por todos los problemas que había tomado y toda mi sabiduría bajo el sol.
21 For there is a man whose labour is with wisdom, and with knowledge, and with skill; yet to a man that hath not laboured therein shall he leave it for his portion. This also is vanity and a great evil.
Porque hay un hombre cuyo trabajo ha sido hecho con sabiduría, con conocimiento y con mano experta; pero uno que no ha hecho nada por él, lo tendrá por su herencia. Esto de nuevo no tiene ningún propósito y es un gran mal.
22 For what hath a man of all his labour, and of the striving of his heart, wherein he laboureth under the sun?
¿Qué obtiene un hombre por todo su trabajo y por el peso del cuidado con el que ha hecho su trabajo bajo el sol?
23 For all his days are pains, and his occupation vexation; yea, even in the night his heart taketh not rest. This also is vanity.
Todos sus días son dolor, y su obra está llena de dolor. Incluso en la noche su corazón no tiene descanso. Esto de nuevo no tiene ningún propósito.
24 There is nothing better for a man than that he should eat and drink, and make his soul enjoy pleasure for his labour. This also I saw, that it is from the hand of God.
No hay nada mejor para un hombre que comer y beber, y deleitarse en su trabajo. Esto que nuevamente vi fue de la mano de Dios.
25 For who will eat, or who will enjoy, if not I?
¿Quién puede comer o tener placer sin él?
26 For to the man that is good in His sight He giveth wisdom, and knowledge, and joy; but to the sinner He giveth the task, to gather and to heap up, that he may leave to him that is good in the sight of God. This also is vanity and a striving after wind.
Al hombre con quien se complace, Dios le da sabiduría, conocimiento y gozo; pero al pecador le da el trabajo de juntar bienes y acumular riquezas, para dar a aquel en quien Dios tiene placer. Esto de nuevo no tiene ningún propósito y es aflicción de espíritu.
